Let me begin by saying, we had a wonderful time on vacation and the house had everything we needed. Isidro and Rocio were awesome and very hard working. The cooked a meal for us one night which was fabulous and much less expensive than eating out. The house was large and spacious enough to accommodate our group of 5 (in fact, we could have had 1 or 2 more). However, there were 2 main drawbacks: 1) the amount of seaweed washing ashore; and 2) no AC in the main living area. Nothing can be done about the seaweed, but we were unable to locate the buoy and had no means of tying up the kayaks as we had hoped to be able to paddle out past the seaweed for swimming and snorkeling. The kayaks were great to have, but not in the best condition - as everything breaks down quickly in that environment. As far as the AC goes, we did open up the front door and sliding door and window in the back of the house which offered a nice breeze - this was the only way we could tolerate the humidity....for a limited amount of time. After a while, people retreated into their bedrooms for some relief. Having the pool right there was crucial and we all thoroughly enjoyed it - the kids swam every day we were there. Another minor item was the refrigerator was not working well. It seemed nothing really got very cold and it took forever for the ice to form. In fact, it stopped working our last day there. I'm sure the owners will replace it. The location was not bad, but we did need a car to get around. The taxis are plentiful, but it was $25 US each way to go into Tulum. Not sure about Akumal so having a car was much less expensive and convenient. I have to say, we never felt unsafe in the house or driving anywhere. We spent a good deal of time in Akumal which is such a beautiful little area. I thought it was much nicer than Tulum. There is a ton to do all within a short drive. We did not have time to do everything, but we will likely be back again in the future and will definately consider this home again. The folks from Akumal Direct were extremely responsive and had a lot of great information.
Thank you for your kind words about your stay at Casa Cavu. We appreciate your nice comments about the staff, Icidro and Rocio. They are wonderful people and always do their best to please. We are sorry for the inconvenience you experienced with the refrigerator. The owner will replace the appliance. If you do wish to stay with us again we will be happy to offer one night at no charge. We will also check the kayaks. If they also need to be replaced we will take care of that issue as well. Thank you for your helpful feedback. We appreciate your business and hope to see you again in the future. Happy travels always, Akumal Direct Reservations
Beautiful House and Great Location
We had 5 guests and another couple two door down. The house was a great central location. Pool, beach, kayaks lounge chairs were wonderful!. We arranged for a welcome dinner, which was amazing as well!
Thank you very much for your lovely feedback, Tony!
We appreciate you staying with us at Casa Cavu and we're glad to hear you've had a great stay.
We hope to have you back soon! :)
Warm regards, Akumal Direct Team
If your getting to the house late make sure to pack snacks or have food delivered. Our first night was Cheetos and vodka LOL.
We're happy to hear you enjoyed your stay at Casa Cavu and have had a night to remember :) There are a few restaurants on Tankah Bay, with the latest being open until around 10 PM. When arriving later than that we do recommend ordering groceries or stopping at a grocery store on your way from the airport. Thank you again for staying with us and we hope to see you back soon :)
Gorgeous house, wonderful stay, great location
We stayed for 5 nights with my sister, wife and 2 kids. We had perfect weather other than a stray T storm and Isidro made most of our BFs and dinners. He's a good (but not amazing cook - we stayed at a different VRBO last year and had a very talented chef so our expectations were high - but he was very personable and presentation was great.) Rocio as a cleaning lady was a godsend. Overall, enjoy the white sand, gorgeous bay, perfect pool, and tons of cenotes for great morning trips. Even a day trip to the ruins was nice. The only downside has nothing to do with the house, but the tons of seaweed that make the water murky and cover the beach in the mornings. Isidro does his best, but it's a problem for the whole Yucatan coast - we wish it would go away and so does everyone else I think too! We stopped at Playa De Carmen on our way back to the airport and it was even worse there. Rhett was also very helpful when the internet went out one day. Overall, would def. return if the seaweed situation clears up! Very good value!
We're delighted to hear you had a nice stay at Casa Cavu. The house is indeed very good value for the location and a very popular choice :) Icidro is a very valuable member of our team and we're happy to have him. He takes great care of the house and also cooks. Sargasso seaweed has been an on again and off again issue for the coast and very unpredictable. Some days there is a large influx of the seaweed to the shore while other days there's nothing. The situation is slowly improving and everyone is doing their very best to clean the beaches. We are always happy to help plan some amazing activities to do during your stay that are inland, including cenote tours, eco-parks, and jungle adventures. We hope to see you back soon, Zachary. Our family of 4 stayed at Casa Cavu for 10 wonderful, adventurous and relaxing days in June & July. My husband and I, and our children, aged 6 and 8, swam every day, played at the beach, snorkeled in the bay, kayaked, explored local restaurants (there are a few within a short walk) and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of our stay at Casa Cavu! We took a private van from the airport to the house (scheduled by the concierge) and had a rental car delivered the next day. We ventured into nearby Tulum and Akumal for day trips, restaurants, more snorkeling, ruins, hikes, monkeys and shopping. The house is well appointed, the beds are super comfortable, the kitchen has everything you need, and the A/C in the bedrooms was perfect. Rocio and Icidro made the stay extra special. Rocio kept the house clean every day and Icidro raked the beach of seaweed and cooked us two fabulous meals. The mosquitoes were really bad, but other than that we were comfortable, felt safe, and enjoyed our vacation very much! Don't hesitate to book this place, it's fantastic!
Thanks so much for the lovely comments :) We're delighted to hear you had a nice stay in Casa Cavu and we hope to see you back soon!!

Fantastic Tulum experience
We had an amazing stay at Casa Cavu! The location, right on a beautiful beach and only 10 minutes from downtown Tulum, was perfect. The house had great spaces, large rooms, excellent kitchen. The pool area was our favorite place to hang, cool off, and view the ocean through the palm trees. The caretakers Isidro and Rocio (sp?) were friendly, inviting, and cooked us a wonderful meal. This is a place we will definitely come back. Thanks for the wonderful time- Larry, Lynn, Sarah and Elisabeth Chun
Thank you, Chun family for your kind words about the staff and Casa Cavu! We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay. We so appreciate your business. It will be wonderful to welcome you back when vacation time permits. Thanks for staying with us. All the best to your family!
