This delightful, partly thatched 16th century barn conversion nestles in the heart of the beautiful village of Combeinteignhead. It has been lovingly restored and furnished to a very good standard and retains many original features, including timber beams and has a lovely log burner nestled into a stone chimney, an outdoor pizza oven, a very quaint patio and walled outdoor area, which is great for children and pets. There are fields all around the property, and the River Teign is a 5-minute walk away over the fields. There is a free tennis court 50 yards away (which has a farmers market next door every weekend), a wonderful riverside pub, restaurant and bar 5 minutes’ walk away, and a 17th century local pub, just 500 yards away, which serves traditional pub food and specialises in award-winning real ales. The pub also has live music evenings, ranging from jazz to rock nights, quiz nights and themed food evenings. The owners also have a smallholding 100 yards away, which guests can visit unaccompanied and contains miniature ponies, chickens and pigs. The river offers a variety of watersports (sailing, water skiing, canoeing etc.) and there is lots of great fishing to be had. It is also renowned with bird watchers and nature lovers. At the mouth of the river approximately 2 miles away, lies the picturesque seaside village of Shaldon with lovely sandy beaches. The larger towns of Teignmouth and Torquay are only a few miles further, which have excellent harbors, restaurants, shops, cinemas, a zoo and the famous Ness Beach. The market town of Newton Abbot is 2 miles away, and has a market on a Saturday and a local farmer’s market on a Tuesday. Dartmoor is within easy driving distance (20 minutes by car), which offers breathtaking landscapes of heather clad tors, wild ponies and sheep. Slightly further afield (35 minutes by car) is the jewel in south Devon’s crown, Dartmouth, the home of Agatha Christie. Visitors are able to catch a steam train in Paignton to visit the NT property and combine this with a ferry up the River Dart. The possibilities are endless, and The Swallows is ideally placed to explore this beautiful part of the country! Shop 2 miles, pub and restaurant 500 yards.
