Westward Ho! is a popular traditional seaside village which has seen significant investment over the last few years. Ideally located to explore North Devon, the village has restaurants, cafes, bars, takeaways, supermarkets and local shops together with plenty of holiday activities from relaxing on the beach through surfing, walking, rock-pooling, go-carting, crazy golf and amusement arcades.
The apartment is fully furnished with leather and oak in the main living areas. For 2016 we have installed a new leather corner suite with seating for five. There is an oak dining table and four chairs. The kitchen has granite worktops and a full range of integrated appliances. The master bedroom has a king size bed (5 feet wide) and en-suite bathroom whilst the twin bedroom has two single beds (each is 3 feet wide). In addition there is a separate shower room with a walk in shower. Gas central heating means that the apartment makes a great base for a holiday at any time of the year.
Please note that the master bedroom has been installed with a new king size bed (5 feet wide) at the end of May 2016. This is of the same design as the double bed shown in the pictures and has a M&S 1500 pocket spring mattress.
Our property manager provides a full meet and greet service. She has been our property manager for 3 years and, as she lives in the village, she has a good knowledge of the local area.
Margaret and Bill Hookings are both retired and live in a small village in Essex. We try to get to use the apartment about 4 weeks every year and the views from the balcony still have that wow factor whatever time of the year we visit.
We have been successfully letting the apartment for holidays since early 2010. This has previously been through a holiday letting company where it was graded 5 stars. However we have moved to HomeAway to provide more flexibility for using the apartment ourselves.
Margaret and Bill Hookings purchased this apartment in 2009
Over 25 years ago we brought our children to Westward Ho! during a holiday. We all loved the village and found it difficult to get them off of the beach. In 2009, having retired, we were searching for a holiday apartment by the sea in Devon and Cornwall. We revisited Westward Ho! and found what we had been looking for - a fantastic apartment by the sea in a lovely friendly village. We viewed the apartment then retired to Tea on the Green to read the details, where we had one of the best cream teas we have ever had. An hour later we had decided to purchase and have had no regrets.
Rarely found, this modern apartment is on the seafront with uninterrupted views over the beach and sea. It is a single storey apartment with lift access making it suitable for all ages. We have had many guests over the last 6 years ranging from families with small children through to more mature guests (eldest we know of was 95 years old) who simply loved to relax and enjoy the views. Furnished to a high standard it provides a home from home atmosphere. The secure underground car park and video entry system mean that our guests can fully relax during their stay. Last but no means least - Tea on the Green is only 100 metres away!
Our 5th Consecutive year is testament enough to why we love this beautiful apartment. Everything you need and a view we love so much. The children love the beach and surfing on the sea. We will be back again in 2016!
We love Westward Ho! anyway. But to stay at Horizon view apartments made our latest trip even more wonderful. Met by a friendly, helpful manager to show us around the stunning apartment that would be our home from home for the next 3 nights. Clean, modern, milk in the fridge, tea, coffee and tablets to use the dishwasher and washing machine, everything we may of needed was here. Comfortable beds, the master bedroom having the best view I think I've ever seen, waking up to the sea rolling in just feet from your floor to ceiling window. I could go on and on about how beautiful this apartment is and how the owners have thought of everything to make this a little gem. We very much hope to return again soon.
My wife and I booked this lovely apartment last minute to escape some major house renovation and are so pleased that we did. The apartment is well equipped, very comfortable, with wonderful sea views and made for a very relaxing stay. Just what we needed!! Many thanks to the owners, Margaret and Bill , for their kind help and thanks also to Sandra for the information on the apartment and local amenities. We hope to return soon.

The apt is very modern and very well kept with plenty of space. The floor to ceiling windows in both the living area and the main bedroom give excellent views over the beach. The property manager; Sandra was very welcoming on our 1st day - explained everything really well and was very helpful. The apt is just as described, close to all amenities, perfect for strolls on the beach and rock pooling. A stroll in front of the beach huts is perfectly finished with a pub at the end for a quick drink all over looking the sea. Westward Ho and Horizon View are a lovely place to stay would have no hesititation in recommending the place or the apt to anyone. Thanks very much
We had a great week at westward Ho! The apartment is just perfect, very clean and that view from the balcony is amazing! We will defiantly be coming back to stay!
45 Horizon View is a fantastic apartment. It has a modern feel with a light and airy feel. The balcony (accessible from the master bedroom and living room) opens up to stunning views and is great place to sit, eat or have a drink whilst looking over rock pools and the beach. The apartment was very neat, had lots of amenities and an ideal location. Westward Ho! itself was a great place to stay. Lots to do, great restaurants and a beach which lends itself to beach and water sports. Will definitely try to get back.
Thank you Margaret and Bill fantastic apartment and the views out of this world
Just one complaint we had to come home we could have stayed for two weeks as Arnie would say we will be back.
Thanks again love Val& Allan x
Westward Ho! is a traditional holiday village which has seen significant investment over the last few years. It has a 2 mile long Blue Flag beach, a village green, three small supermarkets and a range of village shops as well as holiday amenities such as crazy golf, go karts, amusement arcades and other children attractions.
Surfing is a popular activity in Westward Ho! with surf centres and shops in the village. For walkers there is the sandy beach and the Southwest costal path passes directly in front of Horizon View. For cyclists, the Tarka Trail runs from Torrington to Barnstaple via Bideford and cycle hire is available at various points. Exploring the rock pools on the beach for crabs and small fish is extremely popular with families.
There is a good range of restaurants, cafes, bars and takeaways within a short walk. These include Morans Thai Restaurant, Tea on the Green (winner of Best North Devon Tea Rooms), Rock Pool Café (which is great for breakfast and lunch), Country Cousins (excellent Sunday lunch) and The Pier House (fantastic sea views). A Hockings ice cream van is normally parked near the village green meaning that a locally made ice cream is close to hand.
Within a 10 to 15 minute drive are popular holiday attractions The Big Sheep, The Milky Way, and Clovelly. Within 30 minutes are RHS Rosemoor Gardens, Dartington Crystal and Barnstaple. Bideford is the nearest town - less than a 10 minute drive.
From Bideford (or Ilfracombe) it is possible to take a day trip to Lundy Island which is three and a half miles long and a half mile wide. It is vehicle free and famous for its sea birds. Great for walking and fantastic views.
For serious shoppers, Atlantic Village is a small outlet centre (including a larger supermarket) only 3 miles away and Barnstaple provides an extensive range of High Street names and individual shops.
If you don't want to drive, a frequent bus service will take you to Bideford and Barnstaple. From Barnstaple you can get a train to Exeter.
In the apartment there is a welcome book providing further details of places to go as well as a basket with maps and leaflets for the main attractions.
