Holly Lodge (27273) is a detached, spacious 18th-century country house. It is truly impressive and has been assessed as 4 Star Gold by VisitEngland. It has been furnished to a very good standard with a profusion of original features, which have been retained and restored. Traditional and contemporary art adds an interesting slant . The bespoke, quirky kitchen is extremely well equippd for all your needs. The Coach House (UKC64) has been carefully renovated in to a lovely cottage and is also assessed as 4 Star Gold. This semi-detached barn conversion is situated adjacent to Holly Lodge, off the large shared parking area. While Holly Lodge was built in 1802, The Coach House was added later in 1861 by Isaac Ernest Hodgson, leaving his initials IEH indelibly marked in the brickwork, now a feature of the wall both inside and out. Coach House has an open plan living room/kitchen on the first floor to take advantage of the views across the Solway Firth, famous for its fantastic sunsets. Relax in front of the woodburner and enjoy the fabulous vistas. As both properties are private and self-contained, they can be booked separately or, alternatively, booked together to accomodate a larger group of up to 14. The garden area for Coach House is separate from that of the main house but they can be enjoyed together. The arrangements can be flexible to suit the needs of guests. The properties are set in substantial wooded gardens, with formal lawns, orchard and patio areas, the whole of which is enclosed and surrounded by countryside. Cockermouth, 8 miles, has coffee shops, restaurants, gastro pubs, shops, cycle hire and art galleries. There are theatres in Keswick, Cockermouth and Whitehaven, all within easy reach and hosting musical and theatrical events all year. The small rural village of Aspatria, 2 miles, also has a small selection of shops. There is a public swimming pool in Cockermouth or you can have your own personal indoor swimming pool, Jacuzzi and steam room (rented by the hour, it is recommended to book early), just 500 yards away from the properties. Fly fishing is available with a trout pond in Gilcrux, 2 miles, and the rivers Ellen in Aspatria, and Derwent in Cockermouth. The beach, lakes and fells are just a 15-minute drive away. Horse riding is also available locally. Shop 2 miles, pubs and restaurants ½ mile.
