Hi, thanks for looking! I bought and lived in this home for 7 years and completely remodeled and updated the home while living there. I moved to Oak Ridge to shorten my commute to work and decided to keep this home as a vacation rental.
The boat dock and backyard were amazing! Even better than the pictures. The house was comfortable and it easily held 15 people. The owner was available to answer questions and accomadated all of our requests. The basement is a little stuffy and needs to be better ventelated. However, with the air conditioning on, it airs out quickly. Thanks for the fun memories.
Our family enjoyed our stay at the Driftwood property on Watts Bar Lake. The cottage is small, but most of our time was spent on the water and on the fabulous boat dock. The kitchen is small but well stocked with necessary items. The recently remodeled downstairs with counters for the various computers and electronic devices was well used by our young folks. The TV room, while small, was very comfortable . Thank you for allowing us to share your vacation home for a week.
We enjoyed our stay. There were a few thibgs that were not working that would have made the stay more enjoyable but we made do. The location is great and we loved fishing off the dock. The kayak and canoe were great fun. The boat ramp was very covenient. The slope to the lake was easy to walk.
The neighbors were friendly.
Some of the things wrong with the house were merely inconvenient and did not keep us from enjoying ourselves. The dishwasher did not clean the dishes so we handwashed. The icemaker didn't work, so, we bought ice at store. The stairs were very steep and noisy but tolerable. We cooked all of our meals and found that the oven required more time than usually needed and one of the stove eyes didn't work on high. The dock did not have power and the hot tub wasn't filled which we told Mr. Moon about. He called me back immediately and answered my questions. Still, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would probably stay again. Thank you, Mr. Moon.
We stayed 7 nights and had an excellent vacation stay. The house was very comfortable and certainly roomy enough. We enjoyed the fire pit and yard on the lake, and the hot tub was perfect after our long tourist days (we made several long day trips). A major plus that it is dog friendly, yet still clean, unlike many pet friendly hotels. I would definitely recommend the Driftwood Cottage and would stay there again if ever in the area.
The house was a perfect size for the family of 6 adults plus 2 children under 4 years old. The location for boating and enjoying the lake was perfect. Sand bar, diving cliffs and water front restaurants very close. House kitchen, dining, bedrooms and family room clean. Dock was great for our boat. Did not get excellent rating because screened in porch area bas not been cleaned for a while and was very dirty (we cleaned it ourselves to use on a couple of rainy days) and the dock and outside lights had no power. When it got dark, needed flashlights and lanterns to move around outdoors.
We had a fun long weekend at Driftwood Cottage after booking short notice due to the weather forecast (we had planned to camp). Rodger (the owner) replied to my inquiry and got us set up in just a couple days—very easy to work with! The best part about this getaway is the lakefront lawn and private dock. It is situated in a little cove with other houses and docks all around, so we weren’t secluded at all, but we didn’t mind that because we typically camp. The provided canoe and kayak were fun. The canoe had a broken seat, but that has probably been fixed now. There is ramp right beside the house, and a covered boat slip on the private dock that worked perfectly for our bass boat. The house was plenty large, but there were a few awkward layout issues. It says three stories in the description, but it is not clear how the living space is laid out, and I didn’t think to ask. The main floor is street level on one side, but the parking area is actually in the back at the walkout basement. This means everything has to be unloaded and hauled up a flight of steps to the kitchen/dining room. It is an additional flight of steps to the upstairs bedrooms. It made going in and out a bit of a chore for the older folks with joint problems, and it was not ideal for toddlers or dogs (bring baby gates!). It would be nice if there was parking or at least a driveway or walkway in the front. The kitchen was nice, and well-stocked, but we struggled to find an area where we could all gather to eat—the dining room plus kitchen island will seat 10, but there is no room for serving if both of those are completely covered up. I’m not sure where you would put 15 people if you were at max capacity! The hot tub had no water in it, and we stayed in October, so that was odd. It was pretty warm while we were there, but if it had been cold, we would have requested the owner address this since it says the hot tub is available in that month. Overall we found this place to be average when it comes to a vacation rental. The lake access really made up for some of the shortcomings of the house, but I would still not suggest it for a group with seniors (60+ or anyone with knee issues), toddlers, or inside dogs that can’t handle wood stairs. It would be better for a group of young adults or families with older kids/teens who will be spending most of their time outside.
