A wonderful, comfortable and conveniently located lodge

  • 5 of 5

The lodge is situated in a lovely, well tended green space with plenty of garden on every side to keep our 2 young kids very happy. The inside of the lodge is wonderfully bright and clean and also well equipped with everything we needed for our week there.

We found that we were very conveniently located for short drives to supermarkets, petrol stations, beaches, towns and the many kids' activity parks that North Norfolk has to offer.

We've rented a few properties with Home Away and other companies but this was the nicest (didn't hurt that we stayed during the 2018 summer heatwave!). I can definitely see us returning at some point!

Beautiful lodge in an amazing, peaceful location.

  • 5 of 5

Best holiday in Norfolk ever! The lodge was so spacious and comfortable plus it had everything we needed. The cake on arrival was most welcome, as were the other provisions that meant shopping didn't have to be done immediately. The location of the lodge was superb. Peace and quiet made for total relaxation - just what was needed. Waking up to bird song and no drone of cars; looking out of the many windows at so much greenery; being so near to the wonderful beaches, seaside towns and unique attractions, yet feeling like we were in our own private universe when at the lodge: these all contributed to a fantastic week. We couldn't have had better weather either. When it came to our last day we just didn't want it to end! We would recommend Clayton Lodge to anyone and would like to thank the owners for all the effort they have put into making the lodge and the overall setting so lovely.

A beautiful property in a peaceful and private location.

  • 4 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Clayton Lodge. The setting is perfect. The welcome cake was appreciated, as was the milk left in the fridge and complimentary tea and coffee. The property is very spacious. It easily housed our party of 3 adults and 2 children. We made good use of the large garden area at the front of the property with our badminton set and my eldest son enjoyed cycling along the private lane. There are just some small touches that have stopped me from rating it 5 stars.

Light, spacious, peaceful and well equipped lodge style house. We loved our stay.

  • 5 of 5

Probably the best holiday house we have stayed in. We really appreciated the bathroom per bedroom, and the spacious open plan living/kitchen area. The property is in a quiet backwater, but within easy reach of the North Norfolk beaches. We all agreed that we would like to return in the future.

Easter Getaway 2018

  • 5 of 5

Clayton Lodge is an excellent base for the family. It is really well appointed and every effort has been made by the Owners to ensure that all comforts are catered for with excellent facilities and 3 x Bedrooms with 3 x Bathrooms. I would recommend it to anybody and we will definitely be looking to return, if we can get in, noting its unsurprising popularity!

Thursford is located midway between the towns of Fakenham and Holt and only six miles from Wells-next-the-Sea. It is an excellent location for a holiday, offering visitors the chance to enjoy the peace and quiet of a rural setting but also providing easy access to the many attractions in the area. The village is best known for the Thursford Collection which is a unique assembly of steam powered engines, organs and fairground rides.

Local area:

Thursford itself is renowned for the Thursford collection a unique assembly of steam-powered traction engines, organs and fairground rides. It's also the unlikely venue every year for the hugely popular Thursford Chistmas Spectacular Shows which attract audiences from across the UK. It also has a cafe and wonderful adventure playground for children.

Our local town is the wonderful Georgian Market Town of Holt where you can explore the many antique shops. Alternatively the historic religious centre of Little Walsingham is nearby or slightly further afield the wonderful selection of shops at Burnham Market.

The coast is not far away, with sailing, coastal walks, bird-life as well as the big beaches at Cley, Wells-next-the-Sea, Holkham and Brancaster. The classic 'must-do' is a visit to the 500-strong colony of wild seals on Blakeney Point. The best way is on one of the seal trip boats that run each day on the tide from Morston or Blakeney quay... it's a lovely, sheltered trip and the seals are so used to the boats that you can get very close. Tickets can be purchased on the quayside or at the Anchor Pub in Morston but it's best to book in advance.

Award-winning Pensthorpe Natural Park is a 10 minute drive which is mix of meandering nature trails, beguiling woodland walks, and a showcase for British wildlife and nature conservation. As one of the leading Norfolk attractions, it's a brilliant place to visit, with beautiful gardens, spectacular wildlife and magnificent adventure play...nature's way!

The grand estates at Holkham Hall, Felbrigg, Blickling, Houghton Hall and Sandringham are within easy reach. Or try the vintage steam train running between Holt and Sherringham.

Local restaurants:

Our nearest restaurant is The Crawfish (1 mile), a converted pub serving great Thai food. Alternatively the Chequers at Binham (4 miles) does great pub food alternatively there is a restaurant and fish and shop The Norfolk Riddle in Walsingham (3 miles). The Kings Head, in Letheringsett (5 miles) and The Wiveton Bell (6 miles) are both excellent pubs and worth making a reservation.

Alternatively do try the Old Forge in Thursford serving excellent seafood or further afield the Victoria at Holkham or Morston Hall in Morston for Michelin starred dining.
