This is a beautiful cottage with lovely Scottish fabrics and furnishings. It was warm and cosy and the kitchen was adequately equipped. The town of Dornoch is a great place with a lovely café and whiskey shop, take away food shops and pubs where you can eat or just have a drink. It is also a good central point for visiting this part of Scotland.
This was my second stay in a year at Dun Brae. Again the cottage was clean, tastefully appointed and the garden a delight to sit in of a sunny evening. There is everything you need for a comfortable, hassle free stay. Well equipped kitchen, cosy lounge and excellent position for the beach, town and golf course. Just one point of note is that if you are very tall the upstairs bedroom and shower/bath can be a challenge, but then it is part of the character of the cottage. I wouldn't want to stay anywhere else.
We were advised a week before our holiday date that the boiler had broken and it would not be operational 3 electric heaters were installed downstairs however the weather was cold and the bedrooms were very cold and we had to put extra coats and our blanket on the beds to keep warm.
The bedroom downstairs had to be made up on arrival and I was under the impression that both bedrooms were upstairs.
The Wi-Fi did not work and although the housekeeper said she would phone on the Tuesday to check all was ok no call was made..
Even though I have mentioned the above we still enjoyed our stay and the housekeeper was very pleasant and full of apology because she did not phone.
I had the perfect holiday in Dun Brae cottage, it was just as it looked on the photos and more than lived up to expectations. It was immaculately clean, everything you could want was provided and the gadgets in the property were high spec, easy to use and worked. The cottage was furnished to a very high standard, I had a warm welcome and could contact the house keeper easily at any time to query anything. The only slight inconvenience was the low height of the shower but this was very minor in the overall quality of the accommodation. Location excellent for the village centre, beach and golf course. Am looking at dates to return already.
Well located and spotlessly clean with everything you need for a short self catering stay. Character cottage. Easy parking. Very comfortable throughout and well appointed
We were warmly welcomed by the caretaker. Flowers, chocolate and shortbread biscuits were kindly left for us to enjoy. The location is excellent, very short walk to shops and the golf course.
Follow the A9 north from Inverness across the Kessock Bridge and continue towards Tain. Take the second exit at the Dornoch Bridge roundabout across the bridge. Continue on the A9 and take the A949 to Dornoch. Pass the cathedral on your left and then take a left at the T junction. Take the second right, continue past the Dornoch Gallery and then turn right. Follow the road round to the garden with the large green garage. The back of the cottage is in front of the garage.
