Why Jerry Kasunic chose East Central Washington

This property offers the best of both worlds: being on the bold coast for hiking, birding, and solitude, as well as being close to fishing villages and towns (Lubec, Cutler, Eastport, Campobello, or Machias) for musical events, art and trade shows.

What makes this chalet unique

The simple beauty of the Bay of Fundy and the nature tied to the land (Bold Coast) is well worth a trip to our home.

Beautiful, private, chalet, with amazing views!

  • 5 of 5

Deb and Jerry's Chalet was the perfect location and fit for an incredible week! The chalet provided amazing views both inside and out and outfitted with everything you could possibly need and more. Whether we were relaxing at the chalet or going on one of the many hikes, we found the location, view and atmosphere to be a perfect fit for our family. The chalet was neat and clean and set up well for a family. We explored the near by beach and harbor and spent time skipping stones, fishing, and just watching the lobster boats pass. We even saw a spectacular fireworks display!

We have been going to Lubec every year now since 2006 and the chalet is probably our favorite destination thus far. There is so much to do and see near by, one week just isn't enough. Our family had a blast hiking, exploring, watching the seals, whales, porpoises, and eagles, seeing local sites and shops. It was a wonderful week and we're hoping to get back this fall. Be sure to check out Deb and Jerry's shop "Northern Tides" as well for great Maine products, excursion advice, or even for a little friendly conversation.

Thanks Deb and Jerry for a spectacular week!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your kind words, and we are so glad to read that the whole family enjoyed their stay at our home as well as within Lubec. We do hope that you are able to visit us next year and explore some more the Bold Coast, Campobello Island, and the surrounding area. Take care and stay in touch, Jerry and Deb.

Realxing getaway

  • 4 of 5

Overall, this is a wonderful place to spend a quiet, relaxing vacation. The owners and locals are very welcoming and the location is beautiful. The only downside to this location is that there are limited selection for eating out and shopping. Also, you cannot access the water from the house (not really waterfront). There is water behind the house, but you cannot get to it. There is a small, private beach down the road that you can access, but the other homeowners that have access also were not very welcoming. Jerry and his wife were very sorry for the inconvenience, but it made it difficult to enjoy the water. Just an FYI - if traveling in August, the weather is very cool and not too warm to swim :)

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for taking the time to write a comment. Your complements about the house are truly appreciated. It's good to know that you found it to be a relaxing get-away. We understand the confusion about "ocean front" and "Bold Coast." The house indeed comes with 160 feet of ocean frontage, but it is the iconic Maine Bold Coast: rocky cliffs, 20 foot tides, pine trees. We tried to take honest photos from the house to show the lay of the land, but we'll try to do better. In fact, we hope to have some additional photos posted within the week. As for our neighbors, we've discussed hospitality and generosity with them and hope that there will be no more unfortunate encounters. As a final note about swimming in the Bay of Fundy. You're correct. The Atlantic Ocean this far north never really warms up. With all that said, thanks again for an honest and hopefully helpful comment! Have a wonderful Summer 2016! Jerry and Deb

Long Island NY

Wonderful jumping off point, excellent property.

  • 5 of 5

The house was spotless and exactly as advertised. Contact with the owners was easily established. You can walk to the beach roughly 1/2 mile away; it's further down the gravel road and VERY quiet; you will likely have it to yourself. We watched seals from that beach! As we arrived, a bald eagle flew over; one of many we got to see right from the house. I had specifically asked about stargazing; the night sky was the best I've ever seen, and we were able to watch over 20 meteorites in an hour! The nights were SILENT; those looking for a quiet time away will be well-rewarded. We went to Campobello Island, took a puffin cruise with Bold Coast Charters, and ventured up to New Brunswick several times, including to take a whale watch out of St. Andrews By The Sea (an adorable town!). I took it as a personal mission to compare/contrast every lobster roll in the area! This property was perfect for my husband and myself.

Owner's Response: We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay, the surrounding area, the silent nights with the meteor showers (which are my personal favorites evenings too). In addition, we are so glad to read that you took advantage of the local fisherman/restaurants as well as our Canadian neighbors and their local culture. We hope to see you again next year and stay in touch, Jerry and Debbie.

5th time in a row, just as wonderful as the first.

  • 5 of 5

Jerry & Deb,

Not much to say that I haven't said in the previous 4 trips but here goes. Absolutely loved our trip again this year. This was the second year we brought our parents with us and they've fallen in love with it up there just like we have.

It gets harder and harder to leave every year. It's just amazing up there, the house is wonderfully relaxing, great views from the deck, etc. We miss it terribly and are already planning next year's trip. I can't say enough good things about our time spent there. We're hoping in the future we might be able to stay 2 weeks as 1 just isn't enough.

Thanks for another great week!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for the kind words and we are grateful that you and your parents have enjoyed your stay at our home, the town, and region's attractions that you have fallen in love with over the years. We look forward to seeing you again next year and I would agree with you, two weeks is probably a better time line to enjoy all of the area's activities and just to relax to enjoy the nature surrounding the house.

Love, Love, Love it!!

  • 5 of 5

We were hesitant to take a long car ride with 3 small children and rent a house but we were so happy we took on the challenge! The kids were even more excited with their "new home" than we were. So peaceful, comfortable, clean, homey-all with amazing views all day every day. Jerry and Debbie were so helpful leading up to our visit, and the house had everything we needed! It truly was like having a home away on vacation. We were so sad when our week was over. The kids still talk about "our house" in Maine!! Thank you for such a wonderful stay!!

Owner's Response: This is one of the best compliments that we could receive when children are calling our home, their "new Maine home." We were very excited to read that the kids (and parents) enjoyed themselves and the home everything they needed. We cannot wait to see you again, and if you have time, send us some Halloween pictures of the kids, we'd love to see them dressed up. Take care and keep in touch.

A dream house for vacation

  • 5 of 5

This is almost a perfect dream house for our vacation, providing exactly (more than exactly) what we want - complete tranquility and privacy, away from people (yet the drive to town only takes 15 minutes), beautiful scenery, viewing the starry sky including the milky way (depends on weather), seeing wild animals (we saw birds and hares), short walk to beach (though a rocky beach), comfortable home (bed, rooms, kitchen), spacious living area with natural lighting and unobstructed view, a large sundeck. What's more, the hosts are very friendly and helpful. No regret if you are looking for such vacation homes. A week is too short for us. Advice: Make sure to arrive before sunset!

Owner's Response: Wow! Thank you so much for such a glowing recommendation! We're so glad that you were able to experience the tranquility of the home while spending your days exploring Maine's Bold Coast. It was wonderful meeting you all and we hope that you'll be able to return soon for an even longer stay. Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience with us. We hope you enjoyed enough local lobsters, clams, blueberries and other Lubec treats to last you 'til you can return. Sincerely, Jerry and Deb
