The Aïgo de Vido, "life water" in Provencal language: nature meeting place

Bedrooms 1
Space 484 sq. ft.
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 2 - 7 nights

About the property

Provencal gite for 5 people between a stream, a pool, a forest, and fields

The Aïgo de Vido name ("life water" in Provencal language) comes from its original location on the edge of the Estoublaïsse stream go down the Alps to cross the Estoublon village before to finish on the Asse, then the Durance, and on the Mediterranean Sea. The gite is isolated from the village (600 m away); it is reachable through a dirt road suitable for motor vehicle of 200 m from the D667 road. This gite, with an interior fully renovated in 2015, can accommodates up to 5 people in its 45 sq. m with a mezzanine that can be closed offering a double bed and a single sofa. There is also a double sofa bed in the living room downstairs that could be isolated by a curtain. Our fitting priorities: the functionality, the brightness (12 windows and French doors!), the external-nature openness (sliding doors, curtain). Three entrance doors allow heading to 3 different outdoor spaces (terrace, wooden balcony and staircase): a pool and terrace corner to the north side, a stream to the south and a forest to the west. The choice of wood for the fitting bring warmth and comfort reminding the surrounding nature. The gite has all the necessary fixtures and fittings to make your daily holiday life easier: an equipped kitchen, a living room, a dining area, and a bathroom with toilets. The interior bring freshness in summer and warmth in winter thanks to its full insulation (roof, floor, walls, and windows), the blinds, and an electric heater. For leisure activities, there is a sofa and a TV, you will have the possibility to borrow adult and children books from the owner, retired professor (called "Christine of the river" in the village!), as well as board games. Outside, there is a pool (5 m away from the house) shared with the owner and sometimes her 2 adult children visiting, in return for a pool and pool area maintenance. Water games are available as well as sun loungers. For your safety, the pool is fully fenced by a wooden fence and an invisible protection grating. There is also a mobile barbecue available on both terraces, a Ping-Pong table, tables and outdoor armchairs, sun umbrellas, and a direct access to the stream (20 m away). The outdoor layout has been guided by the search for privacy: wooden walls to seclude the house to the courtyard with car park and the owner's house just 50 m away. The originality of the location of the house is both its isolation in the middle of nature 500 m above sea level with a stream, a forest, and fields without neighbours; and also the proximity with the Estoublon village (10 min away on foot) where you will find all you need: a grocery store, with wines, fruits, tobacco shop opens everyday including bank holidays! There is also a bar and restaurant (dish of the day per 10 €), the post office and the street butcher shop 2 times per week. you can reach the surrounding cities easily by car: Digne is 20 minutes away, Riez is 30 minutes away, Oraison is 30 minutes away, Manosque is 30 min away and further there is Marseille 1 h 30 away that offer everything: markets, events, activities, tours, pond, beaches... The Aïgo de Vido-gite location allows you to start hikes on the surrounding hills directly on foot without taking your car, also to start hikes on the edge of the river or on the Gorge of Trévans, Majastres, Saint Jurs, the Mont Denier... You will need to take your car for other available hikes as The Verdon Gorge, Plateau de Valensole, Pays Dignois, and so on. It is possible to loan guidebooks and maps. Finally, the Aïgo de Vido gite is a privileged place to be close to the nature in a harmonious and soothing environment and let’s not forget the material comfort.

About Christine Jousset

Retired professor, I choose to live in Estoublon in Provence for 5 years after spending many years in a city-dweller life. I currently spend all my time to renovate my house and the gite of the Aïgo de Vido in order to share this place with others, family, friends or holidaymakers.

Christine Jousset purchased this cottage in 1989

Why Christine Jousset chose Estoublon

Since 1989 (date of purchase), the Aïgo de Vido gite has always been a welcoming place for my relatives: family and friends; and I decided, 4 years ago, to extend it for holidaymakers from all horizons.

What makes this cottage unique

It is the originality of the gite location on the stream edge, located in the hollow of a valley, surrounded by nature without being isolated from others that seduce me at time of purchase as well as the presence of water, a stream and a pool, in a warm-summer region.

Lovely setting and so quiet

  • 4 of 5

Having a swimming pool available was sheer luxury. Owner, Christine gave us a warm welcome, always ready to help out if needed, speaks a little English so we got by with our little French. The accommodation is very well equipped and all you need for a comfortable stay. The seating available in various parts of the garden are superb. At the bottom of the garden is a dried up river bed which is lovely to walk along and next to it is a running river. We love bird watching and got such a lovely surprise seeing a Night Jar which are rare to see. They come out like the Bats do as it goes dark and hunt for insects. Seeing that just made our holiday there. The biggest draw back is no Wfi which is needed by most on holiday, and if this was to be installed we would go back again for another holiday.

Christine Jousset I confirm you that the installation of the Wi-Fi is planned for the next season and that at present a connection is always possible for the coffee(café) and for the grocer's shop of the village: it is in 10 minutes on foot but it is maybe also the charm of the rural world. See you soon then and with pleasure. Christine Jousset

Glorious hidden cottage in Southern France

  • 5 of 5

We couldn't have had a better stay here. The house is wonderful! It has everything you need, including a great pool just outside to escape the heat. The house is light, spacious and beautifully refurbished inside with lots of space for sitting, eating and drinking outside too. We had a magical time exploring the fantastic area with its gorge, mountains and wildlife. The village itself is also really great, friendly people and a lovely local restaurant. The owners are incredibly kind and accommodating, we were made to feel totally at home. We would highly recommend this place. 5 stars!

calme et charme réunis, un petit paradis

  • 5 of 5
