This traditional fisherman’s cottage in the scenic Black Isle is fully modernised to a high standard yet retains much of its late 19th century character. Situated in a quiet street in the village of Avoch, on the shores of the Beauly Firth, Margaret Street Cottage is ideal for a relaxing Highland holiday, offering comfortable, well-equipped self-catering accommodation in a peaceful setting.

Avoch has a convenience store, restaurant, pub and take-away restaurants, and Inverness is only twenty minutes away. Fortrose and Rosemarkie are a short drive away, where you’ll find a lovely links golf course, a renowned dolphin watching spot and a sandy beach.

Accommodation & Facilities

Ground floor: Lounge: three piece suite, wood burning stove, coffee table, Freeview colour TV and DVD player, plus a selection of DVDs, books and games.

Kitchen/diner: modern kitchen with electric cooker, microwave, fridge, freezer, toaster, kettle, and a dining table with seating for six.

Bathroom: fully modernised bathroom with electric over-bath shower, basin, WC and heated towel rail.

Upper floor:

Bedrooms: double bedroom and twin bedroom with bedside cabinets, table lamps and clothes storage units. The twin room has a small fold down bed suitable for a young child.

Outside:

The property has an enclosed and secluded garden, an outside drying area and a patio with table and chairs.

There is parking outside the cottage and additional parking less than 50 metres away.

Bed linen, towels, electricity and logs for the stove are included in the price.

Up to two well behaved dogs are welcome at no extra charge.

No smoking is permitted within the holiday home.

Short breaks are available and any-day entry for weekly bookings.

Beautifull Black Isle

Lovely week with my dog.

The cottage was great, cosy and warm especially with the log burner, and has a back garden for the dog.

All supplies you need were there including a hairdryer!

The location is great very close to a dog friendly beach and great for getting around to other destinations. Locals really friendly.

I didn't try the pub so not sure what it is like but good takeaway food in the village.

Great variety of restaurants fairly nearby but I cooked at home as well.

Just one thing for me I would have liked curtains in the bedroom to shut out the streets lights as I'm a light sleeper. The blinds had some gaps in them.

Otherwise I will go back again as it was perfect for me and my dog.

Excellent fisherman's cottage

The property was very clean and welcoming with all that we needed for our stay. A wood burning stove made sure that the lounge area was snug and the bedrooms were also lovely and warm. Welcome as we had snow and frosty nights while we were there!

Our dog loved the local beaches and our only disappointment was that it was the wrong time of year for seeing dolphins.

Care has been taken by the owner to think of the small things and that led to a very enjoyable stay.

A lovely holiday cottage in a fantastic location.

The cottage is ideal for a break with family or friends. Lovely, well-equipped kitchen; comfortable sitting room and clean, comfortable bedrooms. Lovely patio out the back. Ideal for a break beside the sea.

New Year at Avoch

We had a very nice but quiet New Year in the cottage at Margaret Street.

The cottage was very comfortable and warm despite the time of the year. The kitchen is very well fitted out although we did have a small issue with the hot tap on our last day but with the help of a neighbour , it was sorted quickly and a note left for the owner.

We had enjoyable trips to Cromarty , Inverness and Fortrose inc walking the old railway line between Avoch and Fortrose.

The only downside was that the details on the Gael website said that Free WiFi was available in the cottage but , in fact , there wasn't any WiFi, Although not a great issue it would have been nice to have it as additional convenience.

A perfect country cottage

This accommodation was my favourite on a 4 week trip from Australia.

The cottage was clean, well cared for & provided everything we needed including wood for a cosy fire. The location was a perfect country village... great food at the pub & a brilliant fish & chip shop for a takeaway meal. It was a short drive to Inverness & a couple of hours to the Isle of Skye. I enjoyed the fact that there was no WiFi!!!!

The host was very helpful . All in all I'd stay there again.

Car: recommended

Travelling north on the A9, cross the Kessock Bridge and continue on the A9 for approximately 3 miles. Turn right at the sign for ‘Black Isle, Munlochy’. Drive through Munlochy, turning right at the T junction when you leave the village and follow the signs for Avoch. Drive through Avoch and turn right shortly after the convenience store onto Margaret Street – the cottage, no 17, is the 3rd on the right.
