Casa Sucaz is a spacious 3 bedroom town house in a quiet rural location just over 2km from the beach. Furnished to a high standard with air-conditioning and anti-mosquito screens. Each of the 3 bedrooms has large wardrobes and the kitchen is fully equipped. This is a perfect base for visiting the glorious Blue Flag sandy beaches between Tavira and Monte Gordo, or one of the many magnificent and challenging golf course in this region. If you just want to laze in the sun there is a large roof terrace with sunbeds and a barbecue for al-fresco dining. The Spanish border is just 12km to the east and Tavira, one of the most architecturally attractive towns in the Algarve with its origin dating back to around 2.000 BC is 17km to the west. Four water parks and two theme parks along the Algarve, together with the wonderful Spanish city of Seville are all within one and a half hours drive. Faro airport is about 35 mins drive.

Golf: Our house is in the perfect location for those seeking to play golf in the beautiful Eastern Algarve. There are six 18 hole golf courses and one 9 hole course all with superb views and challenging water hazards within 15 minutes drive: Castro Marim - par 72. Quinta do Vale - par 72, Quinta da Ria – par 72. Quinta de Cima – par 72. Benamor – par 71, Monte Rei - par 72 and Colina Verde - par 28.

In addition there are several more courses a short distance across the Spanish border which is just 12km from the house.

The Algarve is a great place to cycle so if you want to hire bikes for a few days to explore the area at a gentle pace and really take in the scenery East Algarve Bike Hire will be pleased to assist (http://www.eastalgarvebikehire.com/index.php/holiday-rental.html)

Our Portuguse holiday at Casa Sucaz

We stayed at Casa Sucaz in August 2006. Graham's directions to the accomodation were excellent as was all the literature he prepared on Altura and its vicinity.The property was very well maintained and clean and exactly as described in the literature we read before booking. All the bedrooms were very spacious, the lounge easily accomodated 6 of us and the outside roof balcony with barbeque was great. One nights, two of the older children slept under the stars! The kitchen was well supplied with all the equipment that you need. Air conditioning was available throughout the accomodation - essential as it is very hot in the Algarve in August.

Car hire is essential to fully explore all the local attractions, though we found a local store within walking distance that provided basic provisions (as well turning into a bar in the evening).

The local town of Altura is walkable, though we tended to drive into the town (parking never a problem). Lots of different types of restaurants - all very good value as well as the beach - very big and sandy which the kids loved. Altura has all the shopping facilities that you'll need while on holiday - supermarkets, banks, pharmacies and an internet cafe!.

Of the other local attractions, the water theme parks were great for the kids (and adults too). We would also highly recommend the town of Tavira. It has a superb range of riverside restaurants, all reasonably priced and it has the hidden treasure in the Camera Obscura which is an old optical device that projects an image of the town from inside a redundant water tower.

Being so close to the border with Spain makes it very easy to visit Sevilla which made for a really interesting day.

Though I didn't play golf during my stay ( a bit too hot in August), there are several good looking courses within a short drive. Casa Sucaz would be a great base to play golf outside the summer month.

In summary, we had a great time at Case Sucaz and have no hesitation in recommending it.

The small town of Altura is situated in what many consider to be one of the most attractive and unspoiled areas of the Algarve between Tavira (17 km) and Vila Real de St. Antonio (8 km) and some 50km from Faro. The house is just 12km from the border with Spain at the Guadiana river and is about 160km - 90 minutes drive to Seville, Spain’s loveliest (and hottest!) city.

This end of the Algarve features some of the finest sandy beaches. Between Tavira and Monte Gordo there are five beaches accredited with the European Blue Flag award which covers water quality and safety & services amongst its criteria.

There are six championship golf course within 10-15 minutes drive from the house and further courses across the border into Spain.

The nearby towns of Faro, Loule, Estoi, Tavira, Vila Real de Santo Antonio and Castro Marim offer both historic and architectural places of interest and are well worth visiting and if you have children, do not forget the water and theme parks.

Notes:
The 1st floor lounge has two balconies and a south facing sun terrace equipped with table and four chairs. There is a large roof terrace with built-in barbecue and sink. Wooden table and six chairs for al-fresco dining plus six sunbeds with soft cushions. All bedrooms and the lounge have remote controlled air-conditioning/heating units. Windows are fitted with anti-mosquito screens. Bathroom towels are provided, but guests are requested to bring their own beach towels. Bedlinen and towels are changed once a week.
