Clean and Comfortable

  • 4 of 5

A very nice property in a delightful area. Enjoyed our stay in Barnard Castle, there is lots to do, Bowes Museum and the Castle are both worth visiting. A good range of local shops and places to eat. Mr & Mrs Hanby made us very welcome.

Lovely Cottage in the middle of Barnard Castle

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was very clean, with plenty of space and equipped with everything you need for a holiday. It is situated in the centre of Barnard Castle within walking distance to the town. Pauline and Michael are lovely hosts, you are met on arrival and a welcome pack is provided which is very nice.

Central, comfortable and accessable to Durham and Cumbria

  • 5 of 5

Great place to stay with very friendly Hosts. This place is convenient for visiting the Lake District, and the East coast (HMS Trincomalee is a must). A very comfortable, well set up cottage. Walking distance to some excellent sites in Barnard Castle and well placed for the markets. Loved our holiday in this area and Wood Street Cottage just made things so much easier.

Excellent all round experience

  • 5 of 5

We were made very welcome to this superbly appointed, faultlessly clean and well serviced cottage just minutes from the town with lots of information regarding the walks & attractions that are so easily accessed - many without needing to drive. We are in the process of booking again for next year - the visitor book suggests many are similarly impressed and make return visits.

Comfortable, clean and well equipped cottage.

  • 5 of 5

Lovely comfortable spotlessly clean cottage. Everything you could need provided plus so many thoughtful extras. Superb central location in a very quiet street with the bonus of parking. Our third time here and we have no doubt we will be returning.

Superbly presented house in a lovely town

  • 5 of 5

Wood Street Cottage is one of the best holiday lets we have stayed in. It is very well equipped and spotlessly clean. We had a very warm welcome from Pauline (who makes very nice flapjacks!).

The kitchen/diner is spacious and has everything you need, even down to washing powder. The lounge is comfortable and the TV etc. very good.

The main bedroom is very large, with a massive wardrobe, the bathroom is very good, too. Didn't use the second bedroom, so can't comment.

The location is strange at first, if you aren't used to the ins-and-outs of an old Northern market town, but it is actually in a great position for nipping through to the main shopping street, and also walkable to The Bowes Museum (less than 5 minutes away).

There are also walks from the cottage (Pauline provides a pile of walks leaflets, among other tourist information).
