What'll Keep You Coming Back: As South Dakota residents, warm weather was the primary draw for us to vacation in Scottsdale. Now that we've been there several times, we've found some local favorites that keep us coming back (especially the restaurants)! Be sure to check out our recommendations below when you're in the area. They're sure to keep you coming back for more (and after one stay at the Allison, you won't be able to resist).

Our Favorite Scottsdale Places to Eat: Flo's Asian Kitchen - 10 minute drive located at 16495 N Scottsdale Rd. --- Carlos O'Brien's Mexican Restaurant - 5 minute drive located at 7111 East Bell Road. --- Streets of NY Pizza - 5 minute drive located at Pima & Frank Lloyd Wright. --- Sugar Bowl Ice Cream Parlor and Restaurant - 15 minute drive located in the heart of Old Scottsdale at 4005 N Scottsdale Rd.

Favorite Places We've Visited: Dreamy Draw Recreation Area - Hiking, biking and horse-back riding mountain trails showcasing native plants in their natural habitat. 20 minute drive on I-10 Freeway to SR-51. Take SR-51 Northbound to the Northern Ave exit and turn right (East). This will take you right into the Dreamy Draw recreation area.

--- McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park - A fun family location with a large children's playground, carousel and historic Pullman train. 10 minute drive located at 7301 E. Indian Bend Road, Scottsdale.

--- Old Town Scottsdale. 15 minute drive located on Scottsdale Rd between Indian School and Camelback Rds. The best place we found for a variety of souvenirs. Our favorite store: Scottsdale Southwest at 7221 E 1st Ave (just two blocks from the Sugar Bowl).

Nice condo good value

  • 5 of 5

My elderly father stayed in the condo for 3 weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas. He felt very comfortable in the unit and appreciated the single level. The condo was well stocked and convenient to shopping and restaurants. Great place to stay and very good value!

Very nice. We had problems with the televisions in both rooms. Updating the main box would be a good idea it looks really dated.

We stayed 8 days and had a wonderful time-Georgia was great to work with

  • 4 of 5

Hi All. My wife and I stayed at this unit for 8 nights the first week of February. We had a wonderful time. It is very quiet there. We wanted to relax and that we did. We had not stayed in north Scottsdale in the past, but found this unit close to all that we wanted to do.

We went for walks every morning and appreciated the quiet neighborhood. We could walk to the grocery store, and lunch at the Pita Jungle, which is excellent. We also did a lot of hiking, and your close to the McDowell Recreational area, about seven minutes. Kierland shopping and many of the great restaurants are only 5-10 minutes away.

We found Georia great to work with and answered all of our questions. The pictures are accurate in everyway.

We plan to return and this unit will be our first choice again.

A mixed review

  • 2 of 5

The condo is in a good location/nice neighbourhood, and close to the 101 loop. The kitchen is well-stocked. The water seems very hard & many things have a whitish film. There was a stinky sponge at the kitchen sink, which we just set aside and didn’t use.

There was a partially-full bottle of liquid soap at the kitchen sink, with an empty one under the sink but no refill. Unfortunately the bathroom had bar soap (yuck), and there wasn’t enough liquid soap to split it between the two containers. Another “yuck” was the pile fabric toilet seat cover & U-shaped floor mat around the toilet.

The condo is nicely decorated. Although an older complex, the suite has been renovated. It was fairly clean. The light coloured carpet is a quite worn with a few marks. When the people in the condo above were home, every noise was audible however. The queen-sized bed was comfortable, although very high.

The wi-fi is secured however for some reason it very often & spontaneously switched over to an unsecured router with noticeable drop in speed. This has never happened to us before and it made us uncomfortable using unknown and non-secure wi-fi.

The bathroom is very small and the bathtub is be some sort of plastic compound as it’s quite scratched and has a textured bottom, which makes it look quite old & quite dirty, but the shower head had good pressure. Some toiletries are supplied, as well as a small first aid kit, lint roller & hair dryer. But no liquid soap.

There were only a few towels supplied, and oddly for a place with a pool, only 1 beach towel. There were also only TWO rolls of toilet paper provided for two adults for a 15 day stay. I emailed the owner to tell her of these two items being in short supply, but that everything else seemed fine, and her reply was that there was enough toilet paper for each guest’s stay and she said to “...feel free to get what you want.” Really...we have to buy our own toilet paper? For the towels, she said there should be plenty and she asked to me to do a “towel inventory” so she could “get to the bottom” of why there weren’t enough towels. I thought that odd – after all I was only requesting two basic items–but I complied...then never heard back from her. I ended up having to launder towels more than I was expecting to, as well as purchase toilet paper. Not impressed. At all. Bad business practice & bad PR IMO.

Our bottom line: We prefer to stay where our business is appreciated so we will stay elsewhere next time.
