Description

Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday apartment in Bruntsfield - #5 Edinburgh Central Apartment

2 bedrooms apartment sleeps up to 5 guests

The Space

#5 is located on the second floor within a traditional, stone-built tenement, constructed circa 1900, and typically for this type and age of property, there is no elevator. Guests should be mindful that there are two sets of stairs (one 18 steps and the other 20 steps) to reach the apartment.

Fully modernised internally, with a keen eye on design, #5 is configured to sleep four guests as standard, within two bedrooms; one king size and one bunkbed room. An additional double sofa bed allows for flexible sleeping arrangements to be made for four people, or for an additional guest.

We can provide a travel cot and high chair upon request. We provide the travel cot but not the sheets, covers, pillows etc. Some parents prefer duvets, others prefer blankets, others still require non-allergenic sheets. We just can't provide all options so leave it to individual parents to arrange their own.

While there is a vast range of places to eat within easy walking distance of #5, there may be times where you prefer eating in. We have incorporated a clever dining table within the feature wall in the lounge, which is large enough to comfortably seat four people.

We provide umbrella's for those "odd" days when it might rain, and would appreciate them being left in the apartment for the use of future guests.

There is a hairdryer in the master bedroom and we also provide universal adapters for use with your electrical devices. Again, we would appreciate these being left in the apartment at the end of your stay, for the use of future guests.

Guest Access

#5 is available for the exclusive use of our guests.

Interaction with Guests

#5 standard check-in time is 15:00 (3pm), and check-out time is 11:00 (11am). If you require to check-in early or late check-out, please let us know and we will see what we can do to help.

The Neighbourhood

Newington is one of the more vibrant areas of Edinburgh. Nicolson and South Clerk Streets have a real feel of an old town High Street, with lots of quirky, independent shops alongside the more recognisable High Street names.

Round the corner from #5 is the historic Meadows, which remain one of the most important open spaces in Edinburgh and one of the most popular. There's something for everyone within the biggest play area in the city; large grassed areas, tennis courts, cafe and toilets.

Getting Around

From the city centre (Waverley Station or St Andrew's Bus Station), #5 is easily reached by taxi, approximately £5. There are numerous Lothian buses from North Bridge, fare £1.60, and for the more energetic, #5 can be reached in about 20 minutes on foot by following North Bridge all the way up to St Patrick's Square, a straight road.

As with most large cities, car parking space is a premium, and Edinburgh is no exception. Luckily, most of the must see sites are easily accessible from #5 on foot, or by one of the regular, convenient bus services. There are Park and Ride sites located at various locations on the outskirts of the city, again with regular bus services to and from the city, which means you can enjoy your trip without the worry of having to find parking. If you are bringing your car into the city, there is an affordable carpark in St. Leonards Street called Easi Parks. You can park your car for £8 all day from 8am to 8pm, Monday to Saturday. Easi Parks is only 5 minutes walking distance from the apartment. If you required full 24 hours parking, there is an NCP carpark on St John's Hill (£15 for 24 hours), which is approximately a 10 minute walk. Parking outside the accommodation is free between 6.30pm to 8.30am Monday to Saturday, and all day on Sunday. On street, metered parking is available on Buccleuch Place, just round the corner from the apartment and costs £2.60 an hour, for a maximum of 4 hours. This is patrolled by Traffic Wardens.

About James

Originally from the West coast of Scotland (Burns Country!), I settled in Edinburgh in the early 80's, having lived overseas for a few years while working in the hospitality industry. My travels have seen me venture to America and Asia as well as numerous countries within Europe. Having a Son now living in Australia, the Antipodes is beckoning!

Having a hospitality background and staying in beautiful, first class hotels as well as more homely lodgings, my hope is that the welcome you receive at #5 is a blend of the best of all of these experiences.

Edinburgh is a beautiful and vibrant city and in spite of knowing it very well, I'm still amazed at all the hidden treasures and secret places my guests find and share with me. I'll try and be as helpful as I can in introducing you to everything Edinburgh has to offer.

James purchased this apartment in 2008

Why James chose Edinburgh

Newington is one of the more vibrant areas of Edinburgh. Nicolson and South Clerk Streets have a real feel of an old town High Street, with lots of quirky, independent shops alongside the more recognisable High Street names.

Round the corner from #5 is the historic Meadows, which remain one of the most important open spaces in Edinburgh and one of the most popular. There's something for everyone within the biggest play area in the city; large grassed areas, tennis courts, cafe and toilets.

There are Park and Ride sites located at various locations on the outskirts of the city, again with regular bus services to and from the city, which means you can enjoy your trip without the worry of having to find parking. If you really need a parking, there is an Easi Parks available, which is only 5 minutes walk from the apartment.

What makes this apartment unique

From the city centre (Waverley Station or St Andrew's Bus Station), #5 is easily reached by taxi, approximately £5. There are numerous buses from North Bridge (e.g. Lothian 3, 30, 33) basic fare £1.60, and for the more energetic, #5 can be reach in about 20 minutes on foot.

If you are travelling by car, there is an affordable (email hidden). Leonards Street called Easi Parks. You can park your car for £8 all day from 8am to 8pm, Monday to Saturday. Easi Parks is only 5 minutes walking distance from the apartment. Parking outside the accommodation is free between 6.30pm to 8.30am and all day on Sunday.

Fantastic location, excellent host

  • 5 of 5

We could not have been happier with our stay here. It is in a great location - close walk to Royal Mile, great restaurants and bars, and about 30 seconds to the bus line. James was the perfect host and we had every convenience available. The apartment was immaculate on our arrival and furnished with lots of nice touches, such as plug adapters, toiletries, and basic breakfast items. He was very gracious and responsive over the HomeAway app for the few questions we had. I would absolutely recommend this property to anyone visiting Edinburgh.

Lovely, comfortable flat in a great location!

  • 5 of 5

This apartment was very lovely--super clean with nice amenities. We were all struck by the clever use of small spaces and we (a family of 4 with two teen boys) felt very comfortable in this flat. The location was great as well--with restaurants, pubs and grocery stores literally steps away. We found it an easy walk to the center of town--the "Royal Mile" or High street. The Fringe festival had just begun and it was so fun to see all the street performers and artists sharing their talents on the street. The people of Edinburgh were friendly and very helpful. James was very attentive in both correspondence via HomeAway and throughout our stay. Thank you so much for your wonderful hospitality, James. We enjoyed our stay very much, and we were so glad to have stayed in this Edinburgh flat! Our only regret is that we couldn't stay longer.

Edinburgh in style!

  • 5 of 5

Wow, we loved this beautifully appointed apartment in a great neighbourhood near the centre of the city. James the owner is very professional and thought of so many little details that were really nice, such as leaving us bottled water, cereal, milk and juice in the fridge to begin our stay. He greeted us in person upon arrival (after confirming a check-in time by text) and walked us through everything in the apartment and was accessible.

The apartment is clean and fresh, the decor is fantastic, and although not large, the apartment flows well. We are a family of 5 and fit perfectly (thanks to the bunk beds and pullout sofa bed).

The location is great as well. We parked the car for our entire stay and walked everywhere. We did hop on a bus which runs right past the apartment a few times to move the little ones, and a black cab as well, but it is only a 10 minute walk to the Royal Mile. There are numerous shops and restaurants right around the corner, which is very convenient.

It would have been nice to have a recycling bin available.

Overall, we were extremely happy with our stay and highly recommend James and his lovely apartment.

Thanks James!

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to leave such a great review and I'm glad that you enjoyed your stay with us. I've checked out the situation regarding the recycle bins and there is in fact a set of them on the corner of the opposite street just outside Starbucks. I'll make sure to add this to the welcome letter in future. Again, thank you for your review and hopefully we can welcome you back next time you are in Edinburgh.

Great Place -- stay here!

  • 5 of 5

The place was very nice and in a great location. James was also great, and honestly he helped make our stay that much more enjoyable. He was pleasant, and made sure we hit all the great tourist spots during our stay in Edinburgh. He made our check in and check out process very easy, and was in constant communication with us. His place was very well kept up, even down to the smallest details with wrapping the towels with a nice ribbon around them. I'll just say he seems to know what he's doing to make a guest feel welcome. His place was clean and the beds were comfortable -- we have absolutely nothing but good things to say about him or his place. You can trust him to help make your stay a great one! Thank you James for making our holiday and our stay in Edinburgh a good one! Lauren

Owner's Response: Just discovered I can reply to your really great and much appreciated review. I'm glad you enjoyed your stay with us and that I seem to have played a small part in that. We do try to make our guests' stay as memorable as possible and for all the right reasons, an egg we definitely seem to have cracked for your visit. Hopefully see you again next time you are in Edinburgh.

beste Lage und auch gut geschlafen

  • 5 of 5

Nice apartment for a short stay in Edinburgh

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at James' place for one night. We needed just one night in Edinburgh and James' apartment was one of the few available for the night.

James was really kind and hospitable. He explained everything we needed to know about his apartment and made our stay really easy.

The place is centrally located, with lots of restaurants and stores nearby. It is walking distance from the major sights. The house is clean and cozy, and James provided everything we needed for our stay there. I will definitely stay there if I go back to Edinburgh!

Location

Car: not necessary

Newington is one of the more vibrant areas of Edinburgh. Nicolson and South Clerk Streets have a real feel of an old town High Street, with lots of quirky, independent shops alongside the more recognisable High Street names.

Trip Advisor lists over 800 "Things to Do" in Edinburgh, from climbing the majestic Arthur's Seat to a more sedate stroll around the Royal Yacht Britannia, over 40 organised, sightseeing tours, 11 theatres, the historic fortress that is Edinburgh Castle, the 17th century underground city of Mary King's Close and unrivalled shopping pleasures of Princes Street and world class malls...there truly is something for everyone!

From the city centre (Waverley Station or St Andrew's Bus Station), #5 is easily reached by taxi, approximately £5. There are numerous Lothian buses from North Bridge, fare £1.50, and for the more energetic, #5 can be reached in about 20 minutes on foot by following North Bridge all the way up to St Patrick's Square, a straight road.
