About Linda Casey
Mark and I fell in love with South Carolina, after visiting my parents for the holidays. After that fateful trip, we've decided to build our future there—starting with our Saxony Lake house in Summerville, which also gave us our first adventure in Airbnb hosting! Soon after, we were renovating a 4-bedroom cottage in Charleston for future guests, and now are prepping to offer a 3-bedroom sanctuary in Summerville. When Mark and I aren't soaking in the South Carolina sun, I'm a magazine editor and Mark is a home inspector.

Darius Rucker, lead singer of the band Hootie and the Blowfish, and Stephen Colbert grew up in this Charleston neighborhood!
The West Ashley neighborhood in Charleston is noted as the birthplace of the city because English colonists established the first permanent settlement in the Carolina colony there in 1670. Local Native Americans (the Kiawah Indians) led colonists from the ship Carolina to a suitable settling ground. This 663-acre settlement area along the banks of the Ashley River, in the West Ashley neighborhood, is now a state historic site known as Charles Towne Landing, which features gardens and a reproduction 17th century sailboat among other historical and educational amenities.
Neighborhood attractions include Magnolia Plantation and Gardens, which has a website at (Website hidden by Airbnb) and Ashley Hall Plantation. They are also listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
A big thank you to Wikipedia for the cool neighborhood facts!
There is limited free off-street parking (one-car driveway). Charleston also has plenty of Lyft and Uber drivers in addition to taxi service. Public transportation is primarily bus service, as much of the area is very close to sea level, and is served by CARTA (Charleston Area Regional Transportation Authority).
