The house is beautiful combining historic place with all the modern comforts.
The location was great, beautiful scenery, quiet and peaceful but near enough to Sedbergh for shopping. I have just one observation which might be of use to others. Although it states on the web site that the house is not wheelchair friendly, it is not suitable for those who have mobility issues. Visitors should be aware that each downstairs room has a step up or down to the next room and uneven floors in many areas. The front door could not be opened which meant that our elderly visitor had to use the kitchen door and then struggle to walk around the building to access the front garden area. However we all enjoyed our stay at this lovely location and would recommend it highly.
Great house for a relaxing time away
The property was well presented, and worked very well for our group of 3 couples, well furnished with nearly everything that was needed. Great walks from the door (Cautley Spout is worth a visit) and less than an hour into the heart of the Lake District, also great mountain biking over Bowerdale. The only negative points was that there was no where to hang coats in the utility room, and no secure bike storage, but on the whole highly recommended, we will probably be making a return visit.
Thank you Rupert for your review and glad you enjoyed your stay. Thanks too for the feedback about coat hooks - will certainly look to see where we can fit more hooks in the utility room and apologise for any inconvenience. Bike storage may be a little more challenging but will certainly look into it!
Again, many thanks and kind regards. Jane
Quirky, well appointed and comfortable. Full of character and beautiful location. Ideal for exploring local area and the dales and lakes.
So glad you liked the cottage - it is so nice to know that other people enjoy the peace and quiet and simple getaway!
An absolute joy to come back to after a day walking
In terms of position, content and layout the Catholes Farmhouse could not have been more perfect for our needs. With 7 adults, 2 babies, one 3 yr old and 3 dogs there was room for everyone to run around, play or just relax and chat. Even the television is in its own snug which meant I could still be oblivious to the World Cup!
Catholes Farmhouse is away from everything within its own peaceful grounds giving access to the River Dee and also having easy access to the River Rawthey and the Dales Way which we were walking while using the Farmhouse as our second base.
The set up of the house is perfect for both summer and winter and served as a fantastic place to come back to and discuss the exploits of our day. Everywhere was clean and tidy with a kitchen equipped for all our needs, we ate in every evening as well as having our hearty cooked breakfast before setting off to get more miles under our belts. The boot room/utility was amazingly useful for dogs, walking boots and pushchairs!
The bedrooms are lovely with plenty of room and really comfy beds, in this house sleep came very easily. With 2 en-suites and a really large bathroom there were no queues for the showers.
Communication was excellent with all queries or requests answered very swiftly and positively.
All in all we could have not had anywhere better or more suitable, we had a truly delightful stay.
Thank you so much for your kind comments and so glad that you enjoyed your holiday at East Catholes. It is a truly peaceful place and I agree, you do seem to sleep better there!
I really appreciate your comments and will forward them to the owner who will be delighted because it is his pride and joy and a small part of a beautiful English countryside!
With Very Best Wishes
A little piece of paradise!
The house was perfect for a group of family and friends to stay for a few nights. The house is loaded with character and charm. Plenty of space to move, lots of bathrooms, and large kitchen. The location was beautiful and close to my local family so I could walk to visit if need be. Every dinner was taken at the golf club - food was delicious and the folk there super friendly. I highly recommend this farmhouse for groups who enjoy the outdoors and appreciate tranquility and magnificent scenery.
Thank you for your lovely comments about your stay at East Catholes. It is always a delight to know that people who stay there enjoy it. I very much agree that it is the scenery and tranquillity that particularly appeals but am delighted that you enjoyed your meals at the golf club a few metres walk away! Always nice to have a facility like that when on holiday! Again, thank you for your positive comments - much appreciated!
