The area is a paradise for walkers mountain bikers and hikers with 200 miles of coast line and the Southern Upland Way to explore which runs from Portpatrick in the west to Cockburnspath in the east. River salmon fishing is available on the River Nith. Golfers are spoilt for choice with the Royal Troon and Turnberry to the north and Sanquhar Thornhill and Southerness in the south. The vibrant city of Glasgow is only an hour away by train with its excellent shopping and leisure facilities and the beautiful city of Edinburgh is just a little further afield.
