About Phil Brewster
Despite this not being our primary residence, my partner & I love the Dales, and escape here as often as work allows. But as we can't be here all the time we don't see why others shouldn't enjoy the use of such a lovely property, in such a gorgeous setting. We've just had lots of work done to refurbish much of the property, including new carpets & a newly-fitted kitchen with all mod-cons. We aim to make your stay as enjoyable and as hassle-free as possible. And hope that at the end of your stay you'll feel like you don't want to leave.
Why Phil Brewster chose Hawes
Quite simply you'll be staying in one of the most beautiful parts of the country. Not only are you right in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, but it's the perfect base from which to explore the whole of Dales. If you like walking, there are literally dozens you can choose - from gentle riverside strolls to hikes over windswept moors. If you like visiting attractions the choice is extensive - from arboretums, museums & castles, to the world-famous Wensleydale cheese-making creamery & Hardraw waterfall.

Short break in beautiful location
A very well equipped cottage on a peaceful no-through road. Beautiful views from back garden.
Wonderfully clean and well-equipped. Patio at the front with seats for breakfast in the sun and patio with table and chairs at the back for relaxing and eating later in the day. The views at the back were particularly lovely. The bedrooms were excellent and I couldn't get over the size of the bed in the main bedroom! Beautiful setting and easy walks to waterfalls.
We really enjoyed it
Quiet typical Dale Cottage
Nice quiet location with no through traffic. Typical Dale’s views from the house. It is extremely well equipped, clean and organised.
Plentiful fuel was provided for the wood burning stove. The kitchen was modern and full of equipment accompanied by clear usage instructions. Great location with many attractions nearby. All in all an excellent place from which to explore this lovely area of the Dales.
A luxury holiday home with stunning views.
This is a gorgeous holiday house in a quiet location with quintessential Dales views. There were walks from the door or just relax in the garden and watch sheep and listen to curlews. It was close to Aysgarth Falls, Bolton Castle, The Dales Way. Aysgarth Rock Garden and West Burton waterfalls are worth seeking out.
Hello Neil. Thank you for your kind review. So pleased you enjoyed your stay. Sounds like you enjoyed some nice rest & relaxation, as well as exploring the local neighbourhood. If you come back to the Dales again. we'd love to have you back! Kind regards - Phil
The cottage is lovely in a really nice quiet pretty setting. There is a pub within walking distance which serves good food and plenty to see and do within a short drive. We managed a couple of castles, caves, several waterfalls, the cheese factory, the dales museum, the rope makers and a brewery. Something for everyone. Would love to go back and would recommend to anyone.
Wow, you packed a lot in, in just a few days! I wonder how much cheese you brought back from the Creamery? 🤔 😂
I'm delighted you all enjoyed your stay, and that everything was to your satisfaction. If you do return to the Dales, we'd love to have you come back and stay again.
Once again, thanks for booking Westbrook House.
Best wishes - Phil
Lovely cottage in a truly beautiful setting
I enjoyed a 3 night stay over the Easter weekend, along with my husband and our two young sons. The sun shone throughout our stay, which made our time there even more enjoyable. The cottage had everything we needed during our stay. It’s a real home from home. We slept wonderfully each night in the comfortable beds and the views from the cottage were to die for. Communication with Phil was excellent throughout. The Yorkshire Dales are gorgeous and we wished we could have stayed longer. (We did try, but unfortunately more guests were due to arrive on the day of our departure!) We will definitely return to the area and wouldn’t hesitate if we had the chance to stay at Westbrook House again. Thank you for a lovely Easter break!
Hello Helen - thank you for your lovely review. I’m glad you all had a great time & were blessed with such nice weather! It’s nice too to hear you found the cottage comfy & equipped with everything you needed. If you are back in the Dales again, please feel free to get in touch - we’d love to have you back 😀 - kind regards, Phil
The nearest airports are Teeside, Newcastle, or Leeds-Bradford airport. To fully enjoy the surrounding countryside & all it has to offer you WILL need a vehicle as public transport is limited and does not stop at every small village & town.
The nearest pub to Newbiggin is 400 yards away. The villages of Thoralby (1 mile away) & West Burton (2 miles away) both have a shop and pub. The nearest petrol station is 2 miles away in Aysgarth. Slightly further afield are the market towns of Leyburn & Hawes (approx 8 & 9 miles away). Both also have petrol stations.
The are numerous surrounding dales to visit including the four main ones - Wensleydale, Swaledale, Wharfedale & Coverdale - all of which offer fantastic countryside and walking. Visitor attractions include Bolton Castle, West Burton waterfall, Hardraw Force, The Wensleydale Creamery in Hawes (which makes fantastic cheese!). We also provide guests with lists of other suggested places to eat & visit.
