PILOTS. The Loire Valley is an ideal stopover for visiting foreign pilots. Land at Amboise/Dierre (LFEF) and Brian, an experienced pilot, will ensure that all your tourist and aviation needs are satisfied.
The Loire Valley is well known for its numerous chateaux, quality wines and delicious food and also for its caves; that is, its 'troglodyte' history. Excavation for the stone ('tuffeau') for the construction of chateaux resulted in numerous caves some of which are still used for habitation.
There are no cooking facilities in your room; However, tea/coffee making facilities are provided.
Access by car from Paris via the A10 auto route, by high-speed train (TGV) from Paris or Charles de Gaulle Airport or by air (RyanAir) is without difficulty. English is spoken.
Renting a car is necessary so as to have access to Amboise (4 km) and also to visit the numerous tourist features of the Loire Valley. Convenient car rental is available at the TGV station in Tours (St Pierre des Corps). Our GPS coordinates are N47 26' 57.2' and E001 00' 52.5'.

We cannot find the words to express our gratitude and joy at having not only stayed in this most fabulous residence but also meeting two of the friendliest and helpful people ! Coming here at the conclusion of our 10 day French exploration, we found your hospitality most welcome and gracious. We finally took some time to relax and enjoy this beautiful landscape and relish in our many fond memories of our travels. Your recommendations for delicious French local cuisine were perfect and the breakfasts provided here were delightful. Thank you both for the exotic accommodation, the wonderful food, the friendly atmosphere and for memories to last a lifetime. We will be back to enjoy this little parcel of paradise for a longer time period as soon as we can arrange it. So this is not goodbye, but rather - see you again soon
We stayed here for 4nights and thoroughly enjoyed the cave experience. Terese was very friendly and welcoming upon our arrival. She is a wonderful host and nothing was to much trouble. Whether suggesting places to visit or local restaurants. The cave is unique, comfortable and very clean. The location is central to all the places of interest in the area. We enjoyed sitting on the patio looking across the valley below after a day out sightseeing . It was a pleasure chatting to Brian who is a wealth of information. We would highly reccommend staying here.
We chose to go to the Loire Valley above other options after our initial email exchange with Brian. We were not only intrigued by the idea of having a room carved into rock, but Brian provided a wealth of local knowledge that helped us plan our trip. We spent four lovely days in the Touraine region of the Loire Valley - this was such an unexpected discovery. Thanks to Thérèse we visited villages and restaurants that are hidden gems and found out more about the fascinating troglodyte history. We not only managed to avoid tourist clichés, but we slept wobderfully, had delicious food, developed a taste for aged Cabernet Franc and met some people who are passionate about what they do and their region. Thérèse makes a delicious breakfast with lovely personal touches such as home-made jam which we loved.
We highly recommended you visit this region, and this beautiful home and it's charming hosts, will make this a visit to remember.
We had the pleasure of staying at La Paquerie for 2 nights. The place is unique, comfortable and romantic – but more about that later. The highlight of our entire trip to France was spending time with the owners Brian and Therese. To give you an idea of how impressed we were, on the second day we decided to spend our time talking to them instead of visiting Chambord! Brian is a retired 747 pilot, decorated by the Queen of England for his services. He is also an accomplished photographer and a master gardener, among many other talents (Leonardo da Vinci would be proud!). Therese is an accomplished painter, potter and poet. She has held exhibitions of her work, some at the invitation of the ambassador of France. Both have lived in many countries around the world and have a wealth of amazing life experiences.
Both Brian and Therese were very hospitable. When we arrived, our room was ready, with the heater already turned on such that the room was comfortable. They walked us through the room and showed us how to use various amenities. Since it was Sunday and late, they called a restaurant for us to make sure we will get the dinner before they close. Therese also ensured that there was someone at the restaurant that spoke English, and that they would be able to make gluten-free (for my wife) and vegetarian food (for me).
The cave room is very comfortable. We slept really well, probably because the thick walls made is very quiet, and the bed was quite comfy. Based on our emailed preferences, Therese had tea bags and hot-chocolate for us in the room. They provide bathrobes and slippers. (Do ask them the story on how they got that huge wardrobe inside that room!).
The breakfasts were simply amazing! With the classical music playing in the background, the breakfast was served with great presentation. Therese found gluten-free croissant and French bread, that was a very pleasant surprise. We had her homemade delicious fruit jams, OJ, tea/hot chocolate, fruit salad, muesli, yogurt, etc.
Brian shared some great photography tips when he realized I was interested in photography (e.g. how to automatically remove tourists from pictures such that the photo looks like it was taken when nobody was around). They shared a lot of information on the area, and were genuinely interested in making sure we had a great time.
We made 2 new friends, and were sad to leave their company. We will definitely be back!
We recently stayed at La Paquerie and enjoyed impeccable hospitality from owners Brian and Therese Morgan. The "cave room" was a quaint, peaceful departure from our previous days in Paris, providing a welcome respite and thankfully more room to spread out than a Paris hotel room typically provides. It felt like our own personal apartment. The area was peaceful, with the only sound in the mornings being the birds chirping. The room was appointed with Brian and Therese's belongings from their world travels. The bathroom was also nice, with a large shower, tea service, and even a welcome towel warmer/dryer. There is a twin bed available in addition to the queen bed, and three people would easily be as comfortable staying in the room as two. The surroundings provide lovely gardens and a beautiful view of the valley. Therese provided a delicious breakfast each morning in their home, and both hosts were delightful companions and hosts in terms of conversation. They have such interesting backgrounds and were also interested in us as guests. It felt like we were immediate friends in for a visit. Both English and French are spoken by the hosts, so communication was not an issue at all.
Both Brian and Therese were ready with restaurant and sightseeing suggestions and directions to anywhere we wanted to go. Brian also helped monitor a potential train strike that might have hindered our getting back to Paris and was ready to help us secure alternative train tickets if necessary. He also skillfully repaired a broken pair of sunglasses.
Excellent service and hospitality is hard to come by these days. I fully intend to visit La Paquerie again in the future and catch up with our new friends. Don't hesitate to book these accommodations and get to know the wonderful hosts! Merci boucoup, Brian and Therese!
This has to be one of the most unique places we have stayed in. It is charming, quiet and very restful, especially on the night of our arrival after a long day's drive from the Rhone Valley. Therese and Brian are wonderful hosts and provided us with guidance on what to see to maximize our short stay here. Therese is a cook par excellence. Her breakfasts were spot-on and the optional arrival dinner was excellent. It made for a relaxing evening unwinding from the Autoroute. The room, in an old wine cave, was warm and cozy in the rather cold and cloudy weather. The suite includes everything one should need to enjoy the amenities of the area. It is roomy, modern, yet old and charming. The wi-fi provided needed connectivity throughout our stay. The hosts are especially helpful in planning what to see and how to see it. The recommendation to visit Chateau Chaumont allowed us to see the fabulous Garden Festival where contemporary garden designers display their work in an English-style garden. This is definitely the place to stay if you are interested in a quiet cozy romantic get-away. Brian and Therese will make your stay unforgettable.
