Mürren, a village rich in tradition,:
Illustrated in many historic photographs, the fascinating history of the beautiful Lauterbrunnen Valley, where the resorts of Murren and Wengen still reflect the former influence of early British tourism. Among the first enthusiastic visitors to the Lauterbrunnen Valley were such great names as Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Lord Byron, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy. Mürren is regarded as the cradle of Alpine Ski Sport and the modern slalom was also born here, devised by Sir Arnold Lunn.
Read about the construction of impressive mountain railways, and their significant role in the development of the valley. Read interesting and amusing anecdotes from the biographies of such important personalities as Ernst Gertsch, the 'Father of the Lauberhorn Downhill Ski Race'.
Ice sports and tobogganing: The two artificial ice-rinks at the Alpine Sports Center in Mürren are perfect for ice skating.
Tobogganing, as seen here on the fantastic forest run from Sulwald to Isenfluh, has a long tradition in the area. The familiar wooden toboggans are still often used as a means of transport on snow covered village streets and paths.
Tobogganing remains a great favourite with all age groups.Toboggans and bobs can be hired at local sports shops.
CURLING - take time to try your hand at this traditional wintersport.
ICE SKATING _ A openair ice-rink is always available (entrance free) in Murren
Winter walking: The villages of Mürren, Wengen,Lauterbrunnen, Gimmelwald, Stechelberg and Isenfluh all belong to a sunny winter walking wonderland, with well maintained trails through stunning Alpine scenery.
Winter-walk to impressive vantage points or to the inviting terrace of a mountain hotel. Even fanatical skiers should leave their skis behind for once and discover the delights of one of the beautiful winter walking paths!
Absolutely marvellous! We loved everything, weather was perfect snow brilliant ,the apartment was home from home!
The children were spoilt with all the audio-visual items.
We had a superb week in this chalet. Lovely views, great location- everything close by but no noises to be heard. After a day out in the cold it was always a pleasure to return to our little "home".
The property was very stylish, clean, well maintained and we found everything we needed in the well-equipped kitchen. What a bliss!
...we will DEFINITELY come back....
Spent two weeks in Le Petit Chalet last week of Jan, first week of Feb 2010. Lovely, warm, cozy, close to all amenities. Perfect break from our busy lives. Well maintained, clean, quiet, just absolutely perfect. We're going back this year, we just loved it so much. Lovely decks; we had a few picnics on the decks, eating steaming hot pasta while the snow drifted down around us. Would recommend it to anyone looking to get away from it all and just enjoy family time, reading, skiing, playing in the snow and eating and drinking well. Can't wait to go back!
A designer's Chalet facing the big three of the northern Alps, le Petit Chalet is a flawless place for a week or more vacation in winter or summer (we tried both seasons with our 2 daughters). Skiing down the Schiltorn facing the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau is quite exhilarating. Mürren is a charming and gemütlich authentic Swiss village and a very serious ski resort. In turn, le Petit Chalet is a hype yet warm retreat for the after ski or hike.
We shall return soon.
We had a wonderful week this summer in the Petit Chalet - 3 adults and 2 children. It is well situated in Murren - close to all amenities - and extremely well equipped. the property lived up to our expectations and the description on the website. My concern is that the high quality finish might suffer from the number of visitors it will welcome over the summer and winter months, which would be a shame. We would recommend it as an excellent location for Alpine hiking.
Clean and tidy, great location within the village (right in the middle) for walking hols, ok price.
Fantastic views of Eiger from window and Monch & Jungfrau from a bit higher up the Schilthorn. New(ish) Allmenhubel lift is great too.
Ideal for 2 people with plenty of space .. might be cramped for four or more adults. 2 adults with 2 young kids would probably work well though
Lots of IT stuff and huge telly with plenty of dvds & good surround sound. Bedrooms small but functional
Wash machine & tumble dryer both new(ish) and good, dishwasher oldish and passable. Bring a hair dryer !
Muerren is an excellent base place for a novice walker wanting to see the alps and have some great walks & views
Mürren (1650 m) - a marvellous mountain village, public car free, rich in tradition in the Valais.Perched on a high, sunny terrace facing the famous Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau, the village is the highest altitude ski resort in the Bernese Oberland. It nestles at the foot of the Schilthorn with its revolving Piz Gloria Restaurant, made world-famous by a James Bond film.
In summer, Mürren is the perfect place from which to start a host of hikes, from simple to strenuous.
You can reach Mürren from Lauterbrunnen by mountain railway (BLM) or from Stechelberg by aerial cableway (LSMS)
