Situated in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, surrounded by the rolling hills and lush farmland of the Blackdown Hills in mid Devon, the hamlet of Old Bridwell sits on the edge of Uffculme, adjacent to Lord Mountbatten’s 100-acre deer park and wedding venue, Bridwell Park Estate. This row of three holiday cottages can be booked individually for smaller groups and families, or if all booked out, can sleep up to 20 people for larger holidays or gatherings. Beautifully restored from the original working farm buildings and barns, these charming character cottages lie in a spacious gravelled courtyard centred on a thatched circular pump house, with a beautiful listed walled garden with original box hedged pathways, cordons of apple trees and espaliers of pear and plum tress. Spring Cottage (ref 28939) was home to a natural spring, that even in the hottest, driest of weathers continued to flow, leading to the name ’Bride’s Well’, as it was claimed young brides could improve their fertility by washing in the spring water. Bramley (ref 28941) and Rosemary (ref 28940) cottages were originally farm barns used in traditional cider production, using apples grown on the Bridwell Park Estate.
