With fine plaster ceilings and 18th-century oak panelling, this beautifully decorated and comfortably furnished holiday property forms a separate, self-contained wing of Whalton’s historic and fascinating Manor House. Visitors are encouraged to enjoy the well-known, magnificent 3-acre garden, originally designed by Gertrude Jekyll and Edwin Lutyens, which has an enviable reputation for its stunning planting (occasionally open to private groups). East Wing has its own secluded garden within the grounds. Druridge Bay’s long sweep of golden beach is 30 minutes’ drive, as are the beautiful Alnwick Gardens and the Roman Hadrian’s Wall. Easy touring to the National Park, the Cheviots and the Scottish borders. Morpeth 5 miles. Newcastle-upon-Tyne 17 miles. Shop 4 miles, pub/restaurant in village.
Penny, the owner, does everything to make your stay enjoyable and ensures you have everything you need. The property is charming and oozes lots of unique period character. This is the first time i have been able to lay full length in a bath and be fully submerged in water, a real treat and add a glass of wine - perfect! Beds very comfortable. Kitchen well equipped. We were a mixed group of ages (25-80), celebrating an 80th birthday. A fantastic weekend. Would definitely recommend and look forward to another visit.
