You can walk from Skelwith up the side of the River Brathay to Elterwater. The charming village of Elterwater also has a pub serving delicious food, much of it sourced locally. The bustling town of Ambleside is a 10-minute drive away and has specialist shops and restaurants, plus from Waterhead you can hire rowing boats or embark on the Windermere Steamer to take you further down the lake to Bowness or Lakeside.
