About Jo Patton

We are a couple who love Spain-the people, the culture, the food, the wine and of course the weather! Our search for an apartment in a Spain has taken us all over, to many beautiful places. Each one has something great to offer but in choosing Cadiz, I think we've found it all. We are both musicians who travel a lot internationally playing concerts. In this apartment, in this city we feel we have really found a place to not just get away from it all but a place that will stimulate, inspire and stay with you. Try it and see!

Jo Patton purchased this apartment in 2015

Why Jo Patton chose Cádiz

Our apartment is quite small but has a great feeling to it. It has lots of natural light and is lovely and bright which is really important to us. When we bought it, it was reformed but had nothing in it and with the help of our fantastic interior designer, we have designed the whole apartment to emphasize the light to provide a really comfortable place to be with all the modern comforts of your own home. Although the apartment is located in a traditional Gaditano street, it was this situation that really made the decision for us. It is in the best area of Cadiz's Old Town and the view from even the little Juliet balconies in the lounge promises something special. Within 2 minutes walk of the apartment, you can be by the sea, to one of the most beautiful and romantic spots imaginable. Two minutes walk the other way, you can be in a great little bar enjoying a glass of wine and a tapa. For us Cadiz has it all.

What makes this apartment unique

We fell in love with Cádiz & our little apartment. Each time we visit we get to know each other a little better. The character of the city is so friendly, relaxed and sunny and it has such a great climate because it is surrounded by the sea which creates a really welcome breeze. The architecture is beautiful and there is a real pride in the city and significant investment from the city to ensure it retains this character. It is well located to explore the greater region and has great public transport links including a bus and train station. Jerez is only 30 minutes away and offers you the real chance to explore the authentic home of Sherry. Take a guided tour, learn all about how it's made, enjoy some tapas and take the train home...The Costa de la Luz is really fantastic laying claim to some of the most incredible beaches in a Spain. If you have a car, explore some of the Pueblos Blancos for a really authentic Spanish village experience.

In Cádiz, you are only 1hour and 40 minutes away from Seville by train which is definitely worth a visit. It can be unbelievably hot in the summer but is truly the capital of Andalucia. The natural breeze, temperature & space of Cádiz provide a real welcome on your return.

First Class Apartment in Cadiz

  • 5 of 5

We visited Cadiz in early February as we wanted to attend the Festival and we stayed in Jo’s apartment for 9 nights. We were impressed. We have been travelling around the world for over 3 years and have stayed in many many apartments during this time - this is one of the best we have stayed in.Spacious , very nicely furnished and very well equipped with everything you might need to enjoy a self catering holiday - if you can drag yourselves away from the local bars and restaurants! We were delighted with the generous welcome pack provided which was in addition to the condiments , oils ,coffee pods and tea bags which we left for us to use.

The apartment is in a great location and we walked everywhere.Jo provides a very comprehensive list of things to do and places to eat and drink and we tried several of her recommended restaurants - all good.

The building work referenced in a previous review is still ongoing but we didn’t find it a problem perhaps because the works are approaching completion and most of the noisiest work is finished.

We highly recommend this apartment .We will not hesitate to stay again if the opportunity arises.

Thank you Jo .

Best wishes

Peter & Ann

Publicity photos misleading, it is a small flat in narrow back street. Flat modern and well appointed but cold! Aircon heating inadequate and no heating at all in bathroom. We were told 'about 12 steps' - there are actually 20. We made the best of it, but it was like spending a month in the Gorbals. Surroundings streets seedy and run down

Owner's Response: Dear Jill, I am so so disappointed to receive your review and to hear you didn't enjoy your stay at our apartment. I cannot understand why you didn't contact me during your stay to express your concern. In the three years we have had the apartment you are the first to write such a review and I pride myself on being as honest and open with my guests as possible to avoid any such situation. You knew the apartment was on the first floor and I'm sorry if I hadn't counted the exact number of stairs correctly but you told me "Although we are elderly, have no fear, one flight of stairs is no problem". The apartment is widely acknowledged to be in one of the nicest areas of Cádiz with the advantage of being situated on a quiet street but only a few minutes walk from all the amenities. I have always found the heating and air conditioning to be very effective but of course it isn't the same as central heating in the UK. I don't know what else to say. I just wish you had contacted me and I could have tried to find you an alternative solution. All best wishes for more successful holidays in the future, Jo

A comfortable, spacious and very well equipped apartment in an ideal location

  • 4 of 5

We had a fabulous 3 week holiday in Cadiz and found the apartment to be a perfect holiday home. It was very comfortable, very well equipped and surprisingly spacious. It was ideally situated for all amenities, you could get a bus from the top of the road, and the catamaran and train station were a 1/2 hr walk. The central market was a 15min walk and sells delicious fresh fish which we would purchase for our nights in. There were no shortages of places to eat out and one our favourites was Veedoor in Veedoor St which is a very traditional tapas bar, and another was Pena Flamenco at La Caleta beach, here we enjoyed 3 evenings of flamenco dancing, singing and guitar playing whilst enjoying a fabulous meal. The nearest Plaza, Mentidero, was just around the corner and has great bars and Tapas and a delicious bakery.

On the down side, I couldn't write an honest review without mentioning the building work that is going on in the street, which Jo had informed us of before booking, but we hadn't realised how noisy it would be. The builders arrived at 7.30am and left at 6pm. We had fabulous weather and were out most of the day after breakfast, but if you want a lie in, forget it. Given the amount of hours they were working you could actually see progress being made, and when they left, the site was swept and washed. When it is complete it will greatly improve the street which on first site appears to be a little run down. That being said, we would certainly return to the apartment as it is so well placed and we found Cadiz to be fascinating, traditional and unspoilt and there is so much to see, and getting around was so easy we didn't feel the need to hire a car.

Owner's Response: Many thanks for writing such an honestly positive review. I am so happy you enjoyed your stay in our apartment and you found you were comfortable and well situated. I am sorry the building works were challenging, particularly with the hours of work. It is against the law in Spain to begin work before 8am so that shouldn't have happened. Of course, it is great that the Junta de Andalucia are investing in the Old Town of Cádiz but just a bit inconvenient it is happening in our street but you are right that once they are all complete, it is going to be great! I am so pleased you enjoyed the city and discovered some of its many highlights!! Many thanks again for your booking, Happy Christmas! Jo

Delightful apartment in heart of old town

  • 5 of 5

The apartment has been recently refurbished to a very high specification and had everything we needed for our stay. Jo provided us with lots of recommendations for places to eat and drink, and ideas of activities in the area. Cadiz is an amazing city and we loved our time there. We will definitely be back.

A bright and clean apartment in an easily accessible part of Cadiz.

  • 5 of 5

We had a very enjoyable stay in Cadiz, everything we wanted to see and do was a short walk from the apartment. We found the local people to be very friendly despite (or perhaps because of) our stumbling attempts to speak Spanish.

We particularly enjoyed the food market, climbing the ramp up the bell tower in the Cathedral, the Camera Obscura and an archeological museum. Make sure you check the time of the English presentations in the last two places or you might end up with a bit of a long wait.

A really lovely city and a great place to stay.

Everything you need for a luxurious holiday!

  • 5 of 5

Such a well appointed and designed flat. Pre-holiday information easy, excellent and very helpful in planning our time. So many Tapas Bars to sample and things to do! The flat is home from home and luxurious, marble clad bathroom with excellent shower, high spec kitchen with Dishwasher and Washing Machine, great TV system and Mini-Sound Link for quality Bluetooth listening. Coffee machine, oven and high spec ceramic hob allow for independent cooking when you're just too tired or you've got some fresh fish fom the market.

If we haven't said it enough EVERYTHING about this property is fabulous!

Having travelled all day it was so nice to have some basic provisions in the fridge (unlike other properties where there's been nothing), thank you Alejandre!

As for Càdiz well what a beautiful place. The flat allows you easy access to the bellavista of the Bay of Càdiz, two lovely art/history museums allow for a cooler and educative option, just round the corner. Hop on a bus to the beach or Plaza Espana. If you're adventurous change from the No.2 at Playa Victoria turminus and walk across the road to get the No. 1 to Cortadura and lunch at Bar Nahu, more adventurous Tapas.

Plaza Mena stays awake until after midnight and people watching whilst sampling the next flavour of Ice Cream is a must-all life here!

Modern take on Tapas just a step away at:

La Curiosdad de Maurobarreiro. Love El Cumbres Mayores for tuna tapas and a great house red wine at the bar.

Take the Catamaran Ferry Service to Puerta Santa Maria or Rota 5€ each way for a special day the other side of the Bay.

Thank you for a special holiday.

Cádiz is a great place to be! Whether you want to eat, drink, shop, see flamenco, visit a museum or just chill out on the beach, Cadiz has it all. Its lovely to walk the whole circuit of the sea wall early morning passing through particular highlights such as the Parque Genovés and the Alameda Apodaca. Both are stunningly beautiful places with sculpted trees, beautiful flowers and even a waterfall in the Parque! Before lunch, visit the Mercado Central which is centrally located in Calle Libertad, next to the Plaza de la Flores vibrant with flowers. The Mercado is a real experience-incredibly fresh fish, meat and vegetables- fantastic if you can cook them but if not, there are bars that offer to cook the food you buy! Check out some of the stalls surrounding the Mercado. You can buy anything from Salmorejo to Sushi. My favourite bar for an aperitif is El Colmado.

If you fancy a bit of culture, you can check out one of the museums or galleries. Try the Museum de Cádiz in Plaza de la Mina or the Museo de la Cortes in Calle Santa Inés commemorating the 1812 Constitution. Nearer to home, you can visit the Centro Cultural Reina Sofia at the top of our street where it joins the Alameda.

Other things to visit include the Cathedral and the Torre Tavira in Calle Marques del Rio Tesoro which hosts a Camera Obscura giving fantastic 360 degree views of Cadiz.

A great range of shops are to be found around Calle Columela and San Francisco for a spot of retail therapy.

You may find spontaneous Flamenco in one of the city's Peñas but it's also worth checking out the city's concert venues-the Teatro Falla or Baluarte de la Candelaria for other events. the most lively & exciting time of year is the famous carnival in February-not to be missed!

The local beach is Playa Caleta which is about 10 minute walk from the apartment which is fantastic. The old walls and castle are great to explore if lying on the beach becomes to arduous..

If you fancy trying a beach a little further away, you can take the bus or even more fun, hire a bike(Urban bike) to Playa Victoria (5km) or Playa Cortadura (6.5 km away) which are both beautiful and have great expanses of golden sands and clear water. You can even catch a catamaran over to El Puerto de Santa Maria which is a lovely way to see both Cádiz and the mainland & so refreshing!

There are no end of great places to eat and drink in Cadiz but near to the apartment head to Plaza Mentidero, Plaza de la Mina, Calle Zorrilla or to a great restaurant on the Alameda, Balandro.
