Overview

About the property

New Seafront villa, newly build, 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, private pool

Located on the Southern Crete coast, an untouched area with picturesque scenery, where you will find a small selection of tavernas scattered along the coastline flanked by magnificent sandy beaches. The traditional villages of the area, the long history of the local venetian castle, the serenity and the tranquil atmosphere is the idyllic setting of Mary beach villa Tria.

Mary beach villa Tria is a modern, brand new, beachfront, 3 bedroom villa with private infinity pool, overlooking the unique Libyan sea, literally a few steps away from the sandy isolated beach of Laki. It is very close to 3 taverns, while homemade cooking based on traditional recipes and local fresh products, can be prepared, on demand, by the hospitable owners.

The villa with high modern and luxury standards is all in one level (110 square meters). It consists of a big bright and airy lounge with a comfortable sofa (which can open as an additional bed if required), with TV set, dvd player and WiFi coverage. Next is the modern open plan kitchen with ceramic top, oven, fridge and freezer, dishwasher and all useful utensils.

Three nicely decorated bedrooms, one of them with an en-suite shower/wc and a family bathroom with shower/wc and 2 sinks, completes the comfortable layout of the villa. The master bedroom has a big double bed with views to the sea and direct access to the pool and the veranda. The second has 2 single beds and the third a double bed. All bedrooms have air-condition units.

The sitting room leads onto the pool with a sliding door. The private infinity pool is 27 square meters in size. A covered terrace which is next to the pool is the ideal place to enjoy your lunch or dinner with extensive sea views!

This villa is the perfect choice for a quiet beach focused family holiday or for Honeymooners who wish to enjoy a very romantic and peaceful setting. The privacy and exclusiveness of the setting and it's surroundings is priceless.

For bigger groups, families or parties, the sister villas Mary Beach Ena and Mary Beach Dio are available on the same grounds.

The village of Fragokastello is just 5 km away where more amenities can be found including supermarkets, restaurants, ATM, etc and the traditional small village of Skaloti some 2 km away where a mini market can be found.

The Fragokastello castle itself is a living history and a window to a vivid and revolutionary past! The remains of the castle is not very different from the way it looked when it was first built in 1371. Above the main entrance there is a sculptured slate with the Lion of Saint Mark and two Venetian feudal coat of arms.

The view to the impressive White Mountains is breathtaking and inviting for daily excursions. The European Hiking Footpath (E4) passes through Fragokastello. It passes through the beautiful gorge of Imbros and crosses the gorge of Kalikratis, which both are easy to visit and hike.

The seawater of the area is crystal clear, shallow and warm and it is a marvellous combination with the sand dunes that are formed and an opportunity for many hours of play and leisure.

According to the local legend, every year, on the anniversary of the battle of Fragokastello (4-6 June), at dawn, you can see a long procession of visions. Figures with their weapons, walkers and riders, marching from the church of Saint Charalambos towards the fort. The phenomenon is observed when the sea is calm and there is moisture in the atmosphere and it lasts about 10 minutes. The figures reach the sea and disappear into it, with the first rays of the sun. They are called Drosoulites.

Lovely Quiet Neighborhood

  • 5 of 5

The villa was very nice and the neighborhood was off the beaten path. Just what we wanted. The Taverna next door was excellent. We would come back to this lovely location.

Modern clean well maintained property and grounds but pricey for the location.

  • 4 of 5

Overall we enjoyed staying here. There is a full time maintenance person who also greets you upon arrival, looks after the pool, and any mechanical issues with the property, and a chef on site who will cook meals for you in his private kitchen at prices similar to those of the local taverna. The location is remote however and a car is absolutely necessary. Due to the topography of the island a day out to the main towns on the north coast involves a long 1.5 -2 hour tortuous drive on very winding roads through the central mountain range. Beware at all times of Greeks coming the other way going really fast around blind corners on your side of the road! There are one or two TV stations in English and no nightlife. The Wi Fi is weak in the lounge but strong in one bedroom which we dubbed "the office". The beach is somewhat stony but never crowded, sometimes even deserted except for the occupants of the three villas but the water crystal clear. For a get away from the crowds holiday this is it. The kitchen is sparsely equipped, for example only two wine glasses between six people. We broke down and bought a frying pan. The bedrooms are nicely air conditioned but the main lounge/living area is not and gets very hot even in early June. The doors do open wide but that lets in the flies which are terrible until sundown so you have to choose, heat or flies. An A/C in this area would be a HUGE upgrade. A huge plus for the property is the family run Kioni tavern right next door. It is a gem! Breakfast, lunch, dinner or anytime for wine! Really friendly people with reasonable prices and good basic home cooked Greek food, who speak enough English. Their tables are right on the sea/beach front and the views are amazing. Truly excellent. We tried several others but for service alone they were the best. They even contacted a local fisherman for us, who picked us up at our beach and took us out for an hour long trip along the coast at a bargain price. After two weeks of dining with them it felt like leaving friends behind.

A lovely beach front property

  • 4 of 5

The property is in a wonderful position almost on the beach. It is spacious, plenty of room for 6 people, and clean. We enjoyed the private pool although found it rather cold so,early on in the season. The outside space was more than adequate for us with 2 small children and the al fresco eating was fine under the shade. The villa is well equipped with a large fridge freezer and adequate cooking facilities, although a barbecue would have been welcome. As it was we ate at the convenient local tavernas every day and only prepared cold meals. All in all a very successful holiday.

The only disappointment was the beach. I was hoping it would be sandier for,the children to play. As it was, they only wanted to stay on the beach for, short periods. However, as the villa was so close it didn't present a big problem as we could leave the bulk of the toys etc on the beach while we came back to the villa for lunch.

Absolutely beautiful and quiet villa with magnificent views

  • 5 of 5

We really loved our stay at the villa. The villa itself was beautiful and the views were superb. The peace was lovely, with very few people around we mostly had the beach to ourselves. The family run restaurant next door was great, the food was delicious and the family were very friendly and welcoming. We would definitely return to the villa and have in fact already discussed our return. The one criticism we had was it would have been nice to have been given some basics like soap washing powder, tea and coffee and also things like the kettle could have been of better quality. However it has not changed our discussion in our rating because the villa was just what we wanted.

Wonderful new villa and beautiful location

  • 5 of 5

Absolutely wonderful. Stayed for a week with our two teenage children and we all loved it. Everything was fantastic: the villa was beautiful - well furnished and equipped, clean, very comfortable - and the location was superb, right by the beach and with glorious sea views. The pool was kept beautifully clean with regular maintenance from the caretaker. The location was wonderfully quiet too which suited us perfectly (although it was the very start of the season). Can highly recommend Zorbas taverna, just a couple of minutes walk away - serves absolutely delicious food, not only home made but mostly produced on their own farm. Friendly owners and English-speaking. Nearby, can strongly recommend the Imbros gorge walk: park at Komitades, get a taxi to the top and a superb walk down.

On the south coast of Crete, on a magnificent white sandy beach, stands one of the most beautiful Venetian fortresses of the island, Frangokastello.

It is located approximately 170 km from Heraklion, 70 km from Rethymnon, 80 km from Chania, 12 km from Chora Sfakion en route to Plakias.

Frangokastello was named after the castle that the Venetians built right on the beach in 1371, in order to protect themselves from pirates and from the constant revolts of the locals. The Venetians called it Castle Franco.

Today, Frangokastello is a small, but developing, community, with nice beaches covered in sand dunes, and limited, but increasing, tourist facilities.

Frangokastello, together with the neighboring villages of Kapsodasos, Kalikratis and Patsianos, belong to the municipality of Sfakia.
