Perfect location for exploring Woodstock, nice touches

  • 5 of 5

My kids and I stayed here for a week in the transition of moving to the UK. The cottage was perfect for us with a queen bed room and another room with two twin beds. The beds were comfortable, clean and nice décor. The owner has done a really nice job decorating and remodeling the kitchen and upstairs bathroom. It has a charming rock wall combined with modern stone accents in the shower. The kids appreciated the sitting room with cable TV and free Wifi. The washing machine and kitchen appliances met all of our needs. The lovely courtyard was an added bonus. The owner also supplied some basic items such as olive oil, spices, wine and beer which was unexpected and appreciated. This cottage is one street away from the historic downtown of Woodstock as well as walking distance to the gates of Blenheim palace. The only downside was no designated parking spot (although we had no problem finding a spot in the free car lot 50 yards away). It does have some road noise too as it is along a popular street and there are lots of tourists. However the noise seemed to be minimal after about 10 pm until 7 am. Just beware that on Tuesday morning the trash truck comes at 6:30 am and it is loud! Overall though the property is roomy, clean, nicely updated and in a great location for walking around Woodstock so I give it a 5 star rating.

Car: not necessary

There are lots of things to do, depending on how active you want to be.

Blenheim Palace and Grounds, a world heritage site is on your doorstep. About 300 metres from the cottage, enter the famous grounds, (The park was landscaped in 1764 by Lancelot 'Capability' Brown. The Palace was built by Sir John Vanbrough from 1722 to 1784.)

Oxford City, The City of Dreaming Spires!. I'd recommend that you take the S3 bus, it stops 30m from the door, into the city. (Oxford has a parking problem!, if you can find a space it's quite expensive!), also, travelling by bus you can relax. Look around the colleges and parks, enjoy a drink by the river, or a meal in one of the many restaurants.

If you want to travel, try,

Bicester Village designer outlet park. Famous designer names as 'outlet' prices! The more you buy, the more you save!. (About 30Km.)

Cotswold Wildlife Park. Spend time amongst the animals, great for children and adults alike!! (about 40Km,)

A gentle drive into the 'Cotswolds'. Visit the small towns and villages such as Black Bourton, Stow on the Wold, and many other interesting places.

London is only100 km away, drive yourself by car, or take the coach or train from Oxford. (an easy option, and the coach is cheaper!)
