About Pat Armstrong
Pat and Richard Armstrong live on a beef and sheep farm nearby, they have two grown up sons who work locally but are always willing to lend a helping hand on the farm at busy times. The farmland surrounding Keepers Cottage belongs to the farm and cattle and sheep graze the fields most of the time. When they are handling the sheep near the cottage guests love to get involved and Pat and Richard are more than pleased to answer any questions they may ask. Springtime is a particular favourite with families when they visit Pat and Richard to bottle feed the pet lambs.
Pat Armstrong purchased this Cottage in 1999
Why Pat Armstrong chose Carlisle
Keepers Cottage provides a perfect base for visiting The Lake District, The Scottish Borders, Carlisle, Hadrians Wall and The Solway Coast - take a day out knowing that in the evening you can return to a well appointed, tranquil cottage for a peaceful meal and a glass of wine in cosy surroundings. On the evenings that you prefer not to cook, Skitby House Restaurant is very close - less than half a mile if you fancy a stroll, and the food comes highly recommended.
What makes this Cottage unique
Keepers Cottage is a wonderful rural retreat. Perfectly private yet within a 15 minute drive from the centre of Carlisle. Guests have been known to draw back the curtains to spot a deer grazing quietly and that is why a pair of binoculars are always close to hand. A wonderful place to re-charge the batteries!

Photos don't do it justice, amazing space for a cottage ,we were 5 Adults and 2 dogs and had plenty room. Everything you needed in the cottage , heating system is fantastic and all equipped with everything you may need. Very homely , we all met up at the cottage for Christmas form both ends of the country and had the most wonderful week. Weather although nothing to do with the cottage was fantastic, cold but dry so we managed to get out and about more than we anticipated but great location. and plenty walks around the area. First time we have done this type of holiday and thanks to Keepers Cottage won't be the last . Thank you so much had a fantastic stay and hopefully see you again sometime int he future .......
Thank you for your comments, it makes my job very worthwhile. So pleased you made the most of our area - especially when you had all travelled so far.
Keepers Cottage - rural paradise
The cottage was immaculate, better than described and in the most beautiful setting. The garden and woodland have a swing and playhouse for the little ones, and the vistas from the cottage are just beautiful. The night skies are wonderful. We held a family barbecue during our stay for several children (from 2 years upwards) and grownups (ages undisclosed!) with the approval of our lovely landlord, Pat. Everyone was enchanted with both the cottage itself which is roomy, comfortable and full of character, and the garden which is magical. I could happily live there - such a welcoming and comfortable stay. Thank you to Pat and Richard for making our holiday such a happy one. Also, thanks to the weather god who blessed us with good weather (that said the cottage also caters very well for bad weather). Whilst there we visited local attractions of Lanercost priory, Hadrians Wall and Talkin Tarn all within 10 miles, and found the local shops in the charming town of Brampton catered for most things, (although Sainsbury's also take online orders and deliver to the cottage) the Antiques centre is a must visit! We also went to Skitby house for a meal which was excellent and within walking distance, weather permitting.
Would recommend this to anyone and would definitely revisit We were sorry to leave. Jan and Martin White
Keepers Cottage is situated close to the small village of Smithfield, which is mid-way between the small towns of Brampton and Longtown in North Cumbria. The historic city of Carlisle is only 20 minutes drive away and it is a similar distance to Gretna Green and the Scottish Border.
