'We enjoyed your cottage so much! It was our home and working base for the week of our daughter's wedding. This cottage gave us all a place to be at home-away-from-home. Thank you so much for such a wonderful memory.'

Frank and Kathy - June 2008

We really liked this place. We actually live in Santa Barbara but our house got flooded so we were staying here and we loved it! -May 2008

We had a wonderful time in your cottage while visiting our daughter and sister who lives in Goleta. It was a very special time since we celebrated our father’s 80th birthday. The cottage is a lovely place to stay. It was very warm and cozy. We’ll definitely keep it in mind for the next time. (The Netherlands – Europe) March 20-Ap

About Cherise

My wife & I have lived in Santa Barbara for 29 yrs and invite you to come visit our Charming Cottages. There is no place like Santa Barbara in the world and we think you will agree with us after you have stayed with us in the heart of the Santa Barbara. Known as the American Riviera.

Cherise purchased this house in 2004

Why Cherise chose Santa Barbara

Our three Cottages are very charming inside and out. The landscape area surrounding the three Cottages matches the Cottages them selves. The San Roque area neighborhood is a very desirable area for locals to purchase Real Estate because of its family oriented life style and sought after school district. Also its proximity to beaches , shopping and Wine Country. We invested here because of all of these reasons.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Our stay at Hummingbird Cottage was wonderfully relaxing and fun. Hate to say it, but we slept better than at home! NIce quiet neighborhood, convenient to shopping, sites, etc. It was great to sit on front porch and enjoy our morning coffee and to be able to grill fresh fish from the fish market for supper on the back patio. Thanks to the dog friendly policy, we brought our cocker spaniel along. Went to the dog beach one day, too. Fun! The property was exactly as presented in photos and descriptions and the owner was flexible on dates when I wanted to adjust our stay by one day. Santa Barbara is a whole different world from the rest of Southern California...beautiful and uncrowded. I highly recommend a visit and stay at this cozy cottage.

Charming Cottage nestled in Santa Barbara, gave us the feeling of being a local.

  • 4 of 5

We had an at home feeling spending our family time while on vacation. The Cottage is very charming, we all enjoyed the green, fresh, whimsical landscape. We even had breakfast and coffee at the from patio. The kitchen was well stocked, just bring the food. Nice new washer and dryer in the cool little screened in patio - great when returning from the beach. Thank you for providing the lovely cottage to us. We were very comfortable.

Nice, but hot tub not working

  • 4 of 5

The cottage is lovely and very comfortable. It was perfect for our group of 4.

When we arrived we phoned the manager per the instructions and were told the hot tub just broke. I did not care, but it turned out my husband was very disappointed. If you are looking forward to a hot tub, be sure to ask about it before booking/arrival. I am not saying this is the case, but I had past experiences with rentals advertising non-functioning amenities. Also, the internet was slow. We were only there for a weekend so this was minor. If we had been there for longer & I had to work, it would have been a problem. Lastly, of all the equivalent properties I have rented in Santa Barbara over the years, this one has the highest cleaning fee. Last year I rented a huge house on Hendry's beach with a cleaning fee of 1/2 the fee of the cottage. I wanted to rent two of the cottages, but then would have had a cleaning fee of $400.00, so I went with the big house with a $100 cleaning fee.

Great house

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time here and loved the house and garden.

One suggestion would be to add a few child-friendly utensils and a foldable high-chair

A Great Place

  • 5 of 5

I would recommend this place to anyone wanting a pretty, clean, comfortable house with access to outdoors, free parking and all amenities. The house was spotless, linens and made up beds were a delight, and everything worked perfectly. I was not so interested in nearby activities and attractions asI had grown up in the area and knew what I wanted to do.

I have several friends here in the east who are very interested in my experience and I will pass your information on to them when/if they decide to pursue it seriously.

Huge Disappointment

  • 2 of 5

I don't even know where to begin with this one. Do not let the outside appearance trick you into thinking that the inside matches it. Nothing could be further from the truth. Outside is well-maintained with very tasteful gardens. The inside however is a much different story. No thought and care has been taken with the decor. Walls are bland and there is absolutely nothing comfortable in the entire cottage. The kitchen is lacking in almost every area. Dishes are chipped, only two wineglasses no juice glasses, pots and pans are old, and should be thrown away. I'm sure that we ingested our share of Teflon chips while we were there. There are broken tiles on the counter. Unfortunately we stayed for an entire month. Not a very inspiring environment for that amount of time. If you're just coming for a weekend, I'm sure it would not bother you. Everything in the cottage seems to have been an afterthought. All items seem to have come from yard sales and or thrift stores. Total lack of imagination when it came to the decorating of this house. Also, there are many things that need attention by way of repairs.Master bedroom door does not open all the way because it hits the bed. Door to guest room does not latch or lock. Master bath has rotten baseboard behind the toilet. Guest bath paint is blistering and towel bar fell off, but was repaired while we were there. The first thing I had to do when I got to the house was take down the moldy and torn shower curtain liner and go to Marshall's to buy a new one. I also washed the shower curtain provided and rehung those items. I was offered reimbursement on the items that I bought, but refused, I just left them there. I also had to buy wash cloths, there were none in the cottage when we got there. That was not acceptable. The cottage has huge potential and it's so sad to see it neglected in this way. Some who are reading this review may think I just don't appreciate older homes. Nothing could be further from the truth. I lived for 30 years in an 1845 Pennsylvania farmhouse. I currently live in a 1924 Mediterranean Villa style home. I love and appreciate old homes, it's just so very sad when they are neglected as this one is. Needless to say I would never return to this rental property.

Owner's Response: I’m sorry you had a bad experience. We’ve been in business 12 years, we have accommodated hundreds of guests, and we strive to create a comfortable home. We have had time address the items you noted were in need of replacing. Thank you for staying at Butterfly Cottage.

Butterfly Cottage

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was a great place to stay. It also comes with everything you need. Now pit, washer and dryer and a full kitchen. It is truly a home away from home. Quiet neighborhood. My favorite was having coffee on the porch with the fountain. Very relaxing. We will definitely stay here again sometime. Thank you for the great accommodations.
