Over 200 years old and once the home of a Welsh landowner, Aelybryn is a beautiful, detached holiday home that has been sympathetically restored by the current owner who lives nearby. Retaining many original features, this double-fronted house offers a choice of attractive living spaces, including sitting rooms, a cellar games room and a cosy reading room. Outside, children will love the galleon decking, complete with canons and a ship’s wheel, as well as a pirates’ chest with dressing up clothes. There is a separate play area with climbing frame, swings and a slide. For the adults, there is a private hot tub and a choice of seating areas around the purpose-built barbecue. Ideally located on the edge of the small village of Mydroilyn, the house is just a few miles from Ceredigion’s Heritage Coast; 22 miles of rich coastline including dunes at Ynyslas, storm beaches, sheltered sandy bays, high cliffs and coastal paths. The nearby Georgian harbour town of Aberaeron is a must to visit; once being a major trading port in west Wales and where many of the colourful painted houses were once owned by sea captains. Today, the town prides itself on lively festivals, exhibitions, events and sporting tournaments, as well as providing chic shops and an array of cafés and restaurants to suit all tastes and budgets. The National Trust property of Llanerchaeron House can also be visited from here via a traffic-free cycleway and riverside walk. The sandy beaches at the quaint town of New Quay are under a 15-minute drive away, and from the harbour, visitors can take a dolphin watching trip or a fishing boat expedition. At the coast or inland, there is a wealth of attractions and activities available, from forest walks, cycle trails, pony trekking and golf, to historical sites such as Strata Florida, Devil’s Bridge or Dolaucothi Goldmine. There are also many appealing towns and villages, including the university towns of Aberystwyth and Lampeter. Guests will never be short of things to see and do in Ceredigion, and after a busy day exploring, return to the splendid comfort of Aelybryn. Beach 5 miles. Shop 2 miles, pub 50 yards, restaurant ½ mile.
