Built as a charity hospital in 1850, it has now been converted, making a relaxing retreat. York is a living museum, with evidence of Roman, Anglo Saxon, Viking, Norman and Tudor visitors, yet is still a lively, modern city with shopping, tea shops, riverside pubs, restaurants and a vibrant night life. The Yorkshire Dales, Moors and Coast, Durham and Harrogate are all an easy drive. Shop, pub and restaurant 50 yards.
