Spacious ground floor barn sleeps 4
About Alison Hall
I was born only 10 miles away and although I have travelled and lived around the world, I have come back home as I love it. I have three grown up daughters, two of them live in Australia. My youngest daughter is a vet and lives from home.
Alison Hall purchased this Barn in 1998
Why Alison Hall chose Thakeham
When I first saw this farmhouse and buildings it felt as if time stood still here. I loved the garden, trees, pond and stream that had flowed past these old buildings for centuries. It is a haven for wildlife too and easy to pass the time just standing still.
What makes this Barn unique
Although in the country, we are not cut off. There are lots of attractions in the cities nearby too. So there is something for everybody.

A great place to unplug
We really enjoyed our stay at the Old Stables! Due to being out in the countryside there is no mobile phone reception. The WiFi strength/speed is not adequate for normal online usage. There is no freezer which since we were self catering limited what food we could buy and store. The location was great for us and the beds were comfortable. Bathroom was great and outdoor area was lovely. Overall we enjoyed our stay and will look to stay again.
I am so glad you enjoyed staying at Old Stables. We do have communication issues in this area and depending on your provider mobile signal is patchy. Also the satellite broadband we have is on a monthly allowance. Guests are asked not to use this as a streaming service but sometimes they do. This means that at the end of the month we have very limited usage. It’s quite frustrating for all of you who are used to unlimited access. So sorry.
A beautiful property in gorgeous surroundings and a very friendly owner & cute little dog! We thoroughly enjoyed our brief stay.
So glad you liked it. My dog Sonic loved the games too!
had a lovely holiday we all enjoyed our stay

Lovely short break
We were warm ,comfortable, made to feel very welcomed, all little bits you need are there
Ie oil, salt, pepper, Lou roll etc
Alison gave advice about where to go for our specific needs and it was perfect,
If you like walking then devils dyke is a must , and if a quaint shopping place then steyning is lovely , and we went to farring beach and walked to goring on sea it was lovely , we liked Worthing it’s self if you like normal big shops .
We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend.
I am so glad you enjoyed exploring this county and that my suggestions hit the mark. It was a pleasure to host you.
Calm, comfort & privacy
We spent 5 enjoyable nights in The Old Stables, which was a perfect base for exploring the countryside and attractions of West Sussex. The large open plan kitchen/diner was a wonderful place to start and end the day, with a peaceful view across the garden and stream. Simple but stylish décor, comfortable beds and sofas and good quality art prints made us feel at home.
Although the Stable is very close to the farmhouse, the layout gave us privacy, and the fenced in area facing the garden meant our dog could lie outside in the sun whenever she felt like it.
Alison was both friendly and efficient, explaining anything that was needed, and never intruding.
All-in-all a lovely place to stay, and we hope to visit again.
Thank you so much for taking the time to give Old Stables a review. It was a pleasure to meet you and I am so happy you enjoyed your stay.
Delightful rural cottage with all mod cons
Spacious and airy rooms, well equipped and well designed kitchen, with warm and comfy bedrooms. Very convenient for our outings to Hove, Pulborough and Steyning. The breakfast room with marvellous views over the fields. Alison was very welcoming and helpful. We would certainly recommend this property for a peaceful country stay.
Thank you so much for your review
Close to the South Downs National Park there are miles of walking trails on the seashore, woodland and the open hills. There are two stately homes nearby; the Elizabethan Parham House and Petworth House. The RSPB has a nationally known wetlands reserve at Pulborough. Goodwood hosts horseracing as well as the famous vintage car rallies. Hickstead showground runs international showjumping and dressage competitions. The south coast is nearby with fun for children at Littlehampton and bathing at Climping. Just a few miles away is Fishers Farm Park an award winning country activity and play park.
There are beautiful towns and cities to visit too; Chichester with its stunning cathedral and coastline which is a mecca for sailing enthusiasts. Arundel with its own castle; Brighton with the fascinating Lanes with little shops and the Pier.
