About Jim Baldwin

I'm a copywriter, editor, book consultant, a songwriter and a musician. I love being in Vermont. I write some of my best stuff here.

Jim Baldwin purchased this cottage in 1983

Why Jim Baldwin chose Newfane

I grew up in the area and still have family and many friends in Vermont. When the possibility arose of having a home here, it just seemed like the right thing.

What makes this cottage unique

Whenever someone says to me, 'Imagine that you are in your special spot, a place where you feel safe and comfortable, and where you feel a profound sense of belonging,' I think of the deck of this cottage. The peace that comes from staying here lasts me for weeks.

Great place to relax and forget about the rest of the world

  • 5 of 5

My friend and I stayed while attending a teacher's conference in Brattleboro. We became the envy of those staying in hotels. So nice to get back to the house and have a glass of wine on the deck while discussing what we learned that day or just relaxing and enjoying the silence and view.

Intend of going back to truly relax.

A slice of heaven in Vermont

  • 5 of 5

What an amazing experience. I was looking for technology detox and to relax after the first four months of middle school teaching and I got even more than I expected. The owner was such a pleasure to deal with and the accommodations were cozy and inviting. The house is set away in the woods, but with an amazing backyard view of the mountains. It is very accessible to all the necessities - homemade food, hiking trails, and clean air. The house had two woodburning stoves - one in the dowsnstairs bedroom, and one upstairs in the living area. I loved the loft bed and the skylight windows that either showed off the amazing night sky or got snow covered after a typical Vermont storm. The driveway was plowed for us without having to make a call and the highways are always cleared. Take advantage of all the surrounding towns with the antique stores, homemade pies, and the snowshoeing trails. I highly recommend this property to anyone looking to just get away!

AWESOME! - PEACEFUL AND BEAUTIFUL

  • 4 of 5

This property is exactly as described. What cannot be described is the wondrous peace, the morning bird songs, the rising mist from the valley. Compact property and easy to find. Close to some beautiful Vermont towns and features. It is well supplied with bed linens and towels as well as basic kitchen needs. There are brush and broom, if you feel so inclined! After a day of rain we found it a little chilly indoors. No problem, wood stoves in both the master bedroom (on ground floor with walk-out to grounds) and the living room (first floor - where the balcony/deck is) with kindling and wood piled outside. The kitchen is a little cramped but everything is handy for one person. It is situated between Newfane (beautiful old village to be visited) and Brattleboro (has all your needs and then some). Swimming holes and hiking trails close by, winding country roads in abundance ...or just spend your time relaxing on the balcony/deck enjoying the peace of the countryside and the beautiful scenery everywhere you look. We certainly look forward to returning some day
