About this property

Cotton Lake Cabin - Breathtaking Views of Squam Lake and Mountain Range

Come enjoy the breathtaking views in this uniquely peaceful and secluded hill-top cabin overlooking Squam Lake at the end of a dirt road with absolutely no neighbors in sight! A hiker paradise, you can start your hikes directly at your personal trail head behind the Cabin from where marked trails allow you to connect to the Squam Range trail system. Hike Mt Fayal, Cotton Mountain, Livermore Mountain, or the entire Squam Range all the way to Double Head Mountain (recognized as one of the best hiking area in NH)- enjoy hiking at its best starting directly from the cabin with no need for a car or finding a parking spot at the trail head!

The lake is a short walk downhill from the cabin. From the cabin you will have easy access to a multitude of activities around the lake:
- Ashland Beach on Little Squam (7-min drive); nice swimming area with picnic tables. For more information about Ashland Beach, check: https://www.theswimguide.org/beach/7620
- Boat ramp and marina (3-min drive, bring or rent a boat, we have plenty of storage space if you bring yours)
- Endless activities, hiking, boating, fishing, snowshoeing, etc
- The White Mts & ski resorts (~25min drive)

The space
Cotton Lake Cabin will offer you and your loved ones a unique retreat from your busy life and a truly authentic experience of the beautiful nature found in New Hampshire. Cotton lake offers a main cabin (~1900 sq. ft.) with three bedrooms that can sleep 6 and a separate 2-story cottage (Casita ~700 sq. ft., please inquire if you are interested; the Casita can sleep up to 4 more people). Additional cost for renting the casita is $79/night/person with a 2 person renting minimum- included in pricing as "Additional guests fee" beyond the 6 people staying in the main cabin. New in 2022, both the main cabin and Casita have been equipped with minisplit Air Conditioning systems.

Many cozy rooms await. The home offers several quaint rooms where New York Times best selling author Jack B. Rochester penned many of his books. Regarding suitability of the cabin for families/children, we welcome families with children. However, please be aware that no specific arrangements have been made to make the cabin "child-safe" and that it is the guest responsibility to ensure safety of children at the property.

Overlooking Squam Lake, New Hampshire's most beautiful lake, Cotton Lake Cabin borders the upper trail system of the Squam Lakes Natural Science Center and Squam Range trail system with a variety of hiking trails directly accessible from behind the cabin or a few minutes drive away. Bring your boat and use the Holderness Squam Lake Public Boat Launch which is a 4 min drive away from the cabin. Want to go for a swim? The Ashland Beach on Little Squam is located less than 3 miles from the cabin.

Among many activities in the area, you will find:
- paddling, boating, sailing, kayaking, swimming while enjoying beautiful and preserved nature on peaceful Squam Lake
- endless hiking possibilities steps away from the cabin in the mountains surrounding the lake
- 20-min drive away from the White Mountains and its plethora of year-round activities (Fall foliage leaf peaking, scenic autoroads, rails and aerial tramways, ziplining, white water sports, hiking, skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, snowtubing, skating, dog sledding)
- 40-min away or less from 6 ski resorts (Tenney, Cannon, Waterville, Loon, Gunstock and Ragged Mountains)
- visit the Squam Lake Natural Science Center, the Loon Center, and many other attractions in the area (Polar caves, Logs of fun, Castle in the cloud, Living Shores aquarium, The Old Country Store, Franconia Notch, Shaker Museum, and more)
- enjoy dinner in the area (The Inn Kitchen and Bar, The Manor on Golden Pond, Walter's basin, The Common Man, Fosters Boiler Room, The Corner House Inn, Little Red Schoolhouse and more)

Access: Because of its unique location on top of Mt Fayal oversseing Squam Lake, the road leading to the cabin is unpaved and steep in some areas. While it may not be necessary, we recommend our guests to drive to the Cabin with a 4-wheel drive. In late Fall/Winter, adequate snow tire equipment is required.

Fantastic views - sunrises and sunsets!
We had nine people staying here and we had plenty of room since we reserved both buildings and more than ample parking for four vehicles. There was enough room for us all to have dinner together, beds were very comfortable, and no one had any complaints. The owner was in contact frequently to assure we had everything we needed and to see if we had questions. As mentioned in the write-up, there are trails accessible right from the property, and several nearby. We enjoyed a day at Ashland Town Beach and the kids loved jumping off the floating dock. They rented kayaks nearby and had a great time. I would recommend this rental!

Delightful Squam Lake Casa
Nine of us returned for a second summer of family vacation. It was again a wonderful experience. The house (Casa) has 3 bedrooms and the cabin (Casita) has 3 bedrooms. The drive up the mountainside is a trek up a dirt road, but then the approach to the site is paved. Inside, the kitchen is well appointed, and there is an indoor dining room, plus a large outside deck offering a table and plenty of chairs for outdoor meals. The living room is cozy, and comfortable, with plenty of books and games, as well as brochures listing nearby trails, swimming, and boating sites. The deck looks down on Squam Lake, and is surrounded by beautiful gardens. We hope to return again soon!

A lovely home and a gorgeous view
My sister and I came up to the property for a weekend of R&R in late October. The Cotton Lake cabin turned out to be a great choice! It was very quiet at this time of year, which is exactly what we were looking for. The house is clean and beautifully decorated, with a rustic/moose-bear motif throughout, and complemented by photographs and artwork done by the hosts. The kitchen is extremely well stocked with cooking and baking supplies. The bathrooms are well appointed - we did not use the Jacuzzi tub but it was clean and looked inviting! The view is incredible and we enjoyed time out on the deck hanging out and taking it in. There is plenty of seating and looked ideal for a glass of wine with friends after a fun day at the lake or shopping. A couple of things to know: as noted by other reviewers, the road to the cabin is very steep and I would make every effort to navigate it for the first time in the daylight. The blue bedroom does not appear to have a door between it and the main part of the house, and the upstairs bedroom has a curtain separating the stairs from the rest of the house. There is only one shower; the Jacuzzi has a spray attachment. This was not a problem for us but could be a consideration for others with privacy concerns. Also definitely recommend reading over the Guide to the house, it is helpful. Thanks to MIchael for keeping the hard copy of it on the coffeetable! We would definitely consider returning to this property!
