Disappointing summer rental with no summer views.

  • 1 of 5

We are experienced Home Away renters, and this house missed the mark completely. It was pretty small for a 4 bedroom, and the downstairs full bed mattress was unsleepable because you could feel the springs. There was only one shower in the house with no ventilation fan in that bathroom and there was black mold on that ceiling because it was not ventilated. I tried contacting the owner about this, but she didn’t respond to my email. I didn’t realize there was no WiFi in the house, so that’s my fault. The write up states it sleeps 8, and yet there’s a sign on the slider to the deck stating no more than 6 people should be out on the deck. There was also no table on the deck, as was stated in the write up, and the grill was falling apart. The owner emailed a couple of days before our arrival to give directions which said “drive into the 2 car garage” which was impossible because the doors had broken glass panes and logs lying in front of the doors. There were also 26 stairs leading down to the house, which I didn’t realize ahead of time (although the write up does say it’s not handicap accessible). Oh and there were Christmas decorations around the house in late July. The location was good—10 minutes to town and 10 minutes to the horse show.

Owner's Response: This renter contacted me several times during her stay and I even spoke with her, and her concerns were dealt with, including a burnt out light bulb. Some of what she has written here was not mentioned previously and will be attended to. There are some larger projects that could not be remedied before the spring/summer renters arrived from a very harsh winter i.e. garage and deck. I have a few Christmas items in my Vermont home as well as my permanent home as a reminder that the Spirit of the Season should be celebrated all year long not just once a year. As I explained to the renter, there is no wi-fi because I am not willing to cut down the required trees to have it. To me, Vermont is a place to block out the rest of the world and replenish one's Soul.

Perfect getaway

  • 5 of 5

What a cozy house with unbelievable views from the deck. Well equipped for a ski weekends away for a family of 4 and 2 dogs. Defrosting by the fireplace was a treat after a day on the slopes, makes us want to move to the countryside. Ps the stars at night are unbelievable.

COZY + CHARMING

  • 5 of 5

Our group of 8 (4 adults + 2 kids) + 2 dogs really enjoyed our stay -- especially the roaring fire in the fireplace. The living area is somewhat small for larger groups, but we were quite cozy -- plus the 4 decent-sized bedrooms left everyone plenty of space. The price was very reasonable considering it was the holidays -- likely because it is a little bit of a drive to the mountains (25 min to bromley and closer to 35 to Stratton for us), but we didn't mind the drive -- it's a really beautiful area. Manchester is just about a 12-minute drive -- definitely recommend a visit to their local book store! One last thing -- when we arrived, the hot water was out, but the plumber was already on his way. And when I had a couple questions upon arrival, the homeowner got back to me right away. Overall, a really lovely few days.

Close enough but far enough away!

Great setting- cozy and quiet but. Minutes from the Vermont Summer Festival grounds and Manchester shopping and restaurants but secluded and quiet at night

Great house, super close to the horse show!

Overall very good experience! Excellent location for the horse show. If you drive a truck it's a bit tough getting in and out but the distance and convience is worth it.

Cozy and quaint winter vacation home

  • 4 of 5

Our group of 6 adults and two children very much enjoyed our stay over the NYE weekend. The fireplace is a great feature! We made friends with the neighbor's dogs while sledding down the driveway. I would be remiss not to mention that the upstairs does't appear to get heat as well as the rest of the house. We were lucky enough to get some snow during our visit and we capitalized on our proximity to Taylor Farms to go for a horse-drawn sleigh ride under the stars. Would definitely visit again!
