Quaint End is a beautiful, traditional Cotswold stone cottage, dating back to approximately 1840. The cottage is in the lovely, unspoilt North Cotswolds village of Ebrington and is peacefully located on a quiet lane, at the end of a row of three cottages. Ebrington is well known for its award winning local pub, the Ebrington Arms, and is approximately two miles away from the famous market town of Chipping Campden. Numerous lovely walks can be taken directly from the cottage and all the well known market towns and villages of the North Cotswolds are within easy reach, as are other attractions, such as Stratford-upon-Avon, Oxford and Blenheim Palace.

The cottage was fully refurbished in 2015, with contemporary decor mixing seamlessly with the traditional Cotswold character, which includes oak beams, flagstone floors, an Aga and a Clearview wood burning stove in the kitchen/dining room, an open fire in the living room, and an old well in the garden. The character of the cottage is complemented by its modern facilities, including wireless internet access, three flatscreen TVs, a Fired Earth bathroom and a beautiful handmade oak kitchen.

Quaint End sleeps a maximum of four people, in two bedrooms, with a family bathroom and a ground floor cloakroom. There is a delightful enclosed south west garden, with lovely views across the village to the church, and off-street parking for one car. The cottage is perfect for a family or friends seeking peace and quiet, in a lovely village, yet within easy access of the beautiful towns, villages and countryside of the Cotswolds.

House Rules

Booking and payment

Character Cottages is a marketing agency and we do not own or manage any of the cottages listed on our website. Bookings made via us form a legal agreement directly between you and the property owner.

For bookings commencing more than 10 weeks in advance, a 30% non-refundable deposit is required to confirm the booking. The balance payment is then due 10 weeks prior to arrival.

All payments are made subject to the cancellation policy set out in the standard Booking Conditions.

Security deposits

Security deposits are not required (please note that guests are still liable for any damage or additional cleaning required as a result of their actions).

The maximum occupancy of the property is four guests, at any point during your stay. Unauthorised over occupancy is a breach of our terms and conditions and may result in the cancellation of your booking and additional charges. Please consult us prior to booking if you wish to discuss the possibility of having more than four guests at the property.

Infants who sleep in a cot do not count towards the occupancy figure, however, due to space restrictions, the occupancy figure may only be exceeded by up to two additional infants.

Up to two medium sized dogs are accepted, at a cost of £20 per booking slot per dog.

For the comfort of future guests, we ask that dogs do not go in bedrooms, stay off the furniture and that no trace of a dog remains after your departure. Due to the right of way in the garden, dogs should be kept under control outside at all times.

Bed linen and towels

Bed linen and towels are provided for guests.

Arrival and departure times

Arrival time is after 3pm and departure time is by 10am. Access is via a key safe, therefore it does not matter if you are arriving late at night.

Bed sizes and configurations

Bedroom 1: King size bed

Bedroom 2: Super king size bed or 2 x single beds

Family bathroom: Bath, walk-in shower, toilet, wash basin, underfloor heating and heated towel rail

Ground floor cloakroom: Toilet and hand basin

Heating, fuel and logs

The property has a gas central heating system.

Electricity and gas are included in the rental price. There is a wood burning stove on the ground floor and an open fire in the first floor living room, with logs provided under a fair usage policy (there is an honesty box for contributions towards the cost of logs used). Please note that free logs are normally available, but, on occasion, there may be situations when the previous guests have used up all the logs and the log supply cannot be replenished immediately.

Services provided

The property has free wireless internet access and two TVs, one with a DVD player.

There is no telephone at the property. Mobile phone reception is generally OK outside the property, however, it can be variable inside, typically being better towards the top of the cottage.

The property has off-street parking for one car, however the parking is accessed via a very narrow lane and guests may prefer to park on the street, close to the cottage.

Guests should be aware that the two neighbouring properties have allocated parking spaces within the enclosed garden of Quaint End. This is particularly relevant to guests with children or pets, as the neighbours have the right to access the garden at any time, which could result in the gate being accidentally left open. There is a short lane between the gate and the road, however children and pets should be supervised in the garden at all times.

Where a letting exceeds nine nights, a mid-stay clean, bed linen and towel change may be included in the price. Please check with us to confirm. Additional housekeeping services may be available on request.

Child friendly facilities

A travel cot (without linen) and a high chair are provided. The property's garden is enclosed, however please see the parking notes above.

Parents with young children should note that the Aga in the kitchen remains on all the time, so it will always be hot to touch.

Initial consumables

A small quantity of initial consumables is provided for your convenience (eg. tea, coffee, sugar, dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid, soap, washing powder, toilet rolls, etc), however, you should not expect the quantity of these provisions to be sufficient for the duration of your stay.

Accessibility, health and safety

This is an old property and has many character features, including very narrow and steep stairs from the first to the second floor, low bedroom doorways, and multiple floors, which could pose difficulty to guests with limited mobility, or carrying babies, both in terms of their general movement and their ability to quickly exit the house in the event of an emergency.

The smoke and CO detectors operate on a sound only basis and, therefore, those who have serious impairment of hearing may not be able to hear the alarm systems and could be at risk.

No smoking is permitted throughout the property.

In order to provide you with as much detail of our properties as possible, we sometimes use wide angle photography, which can make certain rooms, or spaces, appear larger than they actually are. Wherever possible, we try to include a floorplan, with detailed dimensions of rooms and areas.

If you have any queries regarding the size of any rooms or spaces, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Lovely cottage, so nearly five stars.

  • 4 of 5

We loved the cottage and it's position in the village, split over three floors, the accommodation and furnishing were of a high quality and worth the fee for the week we spent there. On arrival, the place was boiling hot, not just due to the July heatwave, but the always-on AGA cooker.. Windows were flung open and stayed that way all week. The neighbours were very friendly which is a relief as they get a new neighbours moving in/out on a weekly basis, they must be used to it by now! Can recommend the village pub for food and beer, also it's worth going to Chipping Campden for the array of good restaurants. There were downsides, mostly due to a lack of upkeep and cleaning. It was unsurprising that few people filled in the guest book, which may be like us, because the previous issues raised there had not been attended to. The main issues were the lack of cleanliness; not much above waist height has been dusted, and spiders and their webs are everywhere. Thick dust in the bathroom, mould growing in the terrazzo shower tiles, leaky door, the sink hot tap is loose as it turns the wrong way (its a cold tap valve with a hot tap handle). Many light bulbs didn't work, so we had to swap around the few spares that were provided to get adequate lighting. The smart Roberts radio in the kitchen didn't work, the salad spinner is broken, the referred to in the welcome book 'How to cook on an AGA' book is missing. the recycling regime and availability of blue/white bags needs resolving (Monday is Bin day BTW - all bins). One of the kitchen wall outlets were faulty, haphazard extension leads, untidy cables are everywhere. There's nothing to sharpen a knife in the kitchen, so chopping is hazardous. Finally, nearly every window opener is loose/falling off, I had to retrieve dislodged screws from the window cill. As a landlord myself, I would recommend that the owners need to spend a couple of weeks living there and rectify the issues, then it would be perfect again!

Great property, great location, comfortable stay

  • 4 of 5

We loved this place. It’s in a great location for visiting local attractions. It feels homely and inviting. We loved the views, especially from the lovely living room and bathroom.

The only downsides were that it’s split over three levels so the bathroom is on a different level to the bedroom, but it wasn’t a huge issue. Also, more garden furniture would be nice so it’s more comfortable to eat/have a drink outside and enjoy the view.

The Cotswolds are a range of hills in west-central England, sometimes called the "Heart of England". The name Cotswold means "sheep enclosure in rolling hillsides".

The Cotswolds are characterised by attractive small towns and villages, built of the underlying Cotswold stone (a yellow oolitic limestone). In the Middle Ages the wool trade made the Cotswolds prosperous and some of this money was put into the building of churches, leaving the area with a number of large handsome Cotswold stone "wool churches". The area remains affluent, which has encouraged the establishment of many high quality pubs, restaurants and antique shops.

Car: Ebrington is easily accessed by car, being located within five miles of both the A44 and the A429 (Fosse Way), which are two of the main roads through the North Cotswolds.

Train: The nearest railway station to Ebrington is Moreton-in-Marsh (approximately seven miles away), which has regular, direct services to London Paddington, with a typical journey time of approximately ninety minutes.

Plane: Birmingham International Airport: 40 miles, approximately 60 minute drive; Heathrow International Airport: 80 miles, approximately 100 minute drive; Bristol International Airport: 76 miles, approximately 100 minute drive.
