Your host Ted Sparling is a life time Florida resident who has traveled all over Florida. Gulf county has all the things I love the most about Florida and the water. It is one off the few places I never want to leave. I know you will come to love Port St Joe and the surrounding area like I have and invite you to experience it for yourselves.
Ted Sparling purchased this house in 2004
I bought this house many years ago because of its proximity to everything. It has the best of what gulf county has to offer in any direction. Great views, good clean neighborhood, and But most important was its close to what we enjoy most about the area and that's the water.
A typical summer day starts with a cup of coffee on the porch swing or the back porch, Loading the boat from the back porch, topping off the boat with fuel one block down the road, splashing the boat the next block down the road, playing on the water all day and sometimes into the night. Cooking our days catch on the back porch for dinner. watching the sun go down, then telling lies into the night.
Then getting up and doing it again.
On our days off we go driving on the beach, or to Apalachicola, or to Panama City if we feel the need for civilization.
Ted, your house was SO perfect for our family! We ended up not taking our dog, but for certain we will next time - the fenced area is great! You've attended to so many small comforts - an abundance of towels & extra blankets; comfy beds, pillows & smooth, soft sheets; a view of the bay from every bedroom; everything we needed in the kitchen was right there, and we actually "ate in" multiple times! ( I even cooked the traditional New Years dinner: pork, collard greens, hoppin' john, & cornbread!)
I LOVED that there were plenty of shelves in both bathrooms and lots of hooks for hanging towels. My husband and son-in-laws were excited to have the ESPN channels for the ballgames. We worked jigsaw puzzles on the big coffee table. (It REALLY saved our backs when Bob determined it raised to dining level!)
One of my MAJOR criteria in looking for a vacation home was LARGE, COMFORTABLE, furniture with enough places for six adults to be all together. Many of the places shown online simply do not have that. My husband is 6'3" and Andy, my son-in-law, is 6'5" & I just couldn't see them "perched" on the edge of a cute, beachy, wicker settee for an entire week! So the living space was comfortable, roomy, peaceful in decor, and warm and cozy with the fireplace going.
We sipped wine and watched the sunset on the bay from the front porch and enjoyed bringing the outdoors in through ALL the WINDOWS!!
Thank you again for being such a thoughtful host and for allowing us to renew, reflect and begin the new year in your wonderful home.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Crab Shack over Christmas 2016. The house was very clean, comfortable, and equipped for all our needs. We especially enjoyed the bike path that was nearby, and even just biking through the quiet neighborhoods of Port St. Joe.
We also enjoyed being able to have our dogs with us, in that the Crab Shack was pet friendly!
Being near town (walking distance!) was convenient for grocery shopping and restaurants, and it was just a short drive to the beautiful beaches of Cape San Blas.
The Crab Shack is a comfortable, attractive home in a beautiful, quaint area of Florida!
Our annual trip to Port St. Joe would not be complete without staying at The Crab Shack. It truly is a home away from home. The beds are incredibly comfortable. The living room area has plenty of room to sit comfortably and enjoy the big screen TV after a fun day on the bay or at the beach. The location is great - close to downtown, grocery store, marina, restaurants and just a short scenic drive away the state park and Apalachicola. The neighborhood is very quiet and there is a beautiful view of the bay from the front porch. The sunsets are spectacular. Ted is a great host and he always makes sure we have everything we need to enjoy his awesome house. We can't wait for next year!
We loved Port St. Joe, situated close to Cape San Blas and the state park, and also Mexico Beach. This is for those who want to experience "the real Florida", and a real small town with history. The Crab Shack had comfortable beds and more than enough room to stretch out. The kitchen was well-stocked, and the cottage was clean and in a quiet neighborhood with big towering pines. At night we sat on the back deck and watched the stars through the canopy of trees. We kayaked and snorkeled, rode horses on the beach, went fishing, and of course, played at the beautiful beaches, especially at the state park, without the crowds that flock farther up 30A. The only wish I had was that the restaurants would stay open later and on Sunday. We didn't give ourselves enough time to enjoy all there was to explore and experience, but it was a very comfortable place to stay, relax and feel at home.
The pictures on this site are amazing, but they don't do the house justice. It was perfect! We took so many extras not fully knowing what to expect and never had to unpack or use those things. You truly feel at home in this house. We walked right across the street (some days carried our kayaks) and fished from the bay, brought our catch back and cooked them for dinner. We tried several restaurants but of course nothing was as good as cooking our own fresh caught fish. The owner was very knowledgeable and helpful with what to/what not to do in town. All the locals we encountered were friendly and treated you like you belong there instead of like a tourist. Port St. Joe and The Crab Shack will definitely be our home away from home for future vacations.
We loved the house and location. It was adorable, comfortable, had every imaginable kitchen utensil and wifi. We were there for a wedding so didn't get to go out on the water. Heard the fishing is great. Loved the location across from the bay and Cape san blas should not be missed! Lovely stay!
My family and friends enjoyed a weekend trip that was awesome! The house was perfect for 8 people! All the amenities were included and the location was great. We were able to walk across the street to let the kids fish in the bay and we also drove to the state park to enjoy a day at the beach. There are several great eating places close by, if you don't care to cook, but the kitchen is fully stocked to prepare a full meal. The yard is large, which is great for the kids to get outside and play. The back deck was perfect to grill, enjoy a meal, watch the kids play and enjoy the breeze from the bay. We would love to stay here again!
World class bay & offshore fishing available from right across the street, or from the city boat ramp 2 blocks away. The Port St Joe marina is also 3 blocks down the road. In addition to fishing, the scalloping is some of the best in the state when in season.
Cape San Blas state park is across the bay along with its world famous white sand, shelling, and wild life.
The Boat ramp is 2 blocks down the road. All local restaurants and shopping with in easy walking distance.
Every day on the water here is different, you never know what you will catch or see. Turtles, rays, manatees, dolphin, sharks. You may see them all in 10 minutes or throughout the day. Every day is an adventure.
Horse back riding on the beach is available daily.
