Much more than what we expected

  • 5 of 5

we were a group of 9 people ( ages between 10-49). we spent a great two days. Beautiful property with amenities and plenty to do nearby,it was much more than what we expected. The provided photos don't show the real beauty of this hidden gem. This place is a great vacation getaway for all ages, would love to come back again. Finally, Rod was wonderful host being available via phone the whole time.

Water fun for the whole family

  • 4 of 5

The family (15 people, ages 7-67) returned to Rod's cabin on the lake. We have been anticipating a return since our initial visit last year. Although the space fits our family well, we were disappointed to discover that the cleaning crew had not been at the property since the last tenants vacated. I wish I had called Rod on Friday when we discovered this, but I called him on Monday before I left instead. He told me he would have sent the crew out to rectify the situation ASAP if I had. (Instead, my sisters and I just pitched in and took care of the problem.) He was very apologetic as well. We love, love, love this place...and I am sure we will probably return, but some of the recommended repairs and maintenance had not been completed. Some had. The bridge had been repaired, but the ladders on the docks were still both loose (one even fell off while we were there). I think that Rod trusts his crew to get the job done...and they don't always do that. We had a great time, but the lack of clean linens, full trash cans, dirty dishes, and lots of spider webs, wasp nests, and bird nests populating the outside areas really put a damper in our trip. As I said, we will probably be back; we have too much fun not to go back. But some serious maintenance, especially outdoors, is needed for this rental. This property is a one of a kind place; I hope in the next year that it gets the attention it deserves.

Retreat Weekends

  • 5 of 5

My partner and I have been renting this cabin at least one weekend per month for the last 5 years for spiritual retreats. We love it! There's space, indoor and outdoor, for anything you can think of. We love the privacy. The cabin has always been cleaned prior to our arrival - the exterior is always neat and tidy. We are always blessed to see a variety of wildlife, deer, great horned owls, hawks, turtles, etc. Because the cabin is in the country and not lived in 24/7 we expect that periodically there will be maintenance and wildlife issues that come up. ANYTIME, we have ever had any issues, Rod is quick to take care of any maintenance issues. It is obvious that Rod loves the property and takes pride in how it looks. We use both, the main house and the bunkhouse every weekend that we rent the property. Our students love it! We may never leave Rod! Thanks for 5 wonderful years and many more to come!

Lake house

  • 1 of 5

We booked the house several months ago but when we go there the ac was not on and the house was 89. I was 102 that weelend so we were all very hot. We arrived at 12:00 and we tried to set the ac but it wpould not work. We called the owner and he said he would try to get someone out there to fix it. At 5:00 the owner called and said evebody was booked up but he was working on getting somone out there. He finally overed us the use of the bunk house because the ac was working over there. The air finally got fixed by about 8:30 so we could go back in the main house to sleep. The propery was full of wasps and spiders. I feel that if you are going to rent the property you sjould make sure it is ready. I have MS and it was very hard on me and all the girls to be in a house for so long without air. The place is beautiful but they need to get it ready when it is to be rented. We were not offered a discount or anthing.

Family Fun!

  • 4 of 5

We booked Rod's cabin on the lake and the neighboring bunkhouse for a long weekend... there were a total of 15 family members in attendance, ranging in age from 6 to 65. We had a fantastic time! There is far more space for gathering than could possibly be pictured in the photos. We enjoyed the back deck (directly over the water...where three little turtles come to visit!), the front porch with its rockers and reclining chairs, and the living area, which has lots of seating. Using the breakfast bar, we even had places for everyone to sit at meal times. Rod provides everything you might need for a family adventure (beach towels, extra lawn chairs, paddle boats, just to name a few). Not mentioned anywhere are the roll-away beds, which can be found in closets of both the main house and the bunk house. We brought our popup camper for extra sleeping, but it didn't even get set up. There are at least five additional beds (some twin, some full) available for the kids. I give this rental four out of five stars because we did have to eliminate all of the wasps and their nests outside (especially in the front) and the twin beds (where I was sleeping) weren't super comfy (I will bring my foldable mattress topper next time!), but everything else was superb. Note that none of these "downers" have kept us from returning; I literally booked our upcoming family get- together while sitting at the table of the rental. Bring paddles if you intend to use the fishing boat, bring floaties or inner tubes to enjoy the water (we're bringing these and a couple of kayaks for our next trip!), and bring your sense of adventure...if you want a family fun adventure, you will find it here. Thanks, Rod, for letting us use your property this summer! We had a ball!

GIRLS WEEKEND

  • 5 of 5

Just spent an AWESOME weekend with "the girls" at this fantastic lodge. From the moment we pulled through the gate, we were overwhelmed with the lodge, the lake, the privacy, everything about this place. All 8 of us slept well, with 2 using the bunkhouse, which was just as awesome as the main house! Following a fun Friday afternoon, we went into Arlington for breakfast at Carolyn's. This too was a unique experience. We were treated like royalty and the food was fantastic. Of course, 8 strange women waking into a small town cafe will always draw attention ! The only down side to the whole weekend was a late winter storm dropping 4-5 inches on Sunday morning but we were actually wishing for more so we could spend another day there. Plans are already being made to return at a later date. This is at the top of our list for girlfriend getaways. Thanks so much to the owner for sharing his little piece of paradise with us. !!
