ernlea is an expansive 4-bedroom property that is an exceptionally high standard. The ground floor has an open-plan kitchen with a range master with gas hobs and electric double oven. The kitchen has full-length windows with spectacular views and lots of natural light. An open-plan sitting room with dining area and wood-burning stove have elegant décor. The ground floor also has a larger dining room, which has a large dining table and lovely modern style. There are two well-sized bedrooms on the ground floor. One with private shower room, and one with an en-suite with separate bath and shower.
The main entrance to the property is via striking French doors in a porch that leads into the main hallway. An additional entrance is located to the side of the property next to the utility room. The house is heated by a boiler which heats under-floor heating throughout the ground floor and all hot water, and radiators upstairs. There is external access from the kitchen and lounge to a large decked area. Adjacent to the kitchen is a little snug with large flatscreen TV and comfortable seating corner to keep children and adults entertained when things get hectic in the living room.
The upper floor of the property consists of two bedrooms with stunning views from south facing dormer windows at the front and velux skylights to the rear. A large walk-in shower room with electric under-floor heating is towards the rear of the upper floor. One bedroom is a king size, and one bedroom is a double bed and single bed.
Crubenbeg Highland Holiday Cottages as a whole is an imposing white building that is more than 220 years old. The property was originally used as a working farm and is surrounded by three acres of gardens and grounds that offer wonderful walks and places to explore. There is also a fenced south-facing kitchen-garden that produces large quantities of soft fruit, vegetables and herbs. A separate south-facing walled orchard area is maturing and providing more fruit each year.
Crubenbeg offers a range of outdoor facilities to keep guests of all ages entertained. Younger visitors will enjoy the games room with its football table and there is also a kids' swing park/play area. We also have our own pond, Lochan, which is home to brown & rainbow trout; guests are welcome to use the fly-fishing rods provided. There is a golf practice area too and Crubenbeg provides clubs and balls for guests to use in the summer. There are also BBQs available, and a laundry room with washing and drying facilities (paid for by token). The price includes towels and linen, and a large basket of logs for the wood burning stove. In addition, included in the price, is electricity and gas for cooking.
We stayed at the Fernlea House for 5 nights while exploring Northern Scotland. The house had everything we could possibly want. The kitchen is extremely modern and well outfitted, the bedrooms very comfortable, and the bathrooms were clean and modern. After 10 days on the road, the laundry facilities were very useful.
The views of the surrounding countryside were beautiful, and there was ample outdoor areas outfitted with tables, chairs etc. The hosts were friendly, welcoming and very helpful.
