About Linda and Keith Scowcroft
Chinley Moor House has been part of our family for a long time. Linda was born and grew up here, and we bought the house from Linda's parents after the birth of our first son, to bring up our own family in. Our two sons are now grown up and, since our retirement, we've turned our attention to making our home pay its way! We live here with our dog, Danny, and enjoy regular visits from our young grandson.
Linda and Keith Scowcroft purchased this Barn in 1950

I had a fabulous time at the Chicken Barn. So peaceful and relaxing. A beautiful home and a real hidden gem. Highly recommended. I’ll be back ASAP!

It was a pleasure to have you to stay.
Gorgeous and deceptively spacious
This fabulous property was such a pleasant surprise. We wanted a quiet and secluded break with all home comforts and essentially somewhere snuggly and warm and we got all of this plus really homely - and very generous - touches too.
Thank you for taking the time to leave us such a super review.
Relaxing stay in the heart of the Peak District
We booked a short break with our dog in this charming former chicken barn. The barn is warm, welcoming and comfortable and Linda and Keith are fabulous hosts! So many wonderful touches (such as milk, tea and coffee are there when you arrive) and Linda even baked us some cake, which was very welcome after a day exploring the area. Ideally situated for kinder pass/mam tor and if you have a dog Linda can recommend some wonderful local pubs. I heartily recommend this place.
Charming, cozy and immaculate
Needed a break away from the stress of working in a city, the Chicken Barn was exactly what I had envisioned for this. Linda was an extremely welcoming host, she had thought of everything and left supplies in there to get me started including a bottle of wine. Some gorgeous walks and views straight from the lane outside the barn so didn’t need to drive during my stay although there is a useful visitor guide in the barn with loads of info on day trips if you did fancy venturing out further afield. The barn itself is warm and cozy a double bed and a bunk bed on the ground floor, lovely wet room with underfloor heating. A beautiful iron staircase leads up to the living area which has a sofa, a dining area and kitchen equipped with everything you need to cook for yourself during your stay if you are not eating out. The decor is beautiful, exposed beams and delightful light fittings made out of Kilner jars. I was travelling alone but imagine this would make for an extremely romantic setting for couples. I have stayed in a lot of cottages in my years but I think this one is by far my favourite yet! It was rather chilly outside during my stay but if you are visiting in spring/summer there is a lovely seating area at the back of the Chicken Barn with a bbq. With very little light pollution the stars at night were beautiful and made me wish I had brought a telescope for a spot of star gazing! Overall a wonderful and relaxing break and one I wish I had not had to come home from. Thank you Linda and Keith for letting me stay in your little slice of heaven xx
