A most attractive 3 bedroomed villa, situated in some 2 acres of unspoilt countryside, just 6km inland from Rethymno. Villa Aphrodite is a separate and isolated villa surrounded by old olive groves, oak trees and is reached via a winding country lane and then a long private drive. The living area of the villa is on one level and the interiors are simple, fresh and modern in style. The interior of the villa is open plan with pretty matching sofas, satellite TV, DVD, a Playstation 3, dining table and a well-equipped kitchen. There are three bathrooms (one is en suite in the main bedroom and it is suitable for people with special needs). There is also a third bathroom which is equipped with a Shower/WC. The entrance has pretty flower beds, twin patios and comfortable garden furniture. The garden is suitable for young kids since there is a small playground. There is ample outside dining area for those meals al-fresco and the brick build barbecue compliments this area. Stone steps lead down into the gardens, to a 40sqm swimming pool with children's pool and the raised pool terraces are equipped with sunbeds and sun umbrellas. The villa was renovated in 2015 and it is suitable for people with special needs.
There are a few local shops and tavernas in Prines where you can enjoy traditional meals. A car is essential.
Changeover day is flexible. The villa must be vacated by 11:30 am on departure day but can be flexible if available. Arrivals at 4pm.
I am an English teacher and the manager of two villas - Villa Artemis and Villa Aphrodite- in Prines village (Rethymno). Me and my family have run this business since 2003. We do our best to make our guests feel at home and satisfy their needs. All of us try hard to make our guests' holidays unforgettable!
We enjoyed our holidays at your villa very much! We had a wonderful time. Thanks for the greek food, fruits and vegetables. We liked tehm very much. Thank you for the gifts that will remind us the happy moments in Crete. We appreciate your hospitality.
Best wishes from, Heinz, Silvia, Daniel and Lukas
Amazing villa, lovely gardens and great location in hills above Rethymnon. Pool kept immaculately. Fantastic hospitality - family very welcoming and responsive to needs. Stella and parents really looked after us and took time to make us feel most welcome. Nice outdoor cooking facility and we used the charcoal grills and wood fired oven several times during out stays. Beautiful oak trees surround the garden inter spaced with olive groves that abound the property. You need a car at this location though. Some nice restaurants locally in Prines and great little bakery in nearby village of Atsipopoulos. Plenty supermarkets locally though not on Sunday's - will need to go into Rethymnon. Fantastic holiday. We love Crete
We arrived at the villa to the smell of homemade & warm moussaka which was a lovely touch. The villa was spotlessly clean and was cleaned regularly throughout our stay as was the pool, almost daily (very quietly at 7am so as not to interrupt or disturb any swimming time!). The family extended the friendliest welcome you could ever imagine putting themselves out to ensure our every need was catered for even when things arose during the holiday they would visit at short notice. We have never experienced such attentive, kind people who treat this not just as a business and you as a customer but treat you with the care they would their own family. I cannot emphasise enough what a wonderful stay we had due to their attention to detail and especially the kindness to my disabled son whose needs were more than met by the disabled facilities at the villa. I would highly recommend this beautiful villa to anyone wishing to visit. You won't find better.
When we started our villa search, we had a tough list of requirements to meet. We were looking for a villa where we could relax, somewhere where our 3 children could swim and play (and make a bit of noise without disturbing others), where we could enjoy the views and explore this beautiful island with relative ease. Villa Aphrodite was perfect! The location is quiet and private without feeling too isolated. It is a short drive to many of the islands beautiful beaches. The nearest tavernas, local shop and butcher are in Prines with a good bakery and larger stores in Astipopolou. It is also well located for Rethymnon with its pretty harbour and good selection of restaurants, shops and nightlife if needed. The villa is well equipped and there are different seating areas around the property, allowing you to eat and drink in the sun or the shade, depending on the mood. In the evening, it was as much fun to eat at the villa as it was to try the local tavernas and restaurants and we made good use of the pizza oven and the BBQs and really enjoyed the stunning sunsets. Stella and her lovely family are amazing hosts and made sure our stay was really special. The villa is spotlessly clean and the pool is cleaned daily before you wake up. We are very much looking forward to returning again next year.
Five of us spent 10 days in Villa Aphrodite - one 7 yr old, his parents and his grandparents and we all had a brilliant time. The villa was beautifully maintained and very well equipped. We visited the sister property Villa Artemis last year and had such a lovely time we decided we had to return.
Our 7 yr old LOVED the swimming pool and spent probably 6 hours a day in it. As parents the baby pool was a godsend as it meant he could happily splash around without one of us being in with him all the time.
We used the barbecue area a couple of times and also fired up the pizza oven which was great fun and cooked a pretty good pizza too!
Whilst the scenery is stunning and the villa is perfect the really special thing about both of these properties is Stella and her family. They take customer service to whole new level - food and drink when you arrive, presents throughout the stay and smiles that touch your heart. Such lovely people that I am delighted to have met and I know for sure I will meet again.
If we had to decide between the two properties we would probably choose Aphrodite for out next visit mostly because the layout worked well for our group and we preferred the pool.
A few tips:
Getting to the villa can be confusing but the directions are good and signage is reasonable - if your sense of direction is below average let them know and they will happily meet you in the village and show you the way.
We rented a car both years from Athens Cars at Heraklion Airport - They come highly recommended - not the newest of cars but a good price and really easy to deal with.
We very highly recommend The Olive restaurant in Prines. The owner Antonis is brilliant with children and spoils them rotten. The food is good and very well priced. For us The Olive is the better of the two restaurants in the village.
Beaches are a bit hit and miss - sandy beach and the waves were big or calm sea and pebbly beach. We liked Gerani Beach just outside Rethymno - a tiny shallow little cove popular with older greek people and tended to go there in the early morning before it got too hot and then went to the restaurant above for a huge Greek salad. Another favourite was the beach at Bali - again small but sandy and shallow and we had a good time snorkelling here. The only downside is it was very busy.
For shopping we did a big shop at Lidl in Rethymno then topped up in the smaller village shops throughout the week.
This house and it's gracious and lovely hostess made our stay in Crete more than we could have ever hoped for. We were greeted by a homemade moussaka, fresh fruit and raki which after a long day, was just so thoughtful and delicious. The house was so well appointed and had everything anyone might want or need. We never wanted to leave but we certainly will return.
There is nothing about this villa you won't love. The location is perfect, the setting is stunning with the most beautiful sunsets over the bay. The villa is very spacious with everything you need to have a wonderfully relaxing holiday. The pool and accommodation are immaculate, and Stella's family come to clean the entire villa regularly and to an amazing standard. The whole family made our experience of Crete so special, as they are the kindest and most generous people you could ever hope to meet. They made our holiday 100 times better than we could have hoped for. We were presented with the best Greek dishes upon our arrival and throughout our stay. A generous fridge full of more than just essentials made the very first moments a wonderful surprise. The garden and pool are perfect, and the sounds of birds and the local goats reminded us that we were in a perfectly rural position. It felt like we were visiting family and simply cannot wait to meet up with everyone again in June 2017. Thank you to Stella and your wonderful family for your 10 Star hospitality.
The region of Rethymno in Crete offers some of the most interesting and beautiful landscapes in Greece. Our villa Artemis is located in Prines, a picturesque village close to Rethymno. An area of outstanding natural beauty, the countryside lends itself to fascinating walks and mountain biking. The traditional village of Prines is just a few minutes stroll from our villa to find a local tavern and a mini-market. There are also local shops, bakery, butcher, cafes and chemist close to our villa. Within a 10 minute drive from Prines there are sandy beaches which offer good facilities. Situated in the middle of Crete, our villa provides an ideal base to explore Crete. Some interesting sights close to Rethymno are the monasteries of Arkadi and Preveli, Plakias, Lake Kournas, the natural springs of Argiroupolis, Episkopi and Georgioupolis beaches for beach lovers.
