Overview

About the property

Quiet rural retreat, close to Penzance, ideal for beaches and SW coast path

Chyenhal Garden Cottage is bright and sunny and has been imaginatively renovated to a high standard by its artist owners. It is full of character with painted wood panelling, beams, roof lights, art and a cosy wood burner. The large windows create magical pictures of the beautiful gardens in which it is set. Approached along a picturesque bridleway there is plenty of off road parking and it is set in quiet countryside but still just minutes away from everything you need for a great holiday.

The living area is spacious; relax on the comfortable two seater sofa and enjoy the play of the flames in the wood burner or enjoy the outlook on garden and countryside. This connection with the outside is also one of the pleasures of dining by the window that looks onto the beautiful cherry tree and is bathed in the glow of the late sun at the end of the day.

The well equipped kitchen area includes ceramic hob and hood, fan oven, microwave, fridge freezer, and washing machine.

The bedroom is spacious and has a double bed, wood panelling and is filled with light and sunshine in the mornings and is warm and cosy at night. The en suite bathroom has a large shower enclosure and power shower.

Step outside the door and enjoy time in the sunny courtyard garden that is just for your use; BBQ and dine outdoors. We also have an acre and a half of garden here which we are very happy to share with our guests; feel free to stroll, relax and enjoy time in what one guest described as our "little piece of paradise".

Beautifully appointed and very welcoming

A lovely holiday in a fabulous cottage. A welcoming cream tea on arrival that was delicious and much appreciated. The cottage was very well equipped and in a very picturesque and peaceful location. Spotlessly clean cottage and friendly hosts.

(ABFAB) Absolutely Fabulous

  • 5 of 5

We chose this cottage through the 5star write ups it received and we are so glad we did, the cottage had everything we needed plus more. We were met by the owners Claire and Bern, a lovely, arty couple which suited my wife Liz who herself is an artist. They showed us round the cottage, it was very homely and comfortable and had displays of their artwork and pottery which my wife fancied buying. The other write ups spoke about scones cream and jam and we were not disappointed. We had our own private garden which was totally enclosed with two chairs a table and a BBQ, it was really lovely sitting out having breakfast, we also had the freedom to wander round Claire and Bern's acre and a half of garden which was beautiful. Normally we never go back to the same place twice but having so much still to see in Cornwall and having such a wonderful place to stay this will definitely be an exception. So thank you Claire and Bern you will no doubt see us again

Simple but lovely.

  • 5 of 5

Well equipped cosy little cottage attached to owners home. Lots of little touches which were much appreciated - handwash, cleaning cloths, loo rolls, washing up liquid etc. Scones, jam and clotted cream also supplied!!! Delish! Very peaceful as set in large grounds but with small private garden to rear which we used a couple of times to bbq. Road leading to cottage is narrow and windey and becomes bit narrower (and bumpy) for last couple of hundred yards. Big car drivers beware! We travelled all over south/central Cornwall from here very easily. Some fabulous beaches nearby. We found the area a very dog friendly place. Claire and Bernard were very welcoming and there if we needed them.

Comforts of home

  • 5 of 5

Bern greeted us as we arrived at the "hidden" retreat. His warm personality contrasted with the cold rain on our first day near Penzance.

The cottage is bright because of the skylights and high ceilings which gave the small space a larger feel. We appreciated how well utilized the space was...games and books on the rafter, many hooks for hanging wet jackets, pot scrubber, kitchen towels, and whatever you would need a hook for. There was ample storage for clothing. A wardrobe and dresser in the bedroom (a very comfy bed, too!), and and a chair and rack for tossed clothes. :) The internet connection and tv were wonderful, no disturbance in connection at all.

We were looking forward to washing our clothes, which we did, but being American and taking for granted that there would be a dryer, we were disappointed. A clothesline was just outside the cottage, but after hanging the clothes, it started to rain. Then it stopped. Then it started again. We lit a fire in the wood burning stove and hung the clothes on the large drying rack which had been conveniently hidden away in a corner. The clothes were dry by morning.

The kitchen was well appointed. We didn't use the oven, but the stove top and microwave were used, and all the necessary pots, pans, dishes, and utensils were in place. Tea was provided, as well as basic kitchen "things"...soap, salt, etc.

The cottage reflects the owners' artistic talents. Pottery and paintings, all of which coordinated with the peaceful blue color scheme, were examples of their work. We enjoyed

the scones, jam, and clotted cream which met us upon our arrival.

Thank you, Claire and Bern, for our short (3 night) visit. We felt at home!

Comfortable and cosy retreat from the rain

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely stay in this beautiful cottage which was very well equipped, comfortable and cosy; just perfect for a short break when the weather was less than kind.

The hosts were extremely welcoming and made sure that we had everything we needed.

Brilliant cottage for two. Photos don't really do it justice...spacious inside. Owners are lovely. Thanks for the cream tea and milk on arrival. We enjoyed lovely strolls around Penzance, Sennen and the Lizard...it was a perfect location for all these places...just wish we didn't live so far away!

Chyenhal Garden Cottage is situated on the Cornish Penwith Peninsula in beautiful countryside. Nine miles from Lands End it is just minutes away from Penzance, Newlyn and Mousehole situated on stunning Mounts Bay. Step out of the door and walk from here along bridleways and through fields to the picturesque fishing harbour of Mousehole with its beach, restaurants and old world Ship Inn. It is here that you can join the South West Coast Path which affords some of the best coastal walking to be had anywhere.

Penzance itself is an attractive town with promenade, listed Lido and harbour, shops, restaurants, pubs and galleries. Explore Chapel St, see the Egyptian House and try great pubs like The Turks Head and Admiral Benbow [look out for bandits on the roof!]. Sea trips to look at the abundant wild life of the bay and coast on the sailing catamaran Marine Discovery are are highly recommended; this years highlights include huge numbers of dolphin and porpoise, an enormous shoal of Blue Fin Tuna and a Humpback Whale! The bay offers great sailing, kite surfing and sailboarding.

Newlyn is still a working harbour and is the place to go for all kinds of fish fresh from the boats. As well as the harbour and fish market there are restaurants, pubs and the historic Newlyn Art Gallery.
