Lovely accomodation, perfect location

If you love Ravenglass (as I do) anywhere to stay there is good but Ashlea Cottage was better than expected, given the price we paid for an off-season short break. It's well-furnished, comfy, lovely bedrooms and the heating... We arrived on a very chilly evening, turned up the heating and the place was warm within a very short time. The owner was also helpful and friendly on the phone before we went.

All the equipment we needed was available, although I was glad we'd checked that we needed to take towels. I've seen a few people comment that the shower is impossible and very low-ceilinged - I'm 5'7" and managed fine, even with my hair piled up on my head.

Check round the kitchen for essential switches (towel rail and shower) The shower switch is under the edge of a worktop and you need to switch on the towel rail if the cooker's on

The location is great - almost at the end of Main Street so a very short walk to the shore but still close enough to access the footpath to Muncaster.

If you have a car, do watch for parking restrictions - there's a single yellow line outside so you'll need to park elsewhere if you're in during the day

The only downsides: The staircase to the 2nd floor is very steep, as the information says - so not for the faint-hearted. We didn't use the storm gate to the beach - not really suitable for taking a dog down those ladder-steps.

All in all, perfect location, a great holiday stay and highly recommended - hopefully I'll be going back later in the year
