Attached to the owners’ home which dates back over 300 years, Owl Cottage is a cosy and comfortable, self-contained holiday cottage, situated in the pretty hamlet of Whalley Banks in the heart of Lancashire’s beautiful Ribble Valley. Owl Cottage is just 1½ miles away from the bustling village of Whalley, and you can walk into the town in just 15 minutes via a scenic footpath. With its pubs, restaurants, cafes and interesting little shops, it is one of the Ribble Valley’s most popular villages. Whalley also has its own ancient church and abbey ruins, which date back to the 12th century. The village hosts ghost walks throughout the year and in early December, guests can experience life in the Victorian times with its famous Pickwick Night. Public transport links are very good from here, with buses into Blackburn, 7 miles, Preston, 15 miles Skipton, 23 miles, and Manchester, 30 miles. Buses and trains also go to Clitheroe, 4 miles, which is the Ribble Valley’s largest market town. Including a wide range of shops, bars, cafes and restaurants, Clitheroe also has a castle and museum, making the town a must see whilst in the area. Another must see is the magnificent Stonyhurst College, 5 miles, which has a wonderful collection of objects, paintings, books and manuscripts dating back over its 400-year history. Enjoying a peaceful, rural location, Owl Cottage is ideal for couples wanting a relaxing break. There are lots of lovely walks in the area, making it ideal for those who love the outdoors. Other activities available locally include golf, fishing and cycling. Ribble Valley also has a great reputation for good food and drink, and there are some excellent pubs and restaurants in the area. There is even a Ribble Valley food trail, which you can follow to experience some of the best local produce the area has to offer. Excellent accessibility to the road network also makes this a great touring base. The Lake District, Yorkshire Dales, Liverpool, Manchester, Lancaster as well as Blackpool and the Fylde Coast are all easily accessible by car. Shop, pub and restaurant 1 mile.
