About Ceri and Bob
We fell in love with Rising Sun 10 years ago and it has been our bolt hole and sanctuary ever since! We get down to Newport as often as we can, but are happy to share this magical place with visitors who always love it and want to come back again.
Ceri and Bob purchased this Cottage in 2005
Why Ceri and Bob chose Newport
Rising Sun is perfectly located just out of the bustle of the town, but near enough to walk down for an evening in the pub! It sits just on the side of the mountain with lovely views to the sea, estuary and across the valley. The garden is beautiful with its large pond and seating areas, have a go on the swing!
What makes this Cottage unique
Rising Sun is such a relaxing, comfortable yet quirky and interesting home. As a former pub with some lovely features, it's as interesting to be on the inside as it is to be outside admiring the views!
One well behaved dog, must sleep downstairs

Expensively refurbished cottage which feels more like someone's home than the usual holiday house. Comfortable sofas and beds and good wifi. Good heating and very beautiful cooker if you like to spend your holiday in the kitchen. Shower needs considerable agility but we did know from the details what it was like before we got there so can't complain! Nice garden with lovely apple trees. Would stay there again.
Thanks very much, Sue,
I hope you helped yourselves to the apples and took plenty home!
Magical house and location
Wonderful house and garden in a gorgeous location at the foot of Carn Ingli but also just a short walk from lovely Newport. Well equipped not just with the necessaries but lots of extras that are useful around the house (eg a handmixer for baking) or out and about (eg beach stuff, maps, books etc) or are just interesting or beautiful (or both). Thanks for a lovely stay
Just love this property, feels so like home. Newport and the surrounding area is really magical and we just want to go back again and again. Will be booking in for next year, in due course!
Rising Sun Newport
Fantastic cottage a short walk from Newport village. Stunning views and very well-appointed cottage - the owners have thought of everything right down to firewood. As two families renting together, we had a great week; the children particularly enjoyed the garden.
So glad you enjoyed your week, Lisa. I always think the garden is a fun space (although I need to catch up with the weeding), so I’m glad the kids enjoyed it.
Stocking up both Rising Sun and my own place with firewood keeps me and the chainsaw busy!!
Lovely Rising Sun
We enjoyed our second stay as much as our first! Despite weather being wet, dramatic and stormy most days, we tucked ourselves in to this warm and beautiful house.after wet walks and trips out.
The house is so solid and comfy that the weather didn't really matter; we cooked in the well equipped kitchen, lit log fires in one of the stoves, and relaxed on sofas. And the kitchen table is perfect for playing card games and evening meals.
This trip we discovered the stone henge bluestone quarry at Craig Rhosyfelin, wandered on the beach with the dogs and found a wonderful art gallery at Fishguard.
Somehow as a house, Rising Sun seems to have a personality of its own! Friendly, caring and loving. Thank you Bob and Ceri X
So glad you enjoyed the warm snugness of Rising Sun, Claire, given that you picked possibly the worst week for weather of the year! Make sure you choose a better week next time!
Beautiful cottage, views and location
Perfect location on the edge of Newport, with lovely walks up carn ingli from the back garden. The views are absolutely stunning. Very comfortable cottage with lovely garden. Easy walk to town and parrog beach. Pembrokeshire (and Ceredigion) is beautiful and this is a fantastic base to explore from. Highly recommended, this our second visit!
So glad you enjoyed your second stay as much as the first! It's always dangerous to go back to somewhere you've really enjoyed the first time, so it's great that Rising Sun lived up to expectation!
Newport Town nestles in the beautiful Pembrokeshire National Park coastline, and is blessed with two beaches, an excellent range of small independent shops, restaurants, cafes and pubs and a street market on Mondays.
The magical Carn Ingli mountain is its unique backdrop. Also within easy striking distance, there is the famous Gwaun valley, the Preseli range (the source for the bluestone used at Stonehenge), many beautiful beaches, and a dramatic coastline. All this is home to stunning wildlife, ancient woods, burial chambers from previous civilisations, and many wonderful walks.
The Iron Bridge, famous for bird-watching on the Nevern estuary, Pembrokeshire coastal footpath and Parrog beach are all within a mile.
Pembrokeshire is the ideal spot to choose either a quiet tranquil break, or there are all sorts of activities close by if you have the energy!
