Description

Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday cottage in Broadway - Cotswolds Thatched Cottage

Delightful thatched cottage with 3 bedrooms, private garden close to High Street

A wonderful opportunity to experience archetypal English cottage living in beautiful Broadway. This lovely 400 year old thatched cottage, is presented to a very high standard and is peacefully located in the stunning Cotswolds village of Broadway, which is often referred to as the 'jewel of the Cotswold' and the 'show village of England'. Broadway is well known for its excellent art galleries, antique and modern furniture stores such as OKA which is set in a beautiful Georgian House on the High Street and let's not forget all the wonderful restaurants, cafe's, deli's, pubs and gift shops.

The village is also perfectly placed for exploring the many beautiful towns and villages of the Cotswolds, as well as Stratford-upon-Avon, the birthplace of William Shakespeare and the royal spa town of Cheltenham which is great for theatre and retail therapy. Chipping Campden, Moreton-in-Marsh and Stow-on-the-Wold are all a short drive away.

Additionally, the Cottage is moments from the Cotswold Way which is a 102-mile (164 km) long-distance footpath, running along the Cotswold Edge escarpment of the Cotswold Hills in England.

A legacy of the Broadway Artists' Colony is that the village has several of the country's best art galleries. There are also a number of restaurants, pubs and tea shops, as well as a range of gift and clothes shops. Relaxation, retail therapy and good food and drink make Broadway a very popular place to stay and visit throughout the year.

The Vale of Evesham is the fruit and vegetable basket of England and has for many centuries supported a number of communities that have thrived on its fertile soil. Drained by the River Avon and with the town of Evesham as its centre, the Vale includes land in south Worcestershire, south Warwickshire and north Gloucestershire.

The Cotswolds are a range of hills in west-central England, sometimes called the 'Heart of England'. The name Cotswold means 'sheep enclosure in rolling hillsides'.The area is defined by the bedrock of Jurassic limestone that creates a type of grassland habitat rare in the UK and that is quarried for the golden coloured Cotswold stone. It contains unique features derived from the use of this mineral; the predominantly rural landscape contains beautiful stone-built villages, historical towns and stately homes and gardens.

In the Middle Ages the wool trade made the Cotswolds prosperous and some of this money was put into the building of churches, leaving the area with a number of large handsome Cotswold stone 'wool churches'. The area remains affluent, which has encouraged the establishment of many high quality pubs, restaurants and antique shops.

Cotswold towns include Bourton-on-the-Water, Broadway, Burford, Chipping Norton, Cirencester, Moreton-in-Marsh, Northleach, Stow-on-the-Wold, Stroud and Winchcombe. The town of Chipping Campden is notable for being the home of the Arts and Crafts movement, founded by William Morris at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries. William Morris lived occasionally in Broadway Tower, a folly, now part of a country park. Chipping Campden is also known for the annual Cotswold Olympic Games, a celebration of sports and games dating back to the early 17th century.

Broadway has a number of places to eat and drink, with a range of cuisines and prices to suit most tastes and budgets. The list below is a sample of the options available:

•Russell's;

•The Lygon Arms;

•The Potting Shed

•The Swan

Wider area:

There are also many traditional pubs located in the lovely villages throughout the Vale of Evesham and the North Cotswolds.

About Elizabeth

Originally from Australia. Now residing in London.

Elizabeth purchased this cottage in 2015

Why Elizabeth chose Wychavon

I am actually new to the Cotswolds, having heard of it yes, but never dedicating the time to explore it, perhaps because it was a bit too close to London for me to appreciate it. That is until I took my partner their for his birthday last year. My gosh, it is beautiful, actually the scenery, countryside and homes are stunning. My Aunty said it is just how she imagined England would would look like - well, The Cotswolds fulfills that image. I came across this thatched cottage and immediately fell in love with it and with Broadway. I hope you love it as much as I do including watching the entertaining sheep that graze and stand on their hind legs reaching the leaves from the large tree that's right in front of the cottage windows or perhaps you will enjoy the sound or horses trotting by. Enjoy!

What makes this cottage unique

Here's a chance to stay in a chocolate box English thatched cottage that's full of character, history, space and light. Almost every single room has windows front and back therefore affording great views, the surrounding area is verdant with mellow sloping hills and lovely sheep to appreciate. The house is light with a private fenced garden. There's parking too! Oh and you can leave your car at the cottage and just walk to the pub!

Fantastic architecture with original doors, latches, windows and beams. A sense of stepping back in time whilst being a short walk to the vibrant High St.

Beautiful, picturesque and fabulous location.

  • 5 of 5

I stayed at 1 Pye Corner Cottage with a group of school friends (we are in our 50's now). It couldn't have been more perfect. The cottage is beautifully located with stunning views all around. The location is perfect - only a 10 minute walk into Broadway. The interior of the cottage has been done very tastefully and comfortably. It was spotless and very well maintained. Broadway itself is stunning and we found plenty to do in the way of shopping and eating! Great places to eat are The Swan pub and Broadway Hotel. We would definitely stay there again.

Stunning cottage, beautiful touches, top location

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Pye Cottage as a group of friends in mid-February. We arrived late at night and, even in the darkness, were so impressed by how beautiful the cottage is - it is much larger than the photos do justice to and is absolutely so sweet and quaint. The interior has a perfect mix of modern fixtures (excellent, large kitchen with all mod cons, good bathroom, handy shower room), as well as lovely design touches that really do justice to the space. It feels like staying in a boutique hotel - cosy but with excellent design. The open plan living room has super comfy sofas and is a great space to relax with friends.

The location is perfect - a short walk into Broadway but just far enough out to feel you are really in the Cotswold country. There is also a big garden in the back, which I'm sure would be wonderful in spring.

We had an excellent stay and plan to return. Thanks Elizabeth for a wonderful trip! One of our favourite rentals in the UK!

This place is sumptuous!

  • 5 of 5

After a day spent sampling the delights of Broadway, the jewel of the Cotswolds, what better place to spend the night than this! Truly sensational. We loved the decor and comfort level and could drink our sundowners in the private back garden. It's clean and well maintained. The informative owner tells me the whole interior was recently refurbished. This is a great find, close to the restaurants and pubs of Broadway, yet sufficiently off the beaten track down a country lane with fantastic views front and back. Plenty of things to do locally: Broadway tower, Cotswold Way, golf, spa at the Lygon Arms, antiques, etc. We couldn't recommend it more if you're looking for a Mr and Mrs Smith-style retreat in the heart of outstanding natural beauty!
