Grey’s Cottage is a stylish and cosy three bedroom, two bathroom cottage.

Grey’s Court Cottages – Dovecote, Owl, Yew Tree, Stable and Grey’s – are a wonderful suite of immaculately renovated cottages in the heart of Southrop; one of the Cotswold’s loveliest villages. Four of the cottages have three double bedrooms and two bathrooms with the fifth, Yew, being a perfectly formed two bedroom, one bathroom cottage.

The attention to detail is immaculate and the Grey’s Court renovation not only reflects the heritage and tradition of the classic English country cottage but brings it seamlessly into the twenty first century. And with more than a little elegance and style.

A seven year labour of love, Grey’s Court Cottages are some of the finest cottages in all of England and are proud to have used English and local suppliers were possible; including Little Greene paints and Lewis & Wood fabrics and wallpapers.

Access to the cottages is via a stone pathway leading from Eastleach Lane to their respective porches and front gardens. All the cottages back onto courtyard gardens – equipped with outdoor dining furniture – which in turn lead out onto a full width lawn planted with Yew topiaries; to the rear of which there is a gravel courtyard set within cotswold drystone walls which provides ample private parking.

Grey’s Cottage is a three bedroom, two bathroom cottage that has both a cosy sitting room - featuring a Clearview wood burning stove - and a snug come media room with a 50′ Samsung LCR screen.

Grey’s Cottage uses the Lewis & Wood Royal Oak fabrics and wallpaper – featuring the towering spire of St Mary’s Church in nearby Tetbury, birds, deer and a peaceful fisherman under a majestic oak tree – and their tartan throws as both throws and for the headboards in the lower ground floor twin bedroom.

Both bathrooms have a cast iron roll top bath and also a large power shower. The hot water system is state of the art and provides copious amounts of hot water for simultaneous bathing.

The cottages are at the centre of a quintessentially beautiful Cotswold village and within a literal two minute stroll of 'The Swan' which provides gastronomic delights … meticulous attention to detail, with an expert eye on style and comfort … full of quirky details … a luxury 'home from home' without losing the Cotswold cottage character. Furnishings are to the highest standard and the beds and bedding are heavenly ... modern and contemporary design seamlessly (meld) with the period cottages -we won't spoil the surprises - but recommend everyone to visit! The owners and housekeeper were friendly, helpful and passionate to ensure guests will have a perfect and memorable stay.”

Lovely cottages, shame that the owner was so rude.

We rented 2 of the cottages over the past weekend - 2 families staying for 3 nights. Enjoyed the pleasant accommodation and the lovely pub down the street. On the morning of our departure we were in our cars getting ready to leave when the owner strode over from his house. He looked irritated and upset. I rolled down my window. Here is the conversation:

Me - hi

Him - where are the keys?

Me - uh, they are in the house.

Him - where in the house?

Me - on the kitchen table.

Him - can you come in and show me

We went into one of the cottages and the keys are lying on the table - the only thing in the table. He again asks where are the keys. I am wondering whether he has a handicap but I pout at them and say, there are the keys. He says that they are not the keys and I tell him that hey are the keys that the agent gave us in our arrival.

The whole interaction was very unpleasant. His cottages are pleasant but by no means unique. We will never stay there again as there are plenty of other places to stay in the Cotswolds and hopefully we will be able to find one with a friendly owner

Owner's Response: I was disappointed to read as I do not think the DL's stay could be categorised as unfriendly, we went above and beyond to accommodate. Check-in time is 4pm and as per the pre-arrival information, "Caroline (house manger, the ‘agent’ referred to) will meet you at 4pm unless previously arranged. Caroline’s contact number is xx. If you think you might be delayed ... please contact her soonest ...” But only after her leaving a message was she told arrival would be 11am next day, so she had to rearrange her Good Friday. They took two cottages but due to prior bookings these were not side by side but realising that would be better Caroline on arrival graciously negotiated - with my okay - with another guest to facilitate. They were also aware that dining more than eight is not possible and were happy to book but when they then wished to dine eight + in one room I again accommodated, allowing rooms to be reconfigured. Booking emails sent before payment show clearly arrival and check out times as 4pm/10am but when Caroline went around at 10am all was quiet. After waiting a short time she knocked to be told that they had not been ‘told' so would be leaving around 12.30pm. As Caroline had an Easter Monday family lunch it was fortunate I was at home and could step in to cover departure. I met them in the car park, sitting in their car with engine running about to leave. I asked if they had the keys or where they were. It was hard to hear over the sound of the engine but was told they were on the kitchen tables. I went into the first cottage and they were there and then went to check the second; which is when Mrs DL and another lady followed me in. I did ask if the keys on that table were the keys as all my cottages have a ‘Welcome’ fob and this one did not, so not recognising it I needed to double check as I do not check guests in or out. During this exchange I felt no friction or annoyance and when I asked if everything was good with the stay the response was very positive. Given the above I am naturally disappointed with the review and especially the ‘handicap’ reference, as whatever the circumstances, that sort of comment is not warranted or appropriate in any way. As a final note, I gave the DLs the opportunity to read my reply before posting however they did not ask me to amend or retract any part, said that they did not - and would not have written such - and that it was written by a Robin Cruickshank who was one of their guests but who I never met.
