A peaceful retreat for a summer break
Thick stone walls make the property cool in the summer; despite the woodburner, I wouldn't choose it for a cold weather stay, because there are signs of damp and you'd have to pay plenty for wood to be supplied - or bring your own. But for us, in mid-summer, it was perfect. Extremely peaceful, a well-equipped kitchen, two bathrooms, a good shower, etc. Small negatives: the bed pillows were dreadful - nasty, hard foam rubber. Luckily there were two softer ones. If you are particular about comfort at night, bring your own pillows and a duvet. The TV and wi-fi never had a good enough signal to function, but who cares? We spent our time resting, exploring nearby Monsanto and Idanha-a-Nova, reading, cooking, and walking. Only two days, but very refreshing to the spirit. The owners could not have been more helpful, and were in contact several times, although they live in Lisboa. Thanks to them and Sra. D. Graça, who gave us the keys and chatted with us. I would recommend this property to others for warm weather stays. Very interesting locale - Roman, Visigoth, Suebi, Templar and other historical remains around Idanha a Velha, plus the vast boulders of (tourist magnet) Monsanto. Close to the Spanish border, so good for shopping excursions and further adventures, too.
