Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday apartment in New Town - The Walter Scott Suite

Apartment, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4-5)

Stunning city centre apartment with amazing views of Edinburgh Castle in the heart of Edinburgh. This is an amazing opportunity to be at the heart of the action for both the largest arts festival in the world, The Edinburgh International Festival and Edinburgh's Christmas & Hogmannay celebrations. Just minutes walk from the main venues and cultural/historical attractions, German markets, ice rink and big wheel etc for the festive hols, and surrounded by the best shopping, bars and restaurants, this is all about location, location, location! Pleasant walks can be enjoyed nearby along the Water of Leith walkway, Inverleith Park and the Royal Botanic Gardens while there is convenient road access to the west leading to the city bypass, Edinburgh International Airport and central Scotland’s motorway network. Waverley Train Station is also within a short walk.

This 5 star luxury apartment has unprecedented views of Edinburgh castle and commands an extremely central location on the corner of fashionable George Street and North Castle Street. Surrounded by leading stores such as Harvey Nichol's and great restaurants and bars. It is decorated and furnished to the highest standards.

One of the first flats to be built in the New Town by James Craig in 1790 and directly adjacent to the Edinburgh town house of Sir Walter Scott! Two bedrooms - one master, (with super king-size divan) and stunning castle views. The single bedroom (but large enough for two with a single/trundle bed that coverts to an additional single) has a very comfy new bed with good length. Both bedrooms are newly equipped with acoustic glazing, so extremely quite from the street noise below. large elegant lounge with two large windows, contemporary furnishings and decor with two comfortable sofas and a marble dining table with chairs for six with matching consul and side tables. There is a large Sony flat screen TV with access to Sky and Apple television.

State of the art Kitchen and Bathroom ( with under floor heating & steam enclosure) - limestone throughout: Fully fitted contemporary, luxury kitchen with everything you would expect of a 5 star property and bathroom. Double ended bath and steam shower, under-floor heating and limestone wet-room.

The property comes with access to the beautiful private gardens on Queen Street (residents only), just two minutes from the front door, which provides the most perfect oasis in the heart of the city. I use it for my limited jogging circuit when I'm in residence, as it's perfectly manicured and also entirely geared up for secure doggie walking. Wonderful in the Summer for festival picnics and reading the papers of a morning.

There is a stunning fireworks closing party every year to mark the end of The Festival at the end of August. Huge display of colour from the ramparts of Edinburgh Castle. The views from the building are the best in town! You need a ticket to hear the SCO playing at the Ross Band Stand in Princes Street Gardens, which accompany the fireworks display, but the majority of spectators tune into local radio to hear the live broadcast and watch the pyrotechnians paint the sky in explosive colour. There's not a better view than from the windows of the master bedroom!! Please email for further information and rates or booking details in the first instance - DATES ARE STILL AVAILABLE for 2016 ON FIRST COME BASIS! This event presents a great opportunity to entertain across both properties.

Christmas and Hogmanay (Scotlands' New Year Celebrations) also bring their own added attractions, with new events planned on George Street every year; Xmas markets and a wonderful sparkly atmosphere enhanced by the beautiful festive street lighting. There is still availability for Christmas 2015! The celebrations have evolved into a world class event over the years with a full daily programme designed to appeal to all tastes and age groups in the heart of the city and literally just minutes walk from the door step. Fancy a change of scene in one of the most historically beautiful city's in the world - book now to avoid disappointment! Please refer to bookings calendar for availability.

We have two luxury apartments in the building, both with the same elevation and stunning views of Edinburgh Castle. The Robert Louis Stevenson Suite ( below this one) has a more retro, contemporary feel but with classical over tones, especially in the master bedroom and kitchen. You can see the details at www.vrbo.com/453347 Please do contact us to enquire about a dual apartment booking, when we can offer a special rate for larger groups, wedding parties etc. There is access to a very large terrace by special arrangement over looking fashionable George Street.

About Morris Paton

I worked as an actor for many years and as a radio broadcaster on the BBC, presenting arts programmes. I'm also very interested in cultural tourism projects and in 1996 created The Edinburgh Literary Pub Tour, an award winning tour performed by professional actors. It runs throughout the year and Rick Steves, presenter of travel programmes USA wide, is quoted as saying in a recent review, 'for an entertaining insight into the greats of Scottish literature, served up with new friends, good beer, and lots of laughs, The Edinburgh Literary Pub Tour is my vote for the best way to spend an Edinburgh Evening!' so can't be bad!! Let me know if your interested in going on the tour at check-in and I can reserve you a slot.

Morris Paton purchased this apartment in 2001

Why Morris Paton chose Edinburgh

I'm interested in all things literary and so when this apartment came on the market in 2001, I was excited by the fact that it sits just across the road from Sir Walter Scot's Edinburgh townhouse and on the other side of the street from the birth place of 'Wind in the Willow's' author, Kenneth Grahame. of course, that's not forgetting that the apartment has unprecedented, stunning views of Edinburgh Castle and is in an excellent, central location for shopping, restaurants and culture - especially during The International Edinburgh Festival!

What makes this apartment unique

Central location for great shopping and superb restaurants and bars.Great views and

luxury decor and furnishings throughout.

Access to lovely private gardens in the centre of town only 2 mins walk from the building.

On street metered parking or 7x24 only 10 mins walk away.

The end of August is the finale of The Edinburgh International Festival and there is the most spectacular fire works display from the castle ramparts (unprecedented views from the apartment windows) with live orchestral accompaniment by The Scottish Chamber Orchestra. The apartment provides probably the best view in town of this spectacular event and whilst the music can be heard being played live from across the road in Princes Street gardens, I always amp the sound by tuning in live to the local radio station. So it's a great opportunity for a night to remember and for entertaining etc. Here's some of the details from their site:

'Bringing Edinburgh’s summer festival season to a magnificent conclusion, the Virgin Money Fireworks Concert combines passionate music from the Scottish Chamber Orchestra with breathtaking pyrotechnics, specially choreographed by international fireworks artists Pyrovision to enhance the musical experience. It is all set against the stunning backdrop of Edinburgh’s historic castle.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We loved our stay here. The apartment is large and beautiful and has everything. Amazing views, the best neighborhood, convenient for shopping, busses, all the stores, restaurants, museums, pubs etc. All the amenities including Sky television and free wi-fi made it even better! The owner was very easy to reach and work with. We definitely want to stay here again!

You couldn't ask for a better location to visit Eburg. Right off George street and in the middle of shopping, eating, everything. Just a short walk to the train station and about .7 miles to the old town. Very easy to navigate

Our family of 5, 2 adults and 3 small kids, loved our stay at this apt. The kitchen is huge and well supplied. There is a separate washer and drier which makes doing laundry much quicker than the combo versions. Master bedroom is great, but the 2nd bedroom is beyond tiny. Worked for us, but may not work for larger kids (our 2 girls are 7 and 9). 4 year old Boy slept on fold out chair in living room and this worked well for us.

Property comes with a key to a private garden which is beyond a plus! Such an awesome little place.

Only complaint about the whole experience would be the carpeting. It's sisal throughout, wall to wall. The fibers get on EVERYTHING. Wool socks are practically ruined. Just don't walk around in socks or sit on the floor and you're good to go!

Thanks for a great stay.

Luxurious flat with all of the modern appointments you would need.

  • 5 of 5

Fabulous location, constant communication and luxurious comfort. The flat is located in a posh area with a fabulous view of the castle from your bedroom. The website description is conservative since it has so much more than advertised. The owner has gone to great lengths to reduce outside noise but there is only so much one can do when located in the middle of the nightlife. The weekends were loud until late in the night but quieted down on Sunday. Fabulous property for couples or families.

A delightful flat in a fantastic location

  • 5 of 5

I would recommend this flat to anyone wanting to experience all the amenities of Edinburgh (bars/restaurants/shops/galleries/great architecture/culture) on their doorstep. A short walk from Waverley Station and an even shorter walk from the tram stop that links with the airport, so a car is not required. The second bedroom is certainly small, but fine for a couple of children ( or 2 adults who know each other well). Morris was extremely helpful and we would happily stay here again next time we are in Edinburgh.

Fabulous accomodation, perfectly situated with stunning views

  • 5 of 5

I could not have asked for better accomodation for our weekend stay in Edinburgh. Ideally situated to take advantage of all that Edinburgh has to offer, surrounded by excellent restaurants and shops.

The accomodation is stunning, well kept and very comfortable.

Excellent communication between the owner and the housekeeper Janice. Janice met us at the accomodation and was very welcoming and helpful and luckily for us, on hand should you need her! Thank you.😀򐀊

I would definitely recommend this accomodation to family and friends.

The added bonus was that we were able to stay here with our wee dog, who enjoyed walks in Queen Street gardens to which we had private access. A very enjoyable stay, will definitely return.

Luxury in heart of Edinburgh with view of castle

  • 5 of 5

The apartment is on the corner of George Street, locating you in the heart f the designer stores and bars, with stunning views of the castle, and no more than a 5 minute walk away from all the major sights. The apartment itself is decorated to a superb standard, with no expense sparred. The high ceiling rooms are all huge, with a cosy lounge, luxurious bedrooms and a spacious, well equipped kitchen. Communication from the owner was excellent, and nothing was too much trouble. Highly recommended.
