About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

In a wonderful location directly opposite the water’s edge, this attractive property, adjacent to the owner’s home, was formerly the Wren’s mess during WWII, and has been completely restored with a light and airy feel and nautical theme. Located within the owner’s grounds, it enjoys its own enclosed lawn garden and sitting-out area, an ideal spot to enjoy the balmy summer evenings with an aperitif or a meal. From the property, there are excellent views from either the kitchen or from the spacious master bedroom on the first floor, over the harbour where a plethora of sailing activities can be observed. There is a path alongside the property leading to a green, ideal for children to play in or for dog walking, and this leads to Solent Way for scenic walks and an easy stroll from the local eateries. The foot ferry to Hamble is close by, a pretty seaside village with cobbled streets and independent shops and restaurants, and Hamble Common has 55 acres of coastal heathland for nature and wildlife lovers. This area has many historic links to the D-Day landing, and both Portsmouth and Southampton are nearby, with plenty of maritime heritage, as well as war ships to explore. Warsash Nature Reserve is a bird watcher’s paradise along the River Hamble. Within easy driving distance are Porchester Castle, the wonders of the New Forest with roaming cattle and horses along the heathland, plus Beaulieau Motor Museum. Also within easy driving distance are Marwell Zoo, Peppa Pig World and Winchester Cathedral. Other attractions include Calshot Acitivities Centre, Bursledon Brick Works, (the last remaining steam driven brickworks in the country), Royal Victoria Country Park, QE2 Acitivity Centre, (designed to allow full use for disabled visitors), and activities such as canoeing, climbing, archery, rope course and zip wire, Go Ape, Southampton Sports Centre and Gunwharf Quays at Portsmouth. The ferry to the Isle of Wight can also be taken from Southampton, or London by train is about an hour away. Beach 100 yards. Shop, pub and restaurant 1/2 mile.
