Overview

About the property

Charming 2 bedroom barn cottage in rural village location. Glorious countryside.

OUR WEEKS AND SHORT BREAKS (3 night stay) AT DAIRY YARD COTTAGE ARE SOLD AS FIXED PRICE SEASONAL BOOKING SLOTS AND ARE NOT NECESSARILY AUTOMATICALLY CALCULATED USING NIGHTLY RATES.

Dairy Yard Cottage forms part of a listed stone barn, dating back to the eighteenth century, which has been sympathetically renovated, retaining many of the period features and character of the original farm building, such as flagstone floor, beamed ceilings and exposed timbers. Carefully restored, well appointed and decorated in a classic, country style with neutral colours, sea grass floor coverings etc., it provides a delightful, comfortable base in a peaceful rural setting from which to discover the Cotswolds. An ideal retreat for a couple, friends or a small family.

Spread over two floors, the entrance hall, with cloakroom, leads through to a light, airy, reception room with plenty of space for both relaxing and dining. Fitted kitchen. An easy rise staircase opens onto a spacious landing, two pretty bedrooms and a bathroom. Bedroom 1 is a double whereas Bedroom 2 is a twin bedded room. The bathroom has a fitted shower over the bath. There is plenty of off street parking directly outside the cottage. Set within the grounds of Home Farm, a classic Cotswold stone farmhouse, there is plenty of space to enjoy the tranquility of the pretty gardens and take in the quiet, unspoilt scenery.

A fabulous cozy base

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely 6 days here. The barn is ideally situated and has everything you would need. The kitchen is perfect for breakfast and the odd light supper but it's not a place you'd want to cook every day. The barn is on a beautiful farm and the owners are a delight. My children particularly loved their friendly labradors and the roaming chicken. If I had to be critical of one thing it's the bedding - the pillows and duvet (not the linens) - could definitely do with replacing. In the meantime if you like feather not foam, I'd say bring your own.

Owner's Response: Many thanks for your positive review and kind words - I am thrilled you had a good time and that the boys enjoyed the space to run around and play with the animals. You certainly found lots of places to visit in the area, I only wish we could have organised a little better weather for your stay - it had been glorious the previous week. I have taken on board your comments regarding the pillows and duvets - not something that has been raised before, but I will look into alternatives to replace them with. I hope you have left a few places to explore in the area and will visit us again. Best wishes

Beautiful, peaceful retreat

  • 5 of 5

We spent a lovely week in the cottage at the beginning of June, the weather let us down but that didn't matter at all. The cottage itself is beautifully set out, and all the essentials were there (including a welcome bottle of wine, much appreciated!). I had packed washing up liquid, bin bags etc but completely unnecessary as Sally-Anne had provided everything. Our 3 year old loved playing with the very friendly resident dogs (and cats and a chicken!) and when the weather stopped us from playing outside, there were a good selection of toys and books provided to keep her entertained.

The cottage is well located for trips out (Cotswolds Farm Park, Cheltenham, the old steam railway, National Trust properties at Snowshill to name a few all within a short drive), as well as lovely walks and cycle rides from the property itself. One of the routes provided in the welcome folder takes you through Guiting Power, and we recommend the Halfway House for a lovely roast.

All in all, a beautiful cottage in a beautiful area with lovely owners. Thank you for a fab stay and we will be back! Adele, Jim and Georgia

Absolutely gutted to leave!

  • 5 of 5

My friend and I have been home for a week and have spent the whole day saying 'I wish it was this time last week' we had the most wonderful few days in the cottage, which was absolutely lovely. The area is lovely and the local pub is adorable with great food. The cottage and it's grounds are fantastic, we were greeted by Sally-Anne and her animal friends! The cottage itself has everything you need...I had taken everything from towels to fairy liquid to bin bags with me but Sally-Anne kindly supplied them all. Will 100% be staying here again very soon. :) ******

Lovely cottage stay in a lovely environment

  • 5 of 5

We've spent a week in this lovely cottage, which is spacious, well organised, very cosy and surrounded by a beautiful garden. The cottage is very well centered in the Cotswolds area and is therefore a perfect base to explore the region. The most enchanting villages are located within a 30 minutes drive, which is a very nice advantage. The owners of the cottage are very warm people who are willing to help you with any issue. Another advantage is the village pub which is - as already mentioned before - only a very short walk away. When you come back from a day exploring, it is nice to know that you can have a drink or meal overthere. Recommended place to stay, lovely!

The Cotswolds are considered to rank amongst the most beautiful areas in England and have been designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty since the 1960's.

An enchanting landscape typified by vast expanses of open countryside, ancient woodland and winding river valleys, the area has a history steeped in farming. Sheep dotting the rolling hillsides, dry stone walls, cattle grazing lush meadows and the mellow limestone of the buildings combine to create the classic Cotswold image.

The wealth generated by the high price Cotswold wool commanded, during the medieval period, enabled prosperous traders to leave their mark by building fine houses and wonderful churches, known as 'wool churches' and the stunning landscape is interspersed with bustling market towns and quaint, sleepy villages.

Kineton, a small, rural settlement in the North Cotswolds, has several approaches along winding lanes and through fords. It has a small number of dwellings and a welcoming country pub with log fire, locally brewed beer and wholesome food. The village is situated in a delightful tract of open countryside in the upper reaches of the Windrush valley. Surrounded by hills, woodland, and farmland there is plenty of wildlife to spot and the glorious scenery can be further discovered via an extensive network of footpaths.

Kineton is little more than a hamlet but is a mile distant from the slightly larger villages of Guiting Power and Temple Guiting, with several pubs, two churches, village shop and tea room, school, grocery, bakery and coffee shop/post office between them.

Barely a couple of miles from The Cotswold Farm Park (Adam's Farm - BBC1's Countryfile) this is a hugely enjoyable place to visit, especially in the springtime when lambs, piglets and other young animals are being born.

For more exotic animals - the Cotswold Wildlife Park is a great day out for children.

Stow-on-the-Wold, a quintessential English market town and historic meeting place, with its famous antique shops, galleries, pubs, tea shops, bistro and restaurants, is within 15 minutes.

Picturesque Broadway, Chipping Campden, Moreton-in-Marsh, Northleach and Bourton-on-the-Water are close by whilst the ever popular Burford and Cirencester are also an easy drive.

The Regency spa town of Cheltenham, and its popular racecourse, is within 30 minutes drive. Oxford is 45 minutes, with fascinating architecture, college courtyards and skyline of spires and Stratford-on-Avon, with the attractions of the river Avon, Shakespeare's birthplace and the RSC is 35 minutes.

There are numerous stately homes, historic sites and buildings and National Trust properties worth visiting including Blenheim Palace, Sudeley Castle, Chastleton House, Warwick Castle, Snowshill Manor, Broadway Tower and Chedworth Roman Villa.

Inspirational gardens can be found at Hidcote Manor, Kifsgate, and Painswick Rococo and a glorious arboretum at Batsford and Westonbirt.

A visit to the GWR Steam Railway at Toddington is also a fascinating nostalgia trip.
